[2.5] The Anomaly Tank

Welcome!

This guide shall introduce you to one of the most versatile builds in the game, capable of doing pretty much all content.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFXYzW-3NIo&feature=youtu.be Boss's
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhRao8rxhBo&feature=youtu.be Hall of Grampa's

I started the build in hardcore prophecy and had no problems - cleared council, atziri, and difficult maps. At level 89, I brought it over to standard to optimize and the build with better gear. I currently use Legacy Aegis and Legacy rumi's, However legacy is not mandatory.

In short, this build focuses on maintaining a 50% buffed Rumi's flask close to 100% of the time even in PvP or long boss fights. Rumi's provides 10-15k armor and caps block/spell block. This is perfect for making an aegis build without investing in any block nodes!

Vortex is used as the main source of damage. Because it has two sources of damage (the initial hit, and the cold DOT) it is very versatile. Pyre ring converts the initial hit to fire damage, which further allows us to IGNITE in addition to the cold DOT of vortex.

***If flask management seems too difficult for you, I have come up with a more league friendly version using the witch that does not require rumi's at all.

Build Explanation

Flasks are the bread and butter of the build, effectively becoming a permanent buff since they are always in use. The Pathfinder allows us to focus entirely on jewels, es, and regen, rather than getting block nodes.

High es regen can be obtained with a nice es chest or Beast Fur Shawl, as well as replenishment from Aegis Aurora.

Rumi's concoction receives 50% increased effect, thus granting base armor of 4500 in addition to the block. This is then augmented by inc % armor from the skill tree.

vortex combined with 500% + elemental damage and 4-5 support gems can do massive damage. The build focuses mostly on the DoT of vortex. Because of Pyre ring, vortex can ignite, dealing massive fire DOT in addition to the cold DOT.

CWDT is used to cast flame dash, as well as a secondary 2l vortex. This is effective for killing monsters while stunned, or closing the gap to ranged. There are many different cwdt setups that can be used to fit different playstyles.

Elemental equilibrium and Elemental overload proc frequently using orb of storms and tempest shield.

Herald of Thunder can also be used in a 4l - it can deal massive lightning damage, provide mana leech while using vinktars, or can be used to apply a curse.

Mapping:
Spoiler

When running maps, I recommend removing Elemental Focus gem and using Chance to ignite. On very tough bosses, use Conc effect instead of inc AoE gem. The damage is very high with ignite, and can burn down tough bosses in seconds.

Gear:
Spoiler

Current es = 10.1k

Jewels used:
Reckless defense (to obtain 75/75 block)
9 x Grand spectrum Viridian jewel (5% ele damage) will gain another at lvl 95

Gear Explanation:
Spoiler

up to 132% elemental damage, has cast speed. Affects all our spells including the DOT of flamedash.

with 10k armor, you gain 200/400 es per block. 75/75 block makes aegis the best in slot.

Look for high energy shield chest - Beast fur is great for starters, until you can acquire a rare vaal regalia.

get high es helm with the resists you need. Look for increased vortex duration helm enchant or reduced HoT mana reserved.

allows the build to obtain 75% spell block

Look for high es

reduced flask charges used is a must since we rely heavily on flasks. Leo's "gain flask charge when you receive a critical strike" mod works in tandem with reckless defence jewel.

never worry about bleed again.

converts the initial hit of vortex to fire (but not the dmg over time). This procs elemental equilibrium and massively boosts the DoT.

load up on +es / resists

My setup (updated)- using stun immune skill tree

6L -Vortex - Rapid decay - controlled destruction - empower - Ignite/or ele focus - inc AoE/ or conc effect
if using a 5l, drop elemental focus or rapid decay

4L Herald of thunder - ele focus - increased duration - mana leech *****
4L Tempest shield - rallying cry - Discipline - orb of storms
4L CWDT - vortex - ele focus - and either frost bomb, flame dash, or another curse (enfeeble)
3l shield charge - faster attacks - fortify
3l CWDT - temp chains - molten shell

**** if you arent using Herald of thunder, you can use another aura setup. There are many different possibilities depending on what you can afford, and what feels right to you. Because of this, your gems may differ from mine depending on the aura's you use.

