Battlefront magical barrier

What is powering it and why does it remain after defeating Gravicius/Piety/Dominus?

I think it's mostly a matter of not having to redo the level, seeing how the barracks have other things blocking the way.
It is a valid question given prisoners gate, I admit.
Zaanus:
Global chat: Mechanics for A work one way, B for another, C for a third but also with A, B uses C but not A, and D uses A&B but not C

Isn't a "no" better than an ignore?
The bridge? It is barricaded? That spawns a tricky question.
Face it, all of your suggestions are worse than this idea:

If there is lore behind it I couldn't find anything definitive. I got my SO to finally start playing and they are much more interested in the lore than I ever was but I must admit this has sparked my curiosity a bit.
It is most likely powered by a Thaumaturgical device of some kind, possibly one inside the barrier itself that prevents anyone from going through that path.

So, killing the bosses doesn't do anything since the device, wherever it may be, is still active.
