PoE 2 servers are restarting in: .
They should be back up in approximately .Am i the only one finding that " Uncapped" resistances is used wrongly by GGG?
|
In all the ARPG i've played Uncapped resist meant the difference between actual resistance and the resistance cap And what GGG define by uncapped is actually overcapped resistances GGG is so aware they are not using the wrong term that they feel the need to explain it on unique items using it lol Lets use simple logic: Unfinished means "not yet finished", therefor its between point 0 and finish/completion if it was beyond Finish point it would be Finish... therefor it couldnt be described as Unfinished the cap being the "Finish" of resistances, so Uncapped means something between 0 and cap Another good example of the confusion is GGG themself using a similar term but not the same way... OVERKILL which refers to total excess damage of the killing hit Would it just be easier to have: -Overcapped: difference between cap and total resist that is beyond cap -Uncapped: difference between cap and total resist that is lower than cap -Total: the total of a resistance not limited by a cap ZiggyD is the Labyrinth of streamers, some like it, some dont, but GGG will make sure to push it down ur throat to make you like it Last edited by Sexcalibure#7575 on Mar 29, 2017, 5:37:18 PM Last bumped on Mar 30, 2017, 7:28:12 AM

That's what was confusing me the first time it came in.

" So uncapped means "not capped", meaning whatever you would have if there wasn't a cap. Yes, this is correct. " Overkill is a different mechanic, and thus uses a different term. I don't know why that would be confusing? Last edited by Vipermagi#0984 on Mar 29, 2017, 5:35:23 PM

If you look at your character sheet under defenses you have your resistance and another in brackets. one capped, the other uncapped. The wording is very precise.
"Into the Labyrinth!
left step, right step, step step, left left. Into the Labyrinth!" |
|
"whats confusing is that there has been term in RPG games for years and GGG decided to use those terms and use the opposite definitions for them ZiggyD is the Labyrinth of streamers, some like it, some dont, but GGG will make sure to push it down ur throat to make you like it

The only definition of "uncapped" I have ever seen is "without a cap", which is congruent with GGG's usage of the word. There's multiple ways to interpret the term "uncapped", I'll give you that, but GGG is not wrong in how they use it.
"Overkill" means "more damage than is necessary to kill". That is exactly the defition that GGG uses: it only counts the amount of damage that is in excess. Decidedly not 'the exact opposite defition'. :/ |

whoa wtf!!!!! thats what it means!!! THE FUCK!!!???
i thought the flask was total dogshit cause why do i want less than capped resists? the wording is wrong as fuck... SHOULDNT IT BE "TOTAL RESISTANCE"!!!! WTF!!! if i have 75% (180%) cold resist .. for example iam AT CAPACITY (OVER-CAPACITY ACTUALLY) .. therefore, I AM NOT in a status of "uncapped" un-capped = un-capacitied aka NOT AT CAPACITY , which sure, if iam over capacity iam not "at capacity" .. however!! .. iam AT CAPACITY, AND THEN SOME therefore iam AT CAPACITY LEARN ENGLISH GGG!!! To be fair, I get a sense that a lot of Path of Exile players are not native English speakers, so they have less of an instinct about the nuanced meanings of prefixes.
Another devil's advocate point here - the prefix "a-" often has two completely contradictory meanings. But to play devil's advocate against devil's advocate (angel's advocate?) - I believe Vipermagi said he is not a native English speaker either, and yet he grasps this stuff just fine. Then again though, he's pretty much a genius, and types in perfect English on these forums. Need game info?
