Losing Elder influence when completing Shaper influenced maps
This happened to me several times, and it seems it's always when there's a shaper influence near an elder influenced "choke point". Last time it happened to me, I had:
* elder influence on: ** vault ** overgrown ruin ** orchard ** sepulchre ** belfry ** waterways ** torture chamber ** malformation ** dark forest ** plaza ** sunken city ** core * shaper influence on: ** summit ** reef I then completed summit, and as a result, my dark forest (choke point) turned to shaper influence, resulting in losing elder influence in dark forest, sunken, city, core, and the map I had just completed, summit. The same thing occured several times before when I was trying to get elder to spawn on white maps and avoiding as much as possible to get elder influence on yellow maps, having elder influence in the top left quadrant and moving down: I then kept losing ashen wood influence when completing another shaper map south, until I added elder influence on lava chamber. Is it expected that we have to "protect" elder influenced choke points by not removing shaper influence nearby before we can go and complete other shaper influenced maps to extend elder influence? This was annoying when I was trying to push him to white maps, but quite a pain right now, as I already struggle with unlocking/sustaining red maps, and already had to buy some relatively expensive maps to try and extend him in this area to get him to red maps. Just happened again on the other side of the elder influence...
Had waste pool with elder influence and bog with shaper influence (as well as mud geyser and overgrown ruin); completed bog, and ended up with bog having no influence, and waste pool turning to shaper influence... Guess I should have completed overgrown ruin instead, but was hoping to move it towards red, this time from the other side (primordial pool -> summit). |

Same thing happens to me, i cannot figure out how to avoid it.
I just ran a shaper sepulchre, having elder on belfry, waterways and orchard as well as a big area south of that. I ran one sepulchre and it did not turn, then i ran something else and came back to sepulchre, as it had shaper again, but this time around half of my elder influence vanished :( |

Well, seems it's more complicated than just "unprotected" choke points...
Before I completed Belfry (shaper influenced) After I completed Belfry I lost not only elder influence on Orchard which was kinda expected due to previous experiences, but also summit influence, which I really don't get. In the end, I gained one elder influence by completing a shaper map, and lost 2 elder influences elsewhere... It's getting quite annoying to be honest... |

Well, this time it's been more in my favour, but I don't understand the move. Just completing (again) summit brought me to
which means i got both summit and primordial pool back to elder influence. Really, I don't get how it really works... |

I had the same experience in this same area of the map.
I had to re-do some t12-14 maps multiple times because I kept losing them to shaper influence again and again while removing shaper influence in the other areas of the atlas. The stalemate lasted for like 10 maps or so, only then did I manage to have elder's influence grow and spawn the guardians. |

Again, I don't get it...
Before: After Lair: - didn't get elder influence on the Lair I completed - lost the elder influence on the Bog - gained elder influence on Sepulchre instead I hesitated between completing Waste Pool and Lair, guess I should have completed Waste Pool instead? I keep trying, but I really do not see the logic here :/ I'll try Orchard into Waste Pool into Bog again, maybe it'll work? Seems reasonable at first glance, but with my luck it might not be the actual path to expanding this elder influence... Edit: Orchard did as expected, Waste Pool was a mistake, as I lost Primordial Pool taking it, and then when completing Primordial Pool, lost Waste Pool and Orchard :/ Back to the state I was before these 3 maps (except now I have completed Primordial Pool), and thus back to completing Orchard (that was a good move) and then to be determined. Edit: well, this time, after Orchard, I did Bog, and the result was goooood Got not only Bog but also Waste Pool and (Shaped) Vault. Still doesn't help to understand of the thing works though. I have the same thing happen a few times now, so I started to check the atlas once every few packs. Turns out, during the middle of the shaper influenced map, the map became elder influenced - without me killing the boss or even reaching it. I saw this and continue to finish the map by killing the boss. After killing the boss it elder influence receded because, from what I think is happening, the atlas was just informed that I had killed a elder influenced boss, even though I created the map under shaper influence, which makes the atlas remove the elder influence.
TLDR: Started shaper influenced map half way through that shaper influenced map became elder influenced killed boss atlas thought i killed elder influence boss atlas recedes the elder influence This is what i think is happening. This is not in-depth. If someone can verify this, I recommend just checking the atlas periodically throughout the map and exiting when the map you're running becomes elder influenced. " I can confirm it is not that, or at least it is not that simple. Just ran Necropolis and indeed I got the influence swap from shaper to elder before killing the boss (there might be a threshold on monsters left or something), and when I killed the boss, it stayed elder influenced. |
