[3.5] *The Perfect Storm* Shock Nova / Storm Call Elementalist
The Perfect Storm : Background After playing fire and ice builds, my goal was to create a viable endgame lightning based caster. I've made a Vaal Spark witch with good clearspeed, but I noticed single target was lacking. Arc didn't seem interesting and I had wanted to make a Shock Nova build for a while. However, as with most AoE spells, single target damage is lacking! So I got the idea to use Shock Nova for AoE while having an option for single target dps. I scraped this build due to the state of Self Cast builds after 3.0, with bosses HP being buffed as well as AoE nerfs. However, after collecting a bit of gear in delve, I've decided to bring it back :) Pros and Cons:
Spoiler
Pros: Can comfortably map up until T15/16 Good AOE clearspeed Good single target DPS 6,8k life Can clear close (Shock Nova) and ranged (Storm Call) Constantly inflicts Status Ailments on mobs Full uptime of power charges Cons: Not a 20 million dps BV build Cannot do Elemental Reflect maps A bit squishy vs bosses, does require dodging skills Level 97 Tree:

I generally tend to alternate between DPS and defensive nodes, meaning every few levels I spec into one or the other. If you feel you need more life, grab life nodes and the same for DPS. Gear and Links

With the new shaper mods, you can roll some pretty nice gear. Power charges on crit means we can drop the PCoC gem. We also get a lot of crit from this base, which is extremely important. Staff cost me 3 ex + 6 linking myself. Inpulsas is the way to go. I don't think much needs to be said here. Even after the slight nerf it's still good. As much life and resists as possible. I went for the reduced duration Storm Call enchant to make bossing and single target much nicer. It's definitely a big quality of life. These gloves are absolutely not need, they can be replaced by a rare with life and resists. I went for Aspect of the Spider as a defensive layer to slow down mobs coming at me. Ideally you have gloves with a Curse on Hit Elemental Weakness/Enfeeble to save two gem slots. If not, drop a 4L Lightning Warp and put this CoH setup on Herald of Ice. Again, as much life and res as possible. My ideal enchant is either leech or 120% increased Critical Strike Chance if you haven't Crit Recently. Call of the Brotherhood converts some of our lightning damage to cold. This helps us freeze and chill enemies while providing nice herald of ice shatters as well. If you want to stay full lightning, an opal ring with life and res would be BiS. I went for an opal ring with as much elemental damage as I could. Again, life, resistances are key. This is absolutely not necessary, but definitely a nice to have. A free wrath means about 20% MORE lightning damage. 2% increased crit is nice as well. Budget options would be a rare with stats or a choir of the storm. I went with a stygian vise for the jewel slot. Again, life, resistances. Try to get chaos resistance here since we have so little. A word on life leech(repeated below): we need some sort of mana leech to make this build smooth. The watcher's eye with mana leech wasn't cheap and really is BiS. If you are unable to get this, go for a Berek's Grip / 0,6% damage leeched as life / mana enchant on the boots. Alternatively, use clarity instead of Aspect of the Spider to help with regen. Flasks
Spoiler
After spending quite a few divines, I managed to get all of my resistances to match equally. This makes Wise Oak an amazing flask for the 15%(20% legacy) all penetration and the 10% (the same as +2 to max res) elemental reduction. Jewels
Spoiler
We reach a high life pool by stacking abyss jewels. General stats to look for are life, crit multi, added lightning, critical strike chance. If possible, try to get one with a "corrupted blood cannot be inflicted on you" implicit, it makes mapping much smoother and saves us a flask. A word on the watcher's eye: we need some sort of mana leech to make this build smooth. The watcher's eye with mana leech wasn't cheap and really is BiS. If you are unable to get this, go for a Berek's Grip / 0,6% damage leeched as life / mana enchant on the boots. Alternatively, use clarity instead of Aspect of the Spider to help with regen. Lab

The Perfect Storm! Shock and destroy everything in sight! 3.0 tested and ready! Hi all, this is my first time posting a build, I hope you enjoy! After reading the patch notes, I took the challenge of making this build a life build that is also endgame viable (tested up til T15). I decided to run this build first with beta, and was able to clear up to Act 7 without huge issues, using solely Shock Nova. I died only twice to Avarius the first time playing through. The build managed to make it to 68 and begin general mapping on a 5L staff and a 6L tabula. I wanted to see what this build could do endgame, so I respecced a char in Standard and the results are more than satisfying! So here goes! Stats:

