[2.5 BSC Raider] Oro's Ele Blade Flicker (All Guardians Down)
2.5 Breach SC Elemental Blade Flicker
(Placeholder for a sick pic) Remember that time Chris talked about kind of zoning out while playing and watching/doing something else? This is the build he was talking about. Stupid fast, somuch damage and options out the badonkadonk; this build is for the player who likes to blow up an entire map without missing a single second of the new Gilmore Girls episode. Pros +Insane clear speed +Built-in culling +High defense (w/options) +Run nearly all map mods (Everything but "Cannot Leech" so far) +Viable for all Guardians +Massive sustain +Probably viable for Shaper but I suck +No skill required, just mindless clicking Cons -Probably not HC viable (feel free to try and let me know) -Gear-dependent/costly -Vertigo/Motion sickness abound -Not efficient if you like to check all items (Never know where you'll end up, backtracking required) -Possibly socket-intensive or maybe I'm just an idiot -Not sure how it performs on low-end PCs
Overview
Hi, I'm Teebus and I suck at Path of Exile. But like all players, skilled or otherwise, I like to pretend I'm really good. This is the build that lets me do that.
The two primary skills for this build are Flicker Strike and Blade Flurry. As much as I love Flicker Strike, it's just not a viable option for single-target, even with the buffs to the Raider (unless it is, please help). So yes, we submit to the meta to find our face-melting boss destroyer, Blade Flurry. But that doesn't mean we can't be a little off-meta, which we achieve by denying the urge to poison everything and Make Bino's Great Again, instead opting for the age-old elemental southpaw-style build, with attack speed so high you'll say, "wow that's fast." Of course Blade Flurry is only usable with one-handed weapons, so that means weapon swapping. If you leave now I'd understand, the idea almost made me abandon the build. If you want to hear me out though, here's my experience: The weapon swap/dual-attack style has been so much fun and really opened the build up to numerous possibilities. While I've toyed with some other skills out there for single-target, I can't deny just how good Blade Flurry is at doing literally everything. Roll a map with "90% chance for monsters to avoid status ailments"? Just flurry those blades until you've got a health supply of Frenzy charges and let the killing resupply you from there. You can always just use Blade Flurry and roll through maps that way of course, but not once have I been able to match the clear speed of Flicker. These two were made for each other. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
Passive Trees
I might have mentioned this already but I suck at this game so if you see any clear and obvious improvements to the planned tree please point them out. Ignore mistakes in the current tree, I reiterate the suck part. I'd encourage playing around with it a bit. I dropped some points into Crit nodes, got myself a decent Diamond flask and dropped Increased Critical Strikes into the Flicker setup and the difference is amazing. All the icesplosions with Hearld of Ice. I'll throw up some leveling trees later. For now, just go for early defensive options and some cheap leveling uniques (Ewar's is amazing and you will love it). Early leech will feel good too.
Bandits
This is in the link above but if you can't/didn't see it:
Oak (Life) Kraityn (Attack speed) Kraityn (Dat sweet, sweet Frenzy charge) ___________________________________________________________________________________________
Current Gear
I'll break this one down a bit.
Weapons
Oro's is key to Flicker Strike, giving us insane amounts of eDPS as well as easy Frenzy charges. Look for a high AS as your main focus, followed of course by the base damage. BiS for elemental southpaw is Doryani's with up to 132% increased elemental damage, .2% leech and up to 40% global crit chance. Your main-hand should be a high AS/eDPS thrusting sword. This one is insanely good, but you can get away with any good thrusting sword. Like with Oro's you'll want to grab something with high APS, but if you're on a budget you'll want to find a balance. If you can't afford higher APS, that's alright, a decent/crafted roll will work just fine so long as the ele damage mods are there.
Armor Slots
First note: There are two pairs of gloves. I use them as a gem swap (we'll talk about that later). Pretty basic evasion gear. Look for high EV body/head, life and res rolls etc. My helmet already had a pretty high EV roll so I opted for Haku's ele damage mod instead. Gloves are flexible as usual; you can go for high defense with evasion rolls, or get a bit of extra oomph in your attacks with ele damage to attacks or attack speed. Boots are almost always Atziri's Step. The only thing I would swap for might be Darkray Vectors if you're going up against Chimera or someone attack-based, and even then most enemies will use spells and you'll want that extra dodge chance. I've considered Queen of the Forest but I don't think I have enough evasion nor do I want to try for it, and I've also considered Hyrri's Ire which would be a nice offensive and defensive piece.
