  • Very good clear speed & face tanking with our Whirling Blades + Fortify combo
  • Immortal on maps due to 20 Spectral Wolf meat shields up at all times
  • Works well with 5L
  • 100% Instant life leech
  • Almost no targets resist our attack damage
  • 50%+ Physical Damage mitigation
  • Easy to gear, our tree is loaded with All Elemental Resistance nodes
  • Cheap non meta uniques
  • Fully geared with 70c
  • Witch

Disclaimer: Apparently prices on the Scourge claw have increased a lot, so any prices I talk about & suggest in this guide may not be up to date to whatever league you are currently playing. At the time of me posting this build Scourge was down to 1 Alch.

Introduction/Build Mechanics
There's some important mechanics going on that you should be aware of before playing this build. The most important being our ascendancy which is Necromancer. Necromancer gives us Mistress of Sacrifice which allows us to use Flesh Offering on ourselves. We also pick up Spirit Eater which gives us some crazy increased damage and attack speed.

Keep in mind that because we are using The Scourge as our weapons. The "Minions deal % increased Damage" nodes we are taking in our Necromancer ascendancy, are directly increasing our damage as well.

It's also crucial for us to understand what makes physical damage king, over what seems to be the meta elemental damage.

Going completely elemental damage has it's downsides, you're forced into pretty much relying on elemental penetration to deal damage, because 95% of mobs have elemental resistances built in, this means while you end up with high numbers for DPS, it feels "meh" when you're actually playing, that's because a huge chunk of your damage is getting resisted. Also keep in mind that map bosses have a base 30% elemental resistance, while Shaper & Guardians have a base 40% elemental resistance.

Physical damage on the other hand, while it does get reduced by mobs armour rating, almost all mobs in the game have a laughable amount of armour. This means you might see lower tooltip numbers on a physical based character, but the effective damage is more than likely much higher.

The final reason why physical damage is so strong, flasks. Flasks like Atziri's Promise & Sin's Rebirth gives us added Chaos damage based on our physical damage. So what makes Chaos damage so strong? It too, is hardly resisted.

In conclusion, this means that the majority of our overall damage is very rarely resisted, by any mob in the game. This is how you will melt maps & bosses so easily.

Items

Note: The only required item(s) are The Scourge x2, the body armour can be a rare 5L or 6L and later upgraded to The Perfect Form once you gain currency. Just look for high life & resistances on the rare chest.

The Scourge x2

This is the bread & butter of the build. These things are extremely powerful in terms of offense & defense. They are as cheap as 1 chaos and for what they provide, nothing compares. It also let's us take advantage of the Necromancer ascendancy "increased Minion Damage" nodes.

The Perfect Form

This is an amazing defensive piece of body armour. It lets us use Arctic Armour without reserving any mana, it gives us Phase Acrobatics for free & increases our Evasion rating through "Evasion Rating is increased by Uncapped Cold Resistance". We then convert our evasion rating to armour through Iron Reflexes. This gives us anywhere from around 50-65%+ physical damage mitigation, 30% Chance to dodge spell damage & 12% less fire damage taken all from this body armour.

PoE Trade Link

If you can't afford The Perfect Form, the next best choice is rare body armour with life and resistances. These are as cheap as 4-10c.

PoE Trade Link
______________________________________________________________________

Helmets

A simple & safe choice is just running a rare helmet with high life, and resistances.

PoE Trade Link

If feel you are tanky enough, and want to boost your damage, a Rat's Nest will do the trick.

PoE Trade Link
______________________________________________________________________

Rings

Your go-to rings should be x2 Steel Rings with Physical Damage to Attacks, Life, Accuracy, Lightning Damage to Attacks, and then possibly Intelligence or Strength (this build can potentially become tight on Intelligence and Strength until around level 85~), or missing Resistances you need to fill in. It is possible to ignore accuracy on the rings, especially if you are already around 90% chance to hit which is optimal.

PoE Trade Link

Amulet

Preferably an Onyx Amulet with Physical Damage to Attacks, Life, Accuracy, Critical Strike Multiplier, missing stats & resistances, and Lightning Damage to Attacks is also very nice.

PoE Trade Link
______________________________________________________________________

Gloves

Preferably here you'll be looking for Gripped Gloves for the Increased Projectile Damage implicit mod. Again, prioritizing high life, resistances, attack speed, and flat physical damage if possible.

______________________________________________________________________

Belt

Here you can get away with a Leather Belt, however a Rustic Sash is going to be best in slot. High life rolls, resistances, movement speed or Increased Elemental Damage with Attack Skills is icing on the cake.

PoE Trade Link
______________________________________________________________________

Boots

For boots, we'll be looking for any base, 25-30% Movement Speed, Life & Resistances.

PoE Trade Link
______________________________________________________________________

Flasks

Atziri's Promise is very strong, granting us 15-20% of our total Physical Damage as extra Chaos Damage during the flask effect. Also 2% of that Chaos Damage is leeched as life, so it's very good, and cheap. These are around 1-3c and definitely recommended.

PoE Trade Link

Sin's Rebirth is great, it gives us Evasion, Smoke Cloud & Unholy Might for another 30%
of our total Physical Damage as extra Chaos Damage. This flask is expensive, around 4 Exalts.

PoE Trade Link

If you can't afford a Sin's Rebirth, the next best thing is a Silver Flask, this grants us Onslaught which is also extremely powerful. Remember to roll the flask to your desired needs.

