Game loads with pixelization graphics. Looks 8 bit

I just updated the client last night for 3.0 and I try to log in today and it wouldn't let my character connect. After trying to connect I finally get in and all of the graphics are pixilated. It's very blurry and it disconnects me after a few minutes. And then if I try to log back in it gives cuts to the load screen and then just pushes me back to character select. Changing the resolution in game didn't do anything either. And when I tried to change the graphics quality it sent a bunch of pop up windows error messages that were never ending. And had to use task manager to close PoE. Please help thanks.

In 3.0 GGG added a new feature called Dynamic Resolution which will attempt to prevent your FPS dropping by lowering your resolution temporarily. As it's a new feature it's possible that it has some bugs which need to be worked out - try disabling it to see if it helps.

This can be turned off in-game by doing the following;
  • Press the Esc key to open the menu.
  • Click on Options.
  • Untick "Dynamic Resolution.
  • Click Save, then Close.

You mentioned having problems adjusting your in-game settings. It's possible to change them while the game client isn't opening by editing a .ini file used by the game client.

Here's how you can do that;
  • Make sure the game client isn't open.
  • Go to your Documents folder.
  • Enter your My Games folder.
  • Enter your Path of Exile folder.
  • Open production_Config.ini with a program. *
  • Look for the [DISPLAY] section.
  • Set "use_dynamic_resolution" to "false".
  • Save the file, then close it.

*
Notepad is technically capable of opening the file, however I tested it a moment ago and it wasn't correctly putting each entry on a different line, so it's a bit of a mess. A lot of folks recommend Notepad++. Personally I use Brackets. Use whichever program you prefer.

If turning off Dynamic Resolution helps significantly, would you mind posting a bug report to help bring it to GGG's attention? It might mean other folks don't run into the trouble you had. :)