Flasks:
Spoiler

Being a pathfinder means that you rely heavily on flasks, so naturally, you need to have the right flasks.

Here is the optimum setup I use 99% of the time:

Why 2 rumi's? Well since we rely completely on rumi's for our block AND aegis, it is necessary to ensure that we have rumi's always available. You do NOT need legacy rumi's to achieve 75/75 block. You can do it with a 28/15% one.

Vinktar - okay this one is not mandatory, but if you can afford it, or a non legacy version, you should. The shock aura adds damage, and the mana leech allows you to spam vortex. Lastly, it is how we proc Herald of thunder. HoT also provides mana leech when linked with the gem. If you run Ghost Reaver from the skill tree, then Legacy vinktar provides instant life and mana leech from Herald of thunder.

If you cant afford a vinktar, dont worry, I would suggest running Devotion Aura instead of HoT, and maybe another cwdt, and on top of that, you can use witchfire brew!

The Overflowing chalice is beautiful. i don't mean aesthetically. Life regen? Check. Damage? check. refill all your other flasks 100% faster? Check!

Lastly, you need to have one speed potion. Since we are already immune to all status ailments, chaos, poison, bleed, all we need now is curse immunity. So get the warding suffix.

But our flask belt doesnt end there. We have an inventory for a reason. Here you can store your other favorable flasks. For PVP, its nice to have a worm jar to proc herald of thunder. For insane cold damage maps, maybe you want a saphire flask. Or a ruby flask (dying sun?). Or perhaps a concealed flask of Russian vodka!

For uber atziri, I run 3 rumi's, 1 chalice, and 1 adrenaline flask of warding. Herald of thunder can destroy you if it hits the reflect clone, so its better to play it safe and stand behind your infinite rumi flasks.

You do not need to carry a worm jar unless you are doing a very long fight that has no minions, and you want to be able to activate herald of thunder. Typically, these circumstances only occur in PVP.

Here is what I carry in my inventory:

Some people have suggested

This provides 45% increased area of effect.

Aura's
Spoiler

There are a few setups that can be used.

Discipline is mandatory.

For Pve, blasphemy temporal chains works best if you don't have the gear/level to use unwavering. This setup is also best for Uber Atziri.
Another option is using lvl 20 cast when damage taken to cast TC.

For PvP (Vortex has been harshly nerfed) - So I rely on my cwdt gems, my 6l vortex, and a 4l HoT. Everything combined still makes the build very formidable.

There's plenty of room to play around with aura's, use what feels best for you!

Some other aura's you may consider are:
Devotion (50% more armor)
Haste (move faster - be like Usain Bolt)
Purity of fire (uber atziri repellent)
Arctic Armor (chilled ground, chill enemies, reduce fire/physical damage taken)

Enfeeble blasphemy aura
Temp chains Blasphemy aura
Ele weakness Blasphemy aura

Leveling
Spoiler

A lot of people have asked me how I leveled as a ranger, so I will summarize my experience. This may not be the most efficient way but it worked for me.

From level 1-28, I leveled pretty much with any spell I could find. Spark and lightning trap seemed to work best.

Pick up at the very least a 4l of some sorts and run vortex - chance to ignite - inc aoe - controlled destruction. This set-up carried me well into the 70's at which time I obtained a 5L.

You dont really need to use discipline until you have invested into ES nodes, so you can run blasphemy TC. the TC really helps reduced the amount of times you get stunned.

Try to level 3-4 additional vortex gems in your offhand, as well as conc effect and/or empower(s). Its also nice to have a leveled elemental focus for times when you need it.

When you are in your 50's, you should start to acquire gear that has both life and ES. This will carry you until 70ish. At this point its time to start transitioning over to CI. I switched over once I had enough es gear to be over 5.5k.

From here, its smooth sailing, get that 5L or even 6L if you can and begin mapping and upgrading your ES gear. Beast Fur Shawl makes an excellent starting chest-piece.

Save up for an Aegis once you have two decent rumi's and have close to 10k armor.

Other variants of the build can be used - such as a trapper or another spell caster. It is not limited to just vortex.
