D3D Error On Launching PoE [Solved]
|
Hi, I've recently started getting a black screen and this error message when launching the client and I'm not sure what to do:
"Failed to get device caps": In source code file ...\Device\D3D9\DeviceD3D9.cpp at line 42, Processing file: Failed to get device caps Error: D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE Description: Not available Message:" OS: Windows 7 64-bit GPU: Radeon R9 280 CPU: Intel 15 4460 DirectX 11 This error first occurred today after updating my graphics card driver. So far I've tried reinstalling poe, doing a clean reinstall of my graphics drivers and reinstalling direct x. Only fix I've found is to revert to an earlier graphics driver, but I'd rather not have to deal with this problem in the future. Any solutions or help on troubleshooting this issue would be appreciated. Thank you. Edit: Working now, xmx's suggestion to enable gpu scaling in amd settings fixed it. I ran into this awhile back when updating my video driver and had to roll back as well.
All was good until I rebuilt my system and used a newer driver. Then I got the issue of the process launching but the game wouldn't. I could see the process in task manager, but no game on screen. So I updated the driver one level and started getting the D3DERR issue. I updated it again and still got the issue. I searched for the "failed to get device caps" issue, but nothing I found would help. Then I started looking up the D3DERR and found an obscure article that managed to help me. It recommended deleting the DirectX key in the registry and then reinstalling DirectX. In my case, I deleted the key, rebooted, then ran DxDiag and everything checked out okay there. Then the game launched perfectly. Now to be fair, I had previously ran pack check, reinstalled the game from the download, reinstalled DirectX from the redist folder under the main PoE folder, and renamed my PoE folder under Documents->My Games. So some of that may have helped as well. The registry key I deleted was HKEY-LocalMachine-Microsoft-Software-DirectX. If you decide to try it, let me know if it works for you. |

This problem seems to have been fixed with Crimson 17.6.1.
GPU scaling setting is not necessary anymore. |
