What is powering it and why does it remain after defeating Gravicius/Piety/Dominus?

I think it's mostly a matter of not having to redo the level, seeing how the barracks have other things blocking the way.
It is a valid question given prisoners gate, I admit. Zaanus:
Global chat: Mechanics for A work one way, B for another, C for a third but also with A, B uses C but not A, and D uses A&B but not C ___ Isn't a "no" better than an ignore? |

It is most likely powered by a Thaumaturgical device of some kind, possibly one inside the barrier itself that prevents anyone from going through that path.
So, killing the bosses doesn't do anything since the device, wherever it may be, is still active. |
