[2.3] UnlimitedBladeWorks CoC Aegis Pathfinder
I am the bone of my sword
Steel is my body and fire is my blood I have created over a thousand blades Unknown to Death, Nor known to Life Have withstood pain to create many weapons Yet, those hands will never hold anything So as I pray, unlimited blade works. Hello fellow Wraeclast tourists! This is my guide for my CoC Aegis build, inspired by the anime Fate/Stay Night [UBW]. The idea is to summon thousands upon thousands of blades to pierce the enemy while having the ultimate defense of Rho P.S. This is a softcore build, I have not tried this build on hardcore, and I'm not sure I would recommend it for hardcore. The build feels immortal 99% of the time but has a couple of downsides that can get you killed. Single, hard-hitting elemental hits are a big weakness of the build, along with hits you cannot block, such as Detonate Dead and Volatile Blood, and degeneration type damage, such as Corrupting Blood and Chaos damage. Build Concept We'll be starting as a Ranger-Pathfinder to maximize our skill tree and class efficiency. Let me explain what I mean. I realized early on that a Cast on Crit Aegis build would be a ridiculously point heavy build, much too point heavy to be even feasible. A checklist for our tree: -Critical Chance (Attacks) -Critical Chance (Spells) -Life -Block -Iron Reflexes -Armour/Evasion % -Spell Damage (Or any other damage scaling) -Area of Effect (Luxury) -Power Charges If you're familiar at all with building passive trees, you'll realize too that this checklist is way too big to fit into a reasonable 100-110 point build. Because of this, I knew that the Ascendancy would have to carry a huge amount of weight in getting the necessary stats. Possible Ascendancies included: -Assassin -Juggernaut -Gladiator -Slayer -Trickster -Pathfinder To make a long story short, I decided Pathfinder contributed THE MOST to the tree, by a long shot (assuming 100% flask uptime). With flasks, we can pretty much bring our armour up to a whopping 50k+ and max block with very little investment in the passives tree. We also get a ridiculous movement speed boost which helps immensely with clear time and hits per second with cyclone. Passives and Bandits Level 90 CURRENT TREE At this point, the build feels really good after tweaking quite a lot of points around and changing pathing. Keep in mind that you should get the jewel sockets for 2 points at some point, I simply haven't for lack of good jewels. This tree boasts: -183% Maximum Life -160% Crit -195% Spell Crit -150% Evasion -100% Energy Shield -4% block -Iron Reflexes -Flask Nodes -Some Damage -Not really all that much now that I think about it Where's all my block, you ask? Well, you don't need anything but the 4% block nodes to cap block and spell block using flask effectiveness and Rumi's. As for crit, the combination of power charges, Inc Crit Strikes, and a Diamond flask caps crit for our cyclone and brings our spell crit to 80%+. Ascendancy points: Pathfinder- Normal - Nature's Adrenaline Cruel - Master Herbalist Merciless - Master Surgeon UberLab - Nature's Boon Bandits are pretty self explanatory. Bandits: Normal - Help Oak +40 Life Cruel - Kill All +Passive Merciless - Help Alira +Max Power Charge Leveling
Spoiler
