Help please. Gems over level 20 with +2 skill item give no bonus stats?

I was wondering.

If i put my level 20 skill gem in a +2 skill item will it get any benefit?
Cause on the wiki the max level it shows it level 20.

I am asking if the gem will actually give more stats out, e.g more DPS, or more life for minions, etc.

If it shows 22 its irrelevant.

Yes, the lvl 20 gem will be like lvl 22 with the "2+ lvl up skill gem" affix.

The max level of gems is 20, but this can be circumnavigated by the + stats on gear.

So what happens when it gets above 20? afaik there aren't any stats that go above that, so even if it says 22, it's still doing the same thing it did at 20, no?
But will it give extra stats??
Like more dps or life for minions, more area of affect etc.

Yes, it will. You just can't actually LEVEL the gem beyond level 20.

If you played Diablo 2, it's like how you could only put 20 points into a particular skill, but if you have charms or modifiers on items that boosted all your skills or something to that effect you have have skills with EFFECTIVE levels above 20; if you removed the gear giving you the boosts you would be back to level 20 skills again.

Have you actualy tried it, or are you just assuming that it works the same way as it did in D2?

The thing is, stats on most gems don't go up by the same amount with each level. If stats for gems above level 20 haven't been programmed, then the gem will give the same stats at 22 as it did at 20.

I'd be interested to know for sure one way or the other. If the stats continue to rise past 20, I'd also really like to know what they are for various gems.
If you go back and look at OB patch notes GGG said it DOES infact make the skill/support gems act as if they where +1-2 levels over the current level, including level 20 gems. No, I havent tried it but I assume GGG knows what they did with it.

General Gem Balance:
The experience curve has been smoothed for gems that start at character level 24 or 31.
High level gems are now balanced to have greater effect than before.
Attack gem damage bonuses no longer taper off towards higher levels but now continue to increase at the same rate.
Reduced the life progression of totems. The bonus for totem life per point of quality has been decreased from 3% to 1.5%.
Skill and support gems now have balance values that go higher than level 20, so that if you get a gem at max level (which is still 20) but have items that increase the gem level, then the skill is more powerful
.

If I have two fish, and you have three fish, how many fish do we have?
None. These are MY fish.

Nice. So does anyone have a list of the stats for gems above level 20? Would be nice to know if it's a worthwhile boost or not.