PoE Trade Link

Taste of Hate is personal preference, it gives us 20% of our Physical Damage as extra Cold Damage which is nice, and it also takes 20% of Physical Damage that we receive, and converts it into Cold Damage which is very helpful vs Physical Damage based bosses such as Minotaur.

PoE Trade Link

The last two flasks are up to you. I recommend a Quicksilver flask to help zoom around maps a bit easier, especially in tight areas where Whirling Blades can become annoying. And a Basalt Flask for even more Physical Damage mitigation.

Note: Keep in mind you will want to roll your non-unique flasks to remove certain dangerous ailments, such as the "of Staunching" mod that removes Bleeding on Use. And the "of Heat" mod that removes Freeze & Chill ailments. The remaining prefix mods are up to you. I prefer the "Chemist's" mod to reduce charges used when we pop our flasks.

Gems and Links
Note: In most cases 20 quality gems will always slightly increase something, as will level 21 gems. You should slowly start working towards getting your main 6L gems 20/21 whenever possible.

Note: When you see "(20/1)" for example, the 20 is the recommended quality of the gem, and 1 is the recommended level.

Note: Use Greater Multiple Projectiles for clearing maps, and switch it out for Slower Projectiles vs bosses.

Note: If you're running a 5L, drop Maim.

  • 3L Weapon 1 ► Whirling Blades (20/1) - Faster Attacks (20/20) - Fortify (20/1)
  • 3L Weapon 2 ► Cast When Damage Taken (0/1) - Immortal Call (0/3) - Arctic Armour (20/20)
  • 4L Gloves ► Enhance Support (0/3) - Vaal Haste (0/20) - Flesh Offering (20/20) - Increased Duration (20/20)
  • 4L Helmet ► Hatred (0/20) - Summon Ice Golem (20/20) - Herald of Ash (20/20) - Enlighten (0/3)
  • 4L Boots ► Cast When Damage Taken (0/1) - Increased Duration (20/20) - Flesh Offering (20/8) - Desecrate (0/7)
  • 6L ► Spectral Throw (20/20) - Maim Support (20/20) - Physical Projectile Attack Damage (20/20) - Increased Critical Strikes (20/20) - Damage on Full Life (20/20) - Greater Multiple Projectiles (20/20) / Slower Projectiles (20/20)

Preferred Jewel Rolls

Prefixes
  • Physical Damage 14-16%
  • Maximum Life 5-7%
  • Physical Weapon Damage while Dual Wielding 12-14%
  • Physical Weapon Damage with One Handed Melee Weapons 12-14%
  • Attack Speed While Dual Wielding 4-6%
  • Attack Speed with One Handed Melee Weapons 4-6%
  • Critical Strike Multiplier with One Handed Melee Weapons 15-18%
  • Global Critical Strike Multiplier 15-18%

Suffixes
  • Projectile Damage 10-12%
  • Damage 8-10%
  • Global Critical Strike Multiplier 9-12%
  • Attack Speed 3-5%
  • Increased Attack and Cast Speed 2-4%

Enchantments

Helmet Enchantments

  • 20-30% reduced Spectral Throw Projectile Deceleration. Overall this enchant is king. This allows our Spectral Throw to linger at peak range longer allowing more hits per attack, it makes your Spectral Throw travel further, and makes your projectiles "last" longer per attack.
  • 20-30% increased Spectral Throw Projectile Speed. This enchant is middle of the road for us. Projectile Speed makes our Spectral Throw travel further and speeds up the projectiles. It's okay for general map clearing, but for bosses you're losing out on a lot of damage compared to the deceleration enchant.
  • 25-40% increased Spectral Throw Damage. The worst enchant for Spectral Throw, this ends up only being around a 3.5% damage increase.

Boot Enchantments

  • 8-16% increased Attack and Cast Speed if you've Killed Recently. My personal favorite boot enchant. High attack speed makes builds feel a lot more fluid to me personally.
  • Regenerate 1-2% of Life and Mana per second if you were Hit Recently. This enchant could be pretty good as well. I'm personally split even between the two at this time.

Glove Enchantments

Glove enchants are extremely minor overall, all other stats should be prioritized before a glove enchant.

  • Decree of Fury "fires a piercing projectile based on your weapon, converting some physical damage to fire. The projectiles form an arc in front of you. Attack with this Skill when you Hit Fires 10 Projectiles in a spiral 100% Chance of Projectiles Piercing". My personal favorite, especially for this build.

Pantheon
  • Soul of Lunaris
  • Soul of Tukohama for physical damage bosses.
  • Soul of Yugul for general map clearing.

Additional Information
  • Kill a pack of mobs, use Flesh Offering, run to the next pack, rinse & repeat.
  • Use Greater Multiple Projectiles for clearing maps, and switch it out for Slower Projectiles vs bosses.

Going to be filling out information here tomorrow when I wake up. It's late and I need sleep. Just wanted to get the basic guide filled out & posted.

Interesting build, might give it a spin. Did you try Guardians/Shaper with your current setup?

Honestly haven't yet, once I finish this guide I'll probably run them tonight and record the videos. I don't see why the build couldn't do all bosses in the game. The defense is there, the damage is definitely there, so yeah, we'll see in a bit. I'm almost done writing for the night anyways. :P

Thanks for your interest in the build.

Well, pretty much everything I was about to ask was fixed in this update :P

Two notes:

Without a corpse generating spell, you won't be able to use flesh offering in longer boss fights. Considering the damage shown in the T15 map video, this doesn't seem to be a problem against normal bosses though.

The build seems a little low in terms of HP. This could probably be fixed by investing the last points in more sockets, Thick Skin and some lesser 5% life nodes?