48 Point Tree From level 1 to the end of normal, you shouldn't need to get damage nodes at all. Just focus on getting life and traveling to the shadow area, then grabbing the important nodes there. I'd recommend using the new Amplification Rod and Blade Vortex. Blade Vortex does enough to carry you through Normal at least. If you have a little more currency to twink, I also tried using Facebreaker and a Tabula with good +flat phys gear, and it worked quite well for leveling. 75 Point Tree From here on, I recommend using either a Death's Opus or a Doomfletch's Prism to level. Death's Opus scales well off of crit, and you'll want to set up your power charges at this point to boost your crit. However, if you have leftover Facebreaker gear (+flat phys) I'd recommend Doomfletch over the Opus. Doomfletch's Prism scales insanely well with flat phys gear. In addition, I'd recommend grabbing Acro temporarily for one point because of the amount of survivability it provides for just one point. 93 Point Tree You'll now want to grab all your flask nodes and Iron Reflexes. At this point you should have completed two labs and possibly the Merc lab. Because of this, you'll want to grab flask nodes to augment your Pathfinder ascendancy, as well as take the time and currency to roll good defensive flasks. This is the point where you can start using Aegis and CoC. Keep in mind you'll have to find Elreon jewelry before this so you can actually Cyclone, along with an Enlighten level 2 to run both Grace and Determination. If you can't quite afford that yet, you can settle for only running one of auras and less Elreon Jewelry. You will need the spell block uniques though. 110 Point Tree (Level 90) CURRENT TREE Fill out the rest of the nodes, upgrade your gear and it should start feeling good by 80 to 85. You'll want to get to 90 to be able to do high tier maps safely though, and definitely spend good money on high life rolls while still capping resists. Gem Links Main 5-6L: Cyclone - Inc Crit Strikes - Cast on Crit - Blade Vortex - Bladefall - Etheral Knives Auras: Grace - Determination - Enlighten (2-4) Mobility: Lightning Warp - Faster Casting - Less Duration OR: Whirling Blades - Faster Attacks - Fortify OR: Shield Charge - Faster Attacks - Fortify CwDT/Vaal: CwDT - Immortal Call - Inc Duration - Vaal Haste Charge Generator: CwDT - Blade Vortex - Power Charge on Crit - ???? Curse: Blade Vortex - Curse on Hit - Vulnerability - ????
Spoiler
You do not want to try to run this CoC setup with less than a 5L. The missing links are your choice, do what you will. I bought a +1 curse amulet and placed another curse on the curse on hit setup. You can also use Faster Casting, Inc Duration, or whatever you feel like. The power charge generator is my lazy side coming out. Since we're using Grace and Determination, we can't rely on any mana reservation to generate power charges. Therefore, I use the next lazy solution, CwDT. It really only procs the Blade Vortex to generate charges on more difficult maps where you don't simply melt packs instantly. Which is where you need it. Of course, you're welcome to experiment with different curse and power charge setups. Vaal Haste is a huge boost to your boss kill and general clear. It gives you both movement speed and attack speed, both of which boost the amount you hit with cyclone. Gear Required Uniques:
Spoiler
Aegis Aurora I don't want to be too obvious here but I think you need this for an Aegis build. Stone of Lazhwar 100% required to cap spell block. +1 curse not necessary at all. Rainbowstrides Also 100% required to cap spell block. The Magnate This belt is just so insanely good for flask uptime. Plus physical damage. Plus strength, which our passive tree lacks. Required Rares:
Spoiler
Vagan Dagger As always, the best weapon for a cast on crit cycloner. You can get a shitty one like me, or you could not be lame and splurge on a multimod. Elreon Rings Because we are not a trickster, we actually have to worry about mana. Sorry, all you Fakeners. Anyway, I have some mildly shitty Elreon rings with crafted life that suffice. Hope you all can get better ones than me. Body Armour We have a few choices for a body armour.
