[3.5]The Chuuni Sword and You: A Guide for Crit Oni-Gorishi Molten Strike
Introduction So you like swords? Have you always wanted to run around with no off-hand pretending this is an anime about a virtual reality game(there is no second half of season 1).Well, you're in luck after years of practicing with a sword and shield you can now go one-handed just make sure not to try and raise your arm to block a sword stroke it might be a bit painful. Really though getting down to business this is a Molten strike Oni-goroshi Build. Its simplistic, solo self found viable for the masochist in all of us, and more importantly fun to play. The Oni-Goroshi is the only real required item. So let's dive into it shall we? The Oni-Goroshi:The sword that never shuts up
Spoiler
The Oni-Goroshi is a 6- link one handed sword. It can be acquired in 2 ways through divination cards or through farming Hillock (the twilight strand boss). I will put in a quick farming guide for hillock at the bottom of this post. You can technically wield it from level 1 onwards and it scales with your level making it an ideal choice for both leveling and high level end game.As to why its "The Sword That Never Shuts Up" is it has special voicelines for almost every boss fight and quest throughout Wraeclast overridding your characters own voice lines. As to why its the Chuunibyou Sword well just listen to those voice lines.
*Chuunibyou:often shortened to chuuni, is an often-derisive Japanese slang meaning "Middle [School] Second [Year] Syndrome", and refers to a kind of behavior that most commonly appears in middle-school students. Generally a chuuni acts like a mature know-it-all and/or thinks they have special powers no one else has. The Oni-Goroshi is Unique (and actually feels unique compared to others) as it doesn't let you wield anything in your off-hand meaning we can't pick up physical damage with shield nodes/dueling wielding nodes. This leads to a couple of interesting passive tree choices. The Oni-Goroshi also scales well with elemental damage because of 'Her Embrace' a onslaught like buff that also gives you 123% of physical damage as extra fire damage for three seconds when you ignite and enemy. This however has a downside because it burns you (not an ignite) for .5% of your life per character level. We off set this burn through slayers overleech. Pro's & Con's + Decent Map Farmer + Kills Bosses quickly and easily + Has both expensive and "Budget" versions + can level easily and safely + ssf viable (though not recommended due to droprate nerfs) - Really likes being high level - its easy to die in high level maps if you're overly aggressive (don't whirl into packs) - The sword never shuts up - has a lot of uniques so resistance can be annoying Scaling Molten Strike and Calculating Damage
Spoiler
Molten Strike is a scaled diffrently than most melee skills as the base hit isnt what we are scaling. Instead we are attempting to scale the magma balls that fly off the skill. The magma balls are scaled through Aoe/Projectile/Attacks and not Melee physical so every straight melee physical node of the tree is worthless to us.However, Scaling physical damage with swords or physical damage with one handed weapons still works so we opt to scale those instead.
According to this thread https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1903956 molten strike balls hit 47% of the time for simplities sake lets say 50% so our damage is calculated as Ball Average Damage x (Number of balls/2) x Attack speed So the dps for my character "MyChuuniSwordWontShutUp" is 52104 x (12/2) x 3.92= 1,225,468 dps though its actually slightly lower because of my 87% hit chance With "good gear" 74230 x (16/2) x 3.92 = 2.3 million dps Though my PoB doesn't have rings or jewels besides wildfire Attention: Some of you of thinking "wait just 2.3 mill" well theres some truth but heres the thing this build isn't going for insane items minus the xoph's blood and +2 molten helm (a +1 is barely a dps diffrence) everything is reasonably obtainable. If you want 8 million paper dps i can give it to you but its not worth it because not many people if anyone is going to have perfect steel rings or jewels so amazing they are worth more than 18 budget builds combined this is a reasonable build at a reasonable price please remember that. Here's your theoretical perfect build(outdated wont be updating) https://pastebin.com/ks1k1qat 8.9 MILLION dps but its just not worth the time effort or 100 mirrors needed for gear like that 1.4 million was enough for uber elder and it wasn't really all that hard 2.9 should be a cake walk and 8.9 is a waste of time. also remember paper dps usually doesn't ever happen its all about how the build feels to you. /EndRant Gear (Delve)

any changes for 3.4?
|

" herald of purity is slight worse than hatred (3k dps or so) but it opens up blasphemys or leaving more mana unreserved so we dont run out spamming (something that sometimes happened if you werent careful) this only applies to builds with xoph's amulet. i just did chayula before the league started with the 3.3 gear no vid was just messing around (had to use an atziri flask for res though) Last edited by OriginsLost#5611 on Sep 7, 2018, 4:21:13 PM

Hey Origins, I found out that tombfist with 1 jewel socket, (murderous eye jewel) + a stygian vise is much better than belt of the deceiver and maligaros, it's more expensive yes, but i went from 5.8khp to 6353hp, damage wise, probably lost a tiny bit, but I dont have that good jewels and a good stygian vyse with ele dmg to attack skills, but if we're going into min max mode, tombfist and stygian vise win by far.
In terms of helmet, rings, boots amulet, they're nice, i gotta improve those as well later but right now they do their job just fine. It's a pretty nice build, you can check my char to see the changes I did(belt and tombfist changes), and if you like it, you could add those changes to the guide. Anyway, thank you for the guide and creating this fun build. I am also thinking about adding a second oni-goroshi with consecrated path for map clearing and keeping the molten strike for bosses. Let me know what you think, have a nice day :) |

" i mention the consecrated path option in my changelog i'll be testing it out today or tomorrow but it should make leveling even easier. as for the stygian vise and tombfist assuming the rest of my character mychunniswordwontshutup's gear then you end up (assuming flat sword phys 30 life 10% crit multi jewels x3) 600 life and 100,000 extra damage while losing 4% crit but our damage was never really a problem so for the cost its not worth it however for maxed out builds assuming best items it might be worth doing.the tombfist plan is better on hardcore but the loss of -30% crit damage taken and 4% crit is also quite hard to take. the damage difference was 1,152,912 vs 1,261,786 and those jewels wouldnt be cheap also im planning on testing more than a few things to make the build better for delving expect a delving section in a week or so Tl;DR tombfist is worth it in a maxed out build Last edited by OriginsLost#5611 on Sep 11, 2018, 2:06:57 PM
