What are the best sockets for The Surrender Shield?

Is there any way to abuse the mechanics of the surrender?

I just got mine today, and I am still trying different sockets to see which I feel grants the most value.

Right now, I linked melee phys + conc effect + brutality to try to see if I get a significant DPS boost having the shield equipped, but I've also thought about using a curse on hit setup, or cast on melee kill.

Does anyone know if there is a gem combination or way to increase the life gain from blocking?

I'd like to hear any other ideas that I haven't mentioned, see which work and which don't.

According to POB, my current DPS is 100k with sunder, and having the surrender with the damage support gems linked above gives my reckoning 10k damage versus 3k without.

Power charge on crit, increased crit and culling strike is one combo I use.

Yeah you should definitely be using this kind of thing for culling if you're not a slayer.

If you really want the DPS and aren't running curses yet, then cull + CoH vulnerability seems like the best thing (if you were even considering Brutality, then I have to assume you're primarily a phys build and not an elemental conversion build). But if you want more lulz you can cull with the IIR gem and maybe Blind or whatever.

Could also consider using Reckoning to apply Maim, via Maim Support, so you get that more-damage-taken debuff onto enemies reliably. Takes one less slot than CoH Vuln (you can use a Witchfire if you want Vuln), so you can do something like Cull > Maim > IIR. Or, if you're playing Standard and have an IIQ gem, do that instead.

I asked in the past, it does very little damage (460). Forget what i did with it, may have deleted the char.

Think i went curse on hit

Yea, I did some testing and using support gems for reckoning damage is not that great.

I like the idea of maim a lot, and using it with cull + iir would work as well.

I already have cull on my shield charge, so I'm thinking maim + curse on hit + enfeeble

Putting cull in reckoning is not as reliable as shield charge, but if you have no cull then I think putting it in surrender would be a good idea.

I had enfeeble linked to a cwdt, but now I will slot in a blood rage in its spot.

Thanks a lot for the ideas guys!

Edit:

What about increased duration w/ maim support? Would those 2 interact and result in a longer maim duration? Would it be worth it?

The 3rd slot could be life gain on hit.

I'm also wondering if fortify would be a good socket for this shield. I currently have it w/ shield charge, but swapping fortify in would almost be like having permanent fortify right?

Fortify -> Maim -> Increased duration?

Ok, I just tested it and it doesn't look like fortify works with reckoning from surrender, so that idea is out the door.

It's kind of hard to tell if maim is working either.

There is no way for me to see if a visual debuff is on the monster, and after running around for a while i have yet to see a single monster running slower from maim.

Possibly a bug? Well, if reckoning doesn't work with fortify, I'm now questioning the interactions with other support gems as well.