Spoiler
Belly of the Beast An amazing boost to our life pool and increased life flask recovery. My personal choice (once I 6L this thing). With Belly and good life on other gear, you can easily reach 5k life. This, along with another 1k+ ES makes you very, very tanky against physical damage with your flasks, and gives you a somewhat decent lifepool for elemental damage. Carcass Jack Great clear speed boost by increasing the area of our Blade Vortex and Bladefall, not to mention some damage and life/res. Taboola Or, "The IDGAF, GIVE ME A 6L" chest. Currently using a Tabula and only pulling 4.3k life. Sick Rare Pretend I'm showing you a GG rare chest. The rest of our gear has to be rare to get any decent amount of defense. Stat focuses: -Life -Resistance -Defensive Stat* *The defensive stat (armour type) you look for will be determined by your ratio of Armour to Energy Shield. You will want your Energy Shield to be 2% of your armour rating when fully flasked for full efficiency. Current Gear:

Flasks My flasks:
Spoiler
I'm honestly not sure what the most optimal setup is right now. The absolutely required ones are Rumi's, Quicksilver, and Diamond. Right now, I can't quite keep a Vinktars at 100% uptime. I've replaced it with a simple Eternal life flask, because with all the flask effectiveness plus the boost in recovery rate from Belly of the Beast, I recover faster from the life flask than I would if I were leeching from Vinktars. As for the Diamond, remember how I said there was no way we'd be able to grab enough stats from the tree? Here's another instance of Pathfinder carrying our stats. We can artificially get capped crit using a diamond flask with 100% uptime. Optimally, I'd roll a diamond of heat for anti-freeze versus more difficult content. Diamond flask crit calculation
Spoiler
Diamond flasks work by rolling the crit chance twice. So say you have a tooltip crit of 75%. It rolls once, 75%. If it crits, it crits. If it doesn't roll above 75%, you roll once more for 75%. To calculate the chance of actually critting with a diamond flask, you have to calculate the chance you don't crit. In this example, our chance of not critting would be 1/4 * 1/4, because we'd have to fail the crit twice in order to not crit. Thus, we would not crit once out of every 16, or 6.25% of no crit. Flip the chance around, and you end up with a 93.275% chance of a crit. Thus, to cap our crit, we need to aim for just above 75% tooltip crit chance. -Thanks Moofacer for the statistics lesson. I advise you to go ahead and experiment with flask setups. Let me know what works for you, because I haven't settled just yet! I apologize for the abysmal frame rate. My computer can hardly handle this build without recording.
Spoiler
UberIzaro (2 man life) The first slam that dropped me really low was a result of melee damage snapshotting. Because he immediately starts up his melee when he spawns in, it snapshots before I can get my fortify and my enfeeble up. I was frankly surprised I survived the slam. This is also two man health Izaro, as my partner died earlier on in the lab, so it took much longer than it would have solo. Casual Gorge Run Gorge with Enfeeble/MonsterLife/Hexproof I realize near the end of the map that I haven't switched Fortify (Uberlab runs, extra tankiness) back to Ethereal Knives yet on my 6L. Crematorium Yeah. Waterways Waterways with Enfeeble/ExtraFire Doing my highest map for demonstration purposes. Even with Enfeeble the damage feels very good, boss takes longer than 5 seconds but I'm no Lowlife Blade Vortex or some very meta shit like that. Also "budget". Conclusion The build isn't quite in it's final stages yet, though it is nearing the end of its path. I can say that this build is a lot of fun to play. The ridiculous movement speed you get from Pathfinder is great for clearing, and CoC is always a fun skill to use. It is definitely not the highest DPS build out there. By a friend's calculations, I can hit around 150k DPS on a single target (it's really difficult to calculate the damage on this build since there are so many different things to account for), which isn't all that much considering there are builds like Lowlife Blade Vortex and classic Fakener out there. It's definitely no top tier build without a lot of investment, but it certainly is a hell of a lot of fun, and I recommend you try it. Wow, your build is very similar to what I want to try! Biggest difference for me is that I'm not going to use a Tabula, I'm going to use a Cospri's instead.
Cospri's triple curse enfeeble/assassin's/warlord's/temp chains (3 out of those 4). Warlord's Mark is great to survive, and it'll also let me use good rings instead of Elre's. Also my flask setup is a little different to yours. I'm planning on running: Rumi's (29/13 gives max block/sblock with aegis and no shield nodes) Atziri's Promise (big dps increase, and leech is good) Diamond flask - Chemist's Of Ironskin Jade flask - Surgeon's Of Warding Stibnite flask - Chemist's Of Adrenaline No life flask, so I'm hoping the leech+aegis is always enough to keep me alive. Chaos degen might be a problem, but I'll try to get some chaos res on gear, and I have the Atziri flask. With flasks up, I should have about 45k armour or something like that. I like Stibnite over the Of Reflexes suffix because Stibnite also gives 50% evade chance, making up for taking Iron Reflexes. For gem setup, if I don't run Ass Mark I'll probably try getting power charges with Cyclone - CoC - Blade Vortex - PCoC . Also, I'm planning on a cwdt Vortex setup.
