Getting quality on Vaal gems

Unless I'm incredibly lucky, to get quality on a Vaal gem, do I need to vendor a level 20 version of it with a GCP? This recipe will work with vaal gems, right?

Vendor recipes that simply change the item count as modifications, not a trade for a new item - it won't work for Corrupted items to my knowledge.
Uberlab is the biggest source for Quality Vaal gems right now, I'm pretty certain. The Gem chest always has Quality and Levels, with a decent chance at containing a Vaal Gem. Last edited by Vipermagi#0984 on Oct 24, 2016, 7:14:21 AM

" This is correct. The GCP vendor recipe won't make a Vaal Gem have 20 quality. Softcore, solo self-found.

You can get some regular versions of the 20q gems and use vaal orbs on them until you turn one into a vaal gem.
