Using flasks when unnecessary

This is directly related to a workaround for the FPS spikes and in some cases desync problems. It's not a solution by any definition but it should hopefully help players survive with less waste.

When you notice within that split second that things are screwy (attacks not working, mysteriously start losing HP or the screen freezes when an FPS spike is happening), something that people do is spam press ALL their potions in case they die. Sometimes the potions aren't necessary and you end up wasting their charges because your health has not fallen or you weren't really in a dangerous situation but the fps spike/desync made it seem like you were.

What I suggest is that if your character already has full Life or full Mana or already using Quicksilver, armour/resistance etc that the game detects this and doesn't use up the charges. It might not seem like much but being able to save 1 use on your flask could be life and death.

I'm just wondering if there are any problems with this idea. All (correct me if I'm wrong) health/mana flask effects end when you have full health/mana anyway so why not save the player wasting charges?

Well, I for one am rather safe than sorry, so I don't mind using the flask charges to not die in case of lag/desync. But that's not directly to your point...

The problem with your suggestion is, while it would make non-dangerous desync moment not as annoying, it would also allow for massive potion spamming and they only activate when needed - so becoming a no-brainer for some characters.

Also for utility flasks this would disable their current way of working: AFAIK when you use two flasks with the same effect, say granite, their effects a queued, the last one used is in effect, then the remaining time from the second flask. (This only works when using two different flasks, though.)

I'm not sure how allowing efficient potion spamming is a bad thing. You do want to use potions (that's what the slots are for) and it doesn't break the game to actually not waste a potion use. Is it because you think it's too easy to use without thinking? There is still a point where you have to think whether or not you want use a potion to heal 10HP or 500HP.

I thought the potions overwrote the previous one. So if I used a 3 second quicksilver and then 1 second later used the quicksilver again then it would reset to 3seconds so a total of 4s duration rather than what you said. I don't think it's queued like 3s+3s = 6s. Either way in normal situations, you still need to think whether you will need that extra healing/mana regen/running/resistance armour or if you're just wasting it anyway.

Having this more efficient potion use just prevents unnecessary waste for desperate situations where it's not entirely your fault.

I am still really hoping that fixes will come into play that will minimise/resolve fps spike/desync problems but until then even that extra 1 flask use would be nice. Once the problems are mostly gone I have no issues about reverting it back if people do feel that strongly against it.

It is though, but only when using 2 potions. using the same potion twice won't queue anything and I believe that should change.

I want my flasks to have a cooldown exactly as long as their duration is!

Details:

Cooldown indicator and enforced cooldown for flasks that don't have special attributes like dispels frozen and chilled / curse immunity.
Visual cooldown indicator only, but let me use it any time I want: flasks that have special attributes that might be needed.

I'm very bad at timing 6 and 8 seconds in my head:

A visual aid would be welcome.

It ain't changing any time soon, at most they'll add some more text clarifying the potions effects end once you've fully recovered.
