I'm a PoE Veteran that has been playing the Marauder class for 4 years and mostly building around melee base skills as melee has always been a favorite play style for me over spells. I've spent over 290+/PLAYED DAYS in investing and developing strong end game melee base builds throughout my 4 years in PoE. The following build you are about to look at is a 2h staff crit based build that is extremely versatile allowing you to utilize every possible aoe melee skills gems available in Path of Exile. The build prioritizes using several defensive and offensive mechanism to make this build viable. With that said I'll first explain couple of important defensive mechanism as defensive mechanism is what make builds viable and efficient. First you will be taking a 2h staff passive tree node on that tree that allows you to generate endurance charges on crit. Second with constant endurance charges uptime we will utilize immortal call to prevent high incoming physical damage, which includes Blood Rage degeneration, corrupting blood, Physical Reflect, high physical boss attacks, and much more. Last we will be using the item (Acuity Vaal Gaunlets), which allows you leech back life instantly on crit allowing to self sustain and facetank most bosses in game. Other defensive stuff such as resistance and auras will be mention elsewhere on the guide. The offensive part of this build focuses on high critical strike chance, high critical strike multiplier, and high attack speed. One of the main items for the build is the Abysuss Ezomyte Burgonet Helm, which dramatically give you a crazy amount of dps as it has the implicit mod of 225% crit multiplier. The only down side is taking the huge physical damage debuff. The other alternative is the Rat's nest, which is also viable. Ground Slam could potentially be good if you are not prioritizing aoe on your gear as it has the high base aoe range on the skill gem. For bossing groundslam is not a bad alternative, though generally there are other aoe melee skills out there right now in this current patch that outscales groundslam. Setup 1. Setup 2. WITH + The most played. The most well known melee skill. Earthquake. Yes earthquake as you know it is the current meta melee skill, however there are couple of down sides using earthquake as the main primary skill for this build. The build priotize high crit multiplier and when you are facing a reflect pack or mob when youi cast earthquake the aftershock (DOES NOT) apply leech, thus it can potentially be quite dangerous, though for me i really had no trouble using this skill because i had the (RIGHT) setup and (RIGHT) flask usages. Overall this skills is an S+ scaling really on most aspect of the chart graph. SUNDER SETUP

Setup. Sunder is a skill, which most players look aside though it does have some potential in trash clearing it is not recommend generally. The thing that could be possibly good with sunder at this current patch and meta is for leveling and single target bossing as sunder has a base range that does not change no matter how you tune around with ur area of effect and works quite well with concentrated effect. Setup. Before Earthquake came out Icecrash was the meta , though it could be viable it is not really recommended unless you are playing as the berserker where you could leech elemental physical damage. Using this spell could be quite dangerous against ele reflect mobs. Ice crash however has an extremely high base damage that could also potentially be great as a bossing skill though right now this skill has a B- scaling (NOT RECOMMENED) BUT COULD BE VIABLE

Setup. Cyclone one of the most nerfed melee skill in Path of Exile. Yes the nerf is horrible i know :( however it's still quite a viable spell depending how you gear towards it. Cyclone is extremely powerful for single target and has great aoe damage, but it's radius is quite hideous without +weapon range or an huge amount of increase area of effect. For this build is only viable with slayer as slayer subclass node provides a huge amount of aoe subclass nodes. Cyclone could be an S+ scaling for both aoe and single target if only you have +weapon range and an insane amount of increase area of effect. Although it does not reach the dps even with mirrored gear to the berserker the Juggernaut offers absolute power and supremacy in playing as the tank role or the tank version of this build. Before I created this guide playing juggernaut was what i started off with till i reached level 98 and did further testing with the Berserker. As playing the juggernaut you are able to generate endurance charges from the staff talent tree smashing strikes, then combine with the juggernaut passive unrelenting you are almost always able to main your max endurance charges making you almost completely immune to physical damage. Considering this build is leaning towards more on dps then defense with the 2 passive it provides everything thing you need to mitigate high incoming physical damage. The juggernaut also offer additional subclasses nodes which makes your character completely immune to character disability, which many thing such as stun, slow, and freeze leads many players in poe to there death. The juggernaut is powerful as is the berserker they both have there up and downs and both variations really depends on the player preference in terms of playing the game. Perseverance.......... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (SLAYER VERSION) (CONCEPT OF THE SLAYER ALTERNATIVE) The slayer alternative of the build offers you to invest as much dps as you possibly can while not worrying such things as physical reflect or getting hit by something hard. The Slayer playstyle offers a ranged based melee kind of playstyle as the slayer offers 2 incredible subclass aoe node that provides the maximum aoe radius of 40% and with the total of 130% from gear and the aoe wheel near the Templar tree. With such incredibly high aoe radius you are able to kill most enemies afar and allows you to have more aoe coverage then any other range or known aoe builds out there. One of the mains skills for slayer will be utilizing the skill gem "sweep" (360aoe radius). Secondly a slayer subclass node "Headsman" negates incoming reflect physical damage by 50%, which enables you maximize as much physical dps you want allowing you to wear things such as the abysuss as reflect damage will not be a problem. Lastly with a staff crit node on the tree (Smashing strikes) you are able to constantly generate endurance charges without warcrys, which enables you to be tankier and use immortal call without self casting enduring cry itself. Another noticeable problems with the other variations of the build people face is buying the end game item (Acuity Gauntlets) as acuity gauntlets solves reflect problems while having incredibly high crit multiplier. With the slayer variation of the build you do not need the gloves at all as the slayer subclass node "Headsman" reduce 50% physical reflect damage taken. What do you think about earthquake with this setup? No good because of the aftershock delay? Also, can you do uber atziri? Ive never done Atziri and want to do it this league. Regarding to your question on Earthquake. Personally I've tested Earthquake it's an amazing skill. But I've reached my final conclusion that any Earthquake builds are only good with the modifiers of poison and bleed. There are poison quake builds out there that I would recommend if earthquake is your play style.
