Fan art competition vs. GGG ethics

So today the fan art competition has concluded. I myself have participated as well. I must admit it left some bitterness in me, and I feel I need to speak my mind about this, and hope that GGG will actually respond.
Before the announcement of winners, I collected all the submissions in a folder and tried to select the ones I thought best - I came to the conclusion: sadly, mine is not among them - unfitting even in the top16 in my list. (that's how many people eventually won something in a previous competition). But I was still hoping.
I didn't win. Normally, I should now feel sad either because I didn't get an awesome prize I can't buy as long as I'm a student, or worse: because of the feeling that my art didn't get acknowledged. But I'm not sad. Why? Because I take comfort in the fact that the competition was ultimately invalid.
I was supposed to win! No. I'm just joking. But scorn72 was. And Head_Less. And kralj87. And hungryneko. OR EVERYBODY BUT! Do you know who is Not supposed to? Anybody who submits his artwork AFTER the offical deadline. That art could be the best, the killer, the BOMB, which nobody in his right mind would deem otherwise. But it still shouldn't win. That's just not fair. And this is not a personal attack towards that specific guy, who just happened to do that!(perhaps even unknowingly). See where I'm getting at? I think it was very irresponsible from the GGG jury to ignore their own deadline, because it breeds such an unjust result. It is unjust because it creates a situation where some people who actually abide by the deadline are robbed of time which they could've used to polish their artwork so it has a better chance at winning. I was there. Eandril was there. To quote him: " lot of the stuff I intended to be much more detailed is not but really need to go to sleep now".
Perhaps even GGG was unaware of this, yes. Maybe they overlooked the time of posting. But this sort of thing shouldn't be overlooked because of the situations that I just descbribed. And I think GGG owes people at least an apology.

Oh gees, a bitter but not wanting to be bitter contestant. Really? Just let those who won enjoy their time in the limelight. GGG made the selection, not you, not me, not anyone else.

The same exact thing happens with every contest here: GGG puts forth a good effort to help the community have fun in a competition that's meant to be enjoyed by all. GGG, I hope you don't let the sour apples spoil your willingness to continue with these fun contests.

So, yes they're human, things are overlooked, and some people are a little sore of who won or didn't win. Let the winners enjoy it without this mumbling on the side (and sorry you didn't win). On that note I didn't compete in this contest, because I know my artwork can't compare to the majority of contestants here. Any ways, contest is over. :-)

My entry would have easily scored in the top prizes. But I was a few hours after the deadline and did the proper thing by not submitting.

To be fair, that's the second time it happens (Ascendancy).

To the OP, take this; it's dangerous to go alone.

Can we still see your work, please? :)
While I personally don't care that much about how strict GGG are with their deadline, I certainly see the point. GGG could simply lock the submission thread once the time is up.

As I said, this is not a personal attack towards the contestant who missed the deadline. I'm not saying that any winner should be stripped of his/her prize. Hell, I even think he is more skilled and put in more effort than a few of the other winners. GGG always says how hard it was to pick the winners, and I can understand that. But you know what? It's that exact hard choice they could even make easier by ruling out those which can be objectively ruled out.

I hope as well that GGG will continue with the art competition. And dont get me wrong, I love GGG. I'm not one of those who are constantly bashing them about the lack of AH, the xp nerf or how the game is not even free to play. I still believe that GGG cares about the community. But this time they made a mistake and that is what spoiled the competition. I expect them to respond to this topic at least in one line that is not automated.

I wish next time they will make it fair and do what Alysma suggested and lock the thread once the time is up.

if what the OP says is true, this sounds dodgy and should be made right.