Here's the gear I've accumulated for the build so far
Thanks for writing a levelling section, that was the part I hadn't figured out yet. I'll have to pick up a Doomfletch's Prism, which, to be honest, I wanted to do anyway because it's a neat item. builds: https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1663570/

I love it! When I was figuring out the build in the beginning, I was debating whether or not to run a as well Cospri's and drop the poison ascendancy node for the elemental immunity one like you did.
Some feedback, For the curses, I'd recommend using Enfeeble/Warlord's/Tempchains, and having a separate setup for your power charges. You can probably swap in Assassin's Mark for Enfeeble when you do low level maps for ease of power charge generation. And nice idea, using Warlord's for mana leech so you won't have to run Elreon jewelry. How much mana will you have unreserved, will it be enough? About your sustain, with just Warlord's and Atziri flask, you might not have enough leech on bosses with reduced curse effectiveness. I'm not sure because I haven't tried it with Vaal pact, but the amount I leeched with just Warlord's and Atziri flask without Vaal pact was definitely underwhelming. Instead, if you can sustain it well enough, I'd recommend picking up a Vinktar's instead of the Atziri's, since you have status immunity anyway. It's pretty much a stronger version of Atziri flask but with the downside of being harder to maintain. It was fairly difficult for me to sustain flask charges without The Magnate, but maybe your rare belt with some flask affixes on it can work. Haven't tried because it's notoriously difficult to find flask belts on poe.trade. No one looks for that shit haha. And by the looks of your tree and gear, I think you'll have just above 4k life? It may have problems with one shot mechanics since your armour and life pool will be lower than mine, but I'm not sure. For my build, I'm pretty much trading the Cospri's triple curse and elemental immunity node for the huge life pool increases from a Belly of the Beast and grace and determination, with selfcast curse. From a synergistic standpoint, I really like your build. It looks like it'll feel amazing against pretty much everything Path has to throw at you, except one shot mechanics (but that's path). Thanks for sharing! EDIT: I did some testing and found that with Warlord's and Atziri flask, at least on trash, the sustain was good enough (with vaal pact) Also, I thought about your version for a while longer, and I think yours has a lot more strength for less downsides. I might adopt the Cospri's poison as well, it would allow me to more important things on my flasks by freeing up the poison ascendancy for the elemental immunity one. "Woo! I'm glad you like my variant, I haven't made a build like that before and I was worried that it just flat out wouldn't work haha. Seeing your post, I don't at all regret dumping money into the Cospri's, Rumi's, Aegis, and Lazhwar. Can't wait to level it up, I love the idea of getting capped block from one shield and one flask. Yeah Vinktar is definitely something to try out, but uh... I might need more money to get one lol, especially if I try to 6L the Cospri's. Would I use a lightning-conversion one? My only reservation there is that it'd lower poison damage, but then, shock double-dips with poison and the build does plenty of damage so it should be alright. For flask sustain, I should probably get a belt with 2 flask suffixes instead of just the one, I've got this thing waiting for me in standard that I snagged for like 5c in talisman: As you said, it's hard to find a belt with 2 flask suffixes AND passable other stats. And I agree that my life pool will be relatively small against one-shots, but, well, it's standard so I can afford to roll the dice ^^ I'll also try to pick up more life jewels and good life gear as I level past 90. Probably getting good ES/life gear would be the best way to boost my life pool, so I'll have to watch out for a good helmet where I could get those stats. Oh by the way, I'm pretty sure Diamond Flask can take you over capped crit, since it doesn't affect your base crit chance. If you have 90% crit chance, say, and you have Diamond up, then you'd have 2 rolls on 10% chance not to crit, should equate to 99% actual crit chance (note you can never reach 100% this way, but you can get very close). EDIT: Whooh, 400 fusings well-spent!

Really cool build
| |
Hey mate,
realy cool build loving it, even tho i changed some things... And as a suggestion: Charge Generator: CwDT - Blade Vortex - Power Charge on Crit - ???? If you take Tempest Shield as the 4. link, you dont need any block nodes to hit 75%. Thats 3 points to spend elsewhere, like Jewel Slots or whatever you miss/like. See ya. |
