How do I change Realm / Server?

I have ping / lag problems all the time and wanted to try another server. I am on Frankfurt Server as it is the nearest one, but Paris also has a low ping 40 ms. I choose Paris in login screen and when I enter my hideout or a map I´m in Frankfurt again ?!?

How can I change the server to test the connection / routing from my ISP?

If you'd like to test the routing of your ISP I'd recommend using WinMTR so that you can see information on your latency (and any packet loss) as your traffic travels through your ISP's network, the backbone and into the network of GGG's ISP. You can find a guide here.

When you choose a gateway, the game will attempt to have your instances created there. If there's too many people connecting to a single gateway, this might not always be possible.

I did, and this routing might be the problem.....but what can I do? I cant change my route to Frankfurt POE Server. I can contact my ISP but thats all...if they dont do anything....they say everything works fine....
The only thing I can do is change my ISP or change the POE Server. First is possible when my contract ends...second doesnt work for Paris.....Milan works....I chose Milan and I can now play on Milan Server....but I wanted to try Amsterdam, Paris or London, they are quite closer and have better ping. So can I force a Server connection?

Your ISP is the party with the most influence over your routing. You can try changing things by using a VPN, however those tend not to be free (and can cause other problems). I'd tend not to recommend paying for an imperfect solution which might cause lag spikes, etc.

There's lots of very different ISPs all over the world, but one thing most seem to have in common is a bunch of untrained, minimum wage people manning the phones. They'll be able to ping your modem and run a few other tests - if those seem okay, they won't see a problem. As far as they'll be concerned "the internet works" and they can't help you. Or, more accurately, that you have a problem. You could say that you've some diagnostic data you need to show to Tier II support, but whether they'll escalate your call to someone who has a clue is a coin flip.

You mention quite a few realms there - are you saying your instances get bounced back to Frankfurt no matter which gateway you select? That sounds very odd, and like there might be a bug somewhere. Have you been restarting your client after changing realm?

I would be curious to see the WinMTR. It's possible it's a NetworkLayer issue affecting only some of their infrastructure - in that case GGG staff should be able to discuss it with them.

One image shows my Necromancer short after boss fight. I have constant high fps but my ping is a wave and due to lockstep mode it stutters, hangs and then runs like hell for a sec...every time I die I see a spike to 1000 ms and a 1 sec freeze, then I see me dying. Seems like Server wont answer my client.

This 2 images are the same Server, same time, directly after I made the screenshot I switched char to test. So it seems to be a problem that only occurs when in high maps fighting....with my new char in normal difficulty I have no problems, but with my necro with 8 auras and 30 minions, it runs like crap.

Doing WinMTR without the load of clearing a high map with 30 minions and vaal haste, it shows no problems....

so what would you suggest me to do? play a char without minions?


switching server to milan worked.....but same ping problems...could be same or similar route, could be a poe server problem with my build...dont know...

Changing ISP is a bit drastic (especially if it ends up not helping).

Maybe poke support@grindinggear.com to see what they think?

I don't think you got an explanation of why your hideout was not on the gateway you selected. You have to wait for a new instance of your hideout for it to take effect. Instances already on one server aren't moved when you use another server. Wait for your hideout to expire or create a new one.

its not just the hideout....sometimes all maps and areas i join are created in Frankfurt...

But now choosing Milan server it works and I play on a different server than Frankfurt...but as you can see in the pics above...my ping is smooth sitting in my hideout, but fighting a boss it gets screwed up....right, there is more traffic to transfer, but am I the only one that has this problems?
look at the ping spikes in the map and the ping in the hideout....wtf is my problem?
