Animate Guardian and leveling up...

Do Animate Guardians automatically scale up when the gem levels?

Like if I summon it and equip it right now at level 52 with 5000 hp or whatever... When the gem levels to the next level, will the HP of the guardian go up to the new value, or do I need to summon and equip a whole new guardian to get the new stat values?

Thanks

The gem level only allows you to animate higher level items. The bonuses applied by the gem are likely created at the time of use, so the modifiers for hp and dmg increases will not be updated to your guardian until you've casted/created a new guardian.

So yes, if you want a more powerful animated guardian, you will need to find higher level equipment, and re-summon.

So I will be gimped unless I buy new gear and re-summon him every single level to the cap?

Dont think "Xikini" is correct. AG life increases massively with gem levels. Furthermore due to the removal of "snapshotting" any changes to links, gem level, ... should be instant without the need to recast or whatever.

Look at the Wiki: http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Animate_Guardian

Edit: See further down: 'gem levels' do not apply instantly but require resummoning or entering a new area.

Edit 2: See even more further down: It (gem level) may actually apply instantly now and the "further down" quote may be outdated.

Well I know what he said holds true for other things.

Like Rejuvenation Totem. I summoned one and looked at the regeneration it gave me in my character sheet.

Then I summoned another and hit the level up button while it was out. The regeneration did not increase when I leveled it up. It only increased after I summoned a new one.

But I can't do any kind of test like that with Animate Guardian... I can't see its health and its resistances are consistent across all levels and dependent on gear.

So if I fully gear out the guardian at my current level, 52, which is entirely possible since all of the go-to items for Animate Guardian are lower level things. I have no way of knowing if his health is going up when it levels. I have no way of knowing if it goes up dismissing and bringing him back (via weapon swap or unequiping the gem). I have no idea about any of that because none of that information is displayed to me.

I would have no way of knowing if he was gimped until I tried some higher level thing and he died... Normally I wouldn't care, but it costs several chaos to gear him and the items are lost on his death... I am but a humble newb, I don't have the money to re-gear this guy every level to stay current.
I read through the wiki and didn't see anything suggesting that it was much different from any other summon.

I'm sorry if I misguided anyone, but that's the conclusion I came to after some brief research.

Minions:

All minions created by Dominating Blow, Summon Skeletons, Vaal Summon Skeletons, Summon Raging Spirit, Raise Zombie, Raise Spectre, Animate Weapon and Animate Guardian will dynamically update to all stat and support gem changes. Minions generated with a set level will not increase in level when the gem enabling them levels up. If such a gem levels up while you have minions active, the change in minion level will only be reflected in newly-raised minions. Minions will respawn when you enter a new instance, so their levels will update to match the current higher level of the gem.

Your Animate Guardian's equipment will persist on logout, but due to the snapshotting changes we're making, it won't immediately appear when you leave town. Players will now be able to retrieve their guardian by targeting a blank space of ground and casting the Animate Guardian skill.

If you are still doubtful: You can easily test it with a lvl 1 AG vs a higher lvl AG.

If you are a "newb" you will loose it sooner or later even at max level. It is possible to keep them alive - especially with passive/summoner support - but you need to know what you are doing.

I just did this with Rejuvenation Totem +/- Empower and with Stone Golem +/- Empower:

Rejuv Totem: Adding/Removing Empower after placement does nothing.
Stone Golem: Adding/Removing Empower instantly changes the regen it gives.

If re-summoning is required you can pull the gem from its socket or the gear with the gem and put it back, using the AG spell on a blank space to re-summon your existing guardian without effecting its gear.