After the changes (read:nerf) of the bandits in 3.0, we have a few options on our hands to allocate skill points. After the changes, we end up with 3 extra points at 90. For the last 3 skill points we are flexible, so good options depending on preferences are: One additional power charge Crackling Speed Jewel Slot % Increased Life For my 90 tree I went for Crackling Speed for simplicities sake. Pledge of Hands is an amazing staff, offering a large chunk of damage as well as a 7L
Call of the Brotherhood offers a nice cold conversion as well as shock chance Choir of the Storm is an AMAZING dps boost, and "relatively" cheap. The rest of the gear is simple: stack as much life and res as possible. I went with Armour/ES based gear to make coloring easy. With Choir of the Storm, the more lightning resistance you have the more dps you get. Well worth it! Until I got my 6L Belly, I spammed until I got some rolls I could live with. There is an easy and cheap way to get 5 off colors, whisper me if you need advice! Jewels:

Instant heal flasks are amazing! I have two, one with bleed removal and one for freeze. The third one is mainly to remove shock from the Vinktars. Vinktars isn't 100% needed, but it is nice as it increases your DPS due to flask effect as well as with Choir of the Storm, on top of providing a very nice leech in case you get into trouble :) Gem Explanation:
Spoiler
Shock Nova, this is our main attraction: we use this to clear and generate power charges. Put it in Pledge of Hands for a nice 7L. With the amount of crit this build has, you will constantly be generating power charges. I have 100% uptime of 4 charges all the time. You can run increased AOE instead of Empower, although I prefer the DPS boost. Storm Call goes on our body armor. This is our single target/ranged spell. If you see something dangerous in front of you, this is the go-to spell. We run Ice Golem for crits and Lightning Golem for cast speed and damage. Herald of Thunder is linked with Curse on Hit Warlord's Mark for Leech and Conductivity for damage penetration. Alternatively you could a different curse instead of Conductivity, such as Temporal Chains if you feel you need more defense. Lightning Warp is our movement skill, very handy for jumping into packs and destroying everything! Used to dodge attacks as well. Very handy! Gems order for 5L / 6L: Shock Nova - Increased Critical Strikes - PCoC - Faster Casting - Increased Critical Damage / Empower Storm Call - Controlled Destruction - Spell Echo - Increased Critical Strikes - Concentrated Effect / Less Duration Tips and tricks:
Spoiler
1) Run around and use Shock Nova until you have 4 charges (which happens pretty quickly). From then on you can decide whether you want to Lightning Warp into packs and Shock Nova them or cast Storm Call from a distance. I usually stick to Shock Nova for packs and Storm Call for things like essence monsters or bosses.
2) Don't be afraid to Lightning Warp away from more difficult rares / uniques, this isn't a tank build and active dodging is required. In my videos you'll see me running around bosses to avoid getting hit. 3) Golems can die so feel free to recast them. 4) If you get hit use instant heal flasks to stay alive. Killing shocked enemies procs Herald of Thunder for cursing. I don't have mana issues and the leech also helps top off HP. Conductivity gives you a nice DPS boost for rares or Elemental Resistance map mods. Videos:

How do you survive with barely any physical reduction? I found my self using granite flask to survive

Hi, I am currently leveling a char with this build, but I can't seem to figure out how you get wrath to have 0% mana reservation.
Sorry if this is a noob question, but I am not that knowledge about poe. Thanks in advance! |

I found the answer, it was the amulet, sorry

how do you not get destroyed by syndicate with this build?
|
|
" I use a basalt flask on the build. You could drop a diamond flask for a granite flask of iron skin. As for syndicate, I would try dropping a decoy totem, they hit hard for a lot of builds. That's what I'm doing atm for yellow maps and it's working well. I do have to run a lot though :) Character limit of 300 characters exceeded Content can not exceed 5 lines in length Last edited by Darksagex#5293 on Dec 10, 2018, 1:25:45 PM