Jewelry
A lot of your damage is going to come from jewelry, as well as your defenses, so gearing can get hard here. I went for a couple of Breach rings because they were cheap and gave me what I needed. A perfect ring/amulet would be high tri res-life-ele weapon damage-+ele damage to attacks. If I could handle my resistances through other gear, I'd probably go for strength/intelligence to handle gear reqs and/or attack speed. Oh and you should have a belt. Life, res, weapon ele.
Flasks
I have a hard-on for Overflowing Chalice, I'll suck that flask down so hard. Not really anything mandatory here, except maybe a Diamond flask if you choose the crit route. Life flasks are overrated.
Jewel
Static Electricity
You can look for some other cool rares for attack speed or melee damage and the like. I've tried a few and they don't seem to give the same damage as this one. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
Gem Setup
Flicker Strike: Flicker - WED - Multistrike - Faster Attacks - Melee Splash - Increased Crits
You could run Fire Pen in place of Increased Crits if you're opting out of the crit path. You could also replace Faster Attacks for a flat damage increase like Added Cold/Added Lightning, but in testing it's not as fun. Gotta go fast. Multistrike, Melee Splash and WED are core. Blade Flurry: BF - WED - Added Cold - Elemental Focus - Faster Attacks - Culling Strike Again, options. I've played around with a few, and I still want to test swapping out Culling Strike for Added Lightning, but this setup is pretty good. Helm: Increased Duration - Vaal Grace - Vaal Grace - Grace Up to 20 seconds of 75% attack and spell dodge with Vaal Grace is nice. Also needed a place to put Grace. Boots: Herald of Ice - Herald of Thunder - Curse on Hit - Elemental Weakness With Vinktar's being up 24/7 shocking things is natural. I use Elemental Weakness mostly for bosses that spawn adds, you likely won't notice it much with normal mobs, not with all the killin' you'll be doin'. Other options include Assasin's Mark for power charges, Warlord's Mark for Endurance Charges, or idk other curses? Gloves 1: CWDT - IC - Temp Chains - Warchief ermahgerd suh many opshins. Throw a golem in if you don't want to keep casting Warchief or used Increased Duration for the extra .2 seconds on IC. Or other stuff I dunno I'm not a scientist. Gloves 2: Vaal Cyclone - Inc. AoE - WED - Faster Attacks This is for Breaches mostly. Use this while clearing and wipe Breaches up like the tears you're crying for having read this far. Movement skills are limited to the one-handed weapons, using Whirling Blades/Leap Slam + Faster Attacks and Fortify ___________________________________________________________________________________________
Stats
Damage
Comparison of unbuffed (minus Heralds) vs. buffed damage:
Flicker (Heralds, no flasks, no charges, no totem, no onslaught) Flicker (Heralds, flasks, charges, totem, onslaught) BF (Heralds, no flasks, no charges, no totem, no onslaught) BF (Heralds, flasks, charges, totem, onslaught)
Important Note About Southpaw and BF Damage
Estimate of actual values for Blade Flurry:
Unbuffed: 6601 Buffed: 14118
Explanation and calculations
Even though Doryani's Catalyst isn't being used in Blade Flurry, the tooltip is still accounting for its damage values and displaying them in the tooltip. It makes it very difficult to calculate the actual value of each hit, but here's what I did:
Remove Doryani's and Helmet (enchant/weapon ele), unspec Forces of Nature (20% ele weapon dmg) Record BF damage (4812) Summon Warchief (alter values to verify results) Record BF Damage (5687) Spec into Forces of Nature Record BF damage (5018) Summon Warchief Record BF Damage (5931) Now divide the later two values by their former counterparts, which equals ~1.043. This means that a 20% increase gives me a 4.3% boost to damage. Now divide 132 (Doryani's ele value) by 20 (Forces of Nature value) and you get 6.6, which you can multiply by 4.3 to tell you how much your base damage will be increased: 28.38%. Now equip Doryani's and repeat. No need to gather values for point/no point, just warchief to check your values. No warchief (5221) Warchief (6171) Once again, divide the later values by the former (Forces of Nature, no Doryani's): 1.032. That means by equipping Doryani's, your damage appears to increase by 3.2%. So we take our two values (3.2% and 28.38%) and we can get a rough value of actual damage like so: Take damage from the tooltip, multiply by 0.968 to remove Doryani's influence on Avg Damage, then multiply by 1.2838 to account for the elemental damage provided by Doryani's, and this will provide you with a rough estimate of your actual damage. So what we get is: Unbuffed: 1.2838 * 5312 * 0.968 = 6601 Avg. Damage Buffed: 1.2838 * 11361 * 0.968 = 14118 Avg. Damage Also I didn't write any of this some smart guy did or something. The warchief is the odd player here. You're not going to be casting it when you're clearing, but against bosses who have adds you can kill for onslaught, that's the DPS you'd have.
Defense
Aura only Flasks, charges, Vaal Grace ___________________________________________________________________________________________

Cool build, I like it!
I started this league trying the Hegemony Era Flicker Raider (another build in this section) and found it ultimately underwhelming. My DPS was insane but the Raider's Way of the Poacher wasn't enough to sustain flicker reliably, even with Blood Rage. Blue packs and bosses were especially annoying. Switched out to Oro Flicker and the flicker sustain is just so much nicer. Question for you: What do you think about going for Avatar of Veil instead of Slaughter? I find Oro's to be more the sufficient to sustain max frenzy, and the 40% elemental + status immunity seems too much to ignore. The added dodge is a nice bonus too. Also, where are you putting the Static Electricity gem? I tried next to Heartseeker but it seems like a good Jewel with +Fire Damage and +Melee Damage (plus life too or whatever else) easily beats it out. |
|
" Avatar of the Veil was really appealing, but ultimately I found it more enjoyable sustaining power charges against bosses with Blade Flurry. Give it a try and let me know how it feels. Also that's right where I put static electricity. Since the build utilizes two different attacks (Flicker and Blade Flurry) it's a little bit trickier getting a jewel that's beneficial to both. I've still got my eye out for something to come along with Damage + Melee Damage + defense that's affordable, but SE's cheap and good for now. |

So apparently uploading videos is hard. I've left it on overnight twice and I'm at 66%. Rip.

I'm probably missing something, but where does your accuracy come from? Do you account for missing attacks in your DPS calculations? Also, do you think there's any way to get the hp up to five or six thousand without sacrificing too much DPS? 4k feels very low to me. Otherwise, neat guide and I look forward to seeing some videos.

Of the Oro Flicker builds I've seen, I like this one the best. A few questions:
Any chance for a leveling guide leading up to Oro's? I'm assuming you ran BF in 2.5 b/c OP, but the nerf in 2.6 makes me wonder if you used something else or have other thoughts. Also would be great to know for 2.6 as alternatives to BF for the chest/dual-1h. What flask were you running pre-Vinktar? It's quite expensive so I'm wondering about intermediate options. I assume Atziri's Promise isn't bad? How do you avoid Chayula? Doesn't stun = dead? What does your leveling tree look like at 67? Last edited by ProfP#3351 on Feb 26, 2017, 12:40:22 PM

just wanted to say I've had great fun with this, though I was even lazier and ran cyclone as my single target so I didn't even have to weapon swap, and swapped in some life and extra mana leech/gain on hit in place of attack speed here and there.
