When Chris says that lab haters are a minority, how right is he?

I'm sorry. I actually interacted with you earlier in the thread and had similar responses from you. I decided it was much better for everyone if I simply stopped interacting with you forever. I'll try to remember your name in the future so I don't make this same mistake again.

Have a nice day. :)

That's it, you're always coming back with the same arguments, ignoring everything else : Unless there is a real survey, noone can state they know the truth, end of story.

Have a nice day too.

I could paste my response to the guy who used the white supremacist analogy earlier, but why do you have such a skewed opinion of the POE forum community compared to the POE community at large? What makes you believe that the POE forum community is wholly different from the POE community at large? What evidence has led you to this conclusion?

If 48% of 1070 people on the forum took a poll and said they hate something, what is it exactly that makes you believe this isn't representative of all POE players? What makes you believe that the people who don't visit the forum are so very different from the people who do?

Because since the creation of the internet forum users have been more bitchy / and whiny than the players in game.

They choose to visit the forum, and the others don't. That's a significant difference. Choice is motivated by something. Actively choosing to participate in a poll indicates you have an opinion on the matter, so any poll that is trying to decide if you have an opinion on it can't be done by asking people to take the poll. Doesn't matter the topic or the forum or anything else. That's why these polls are meaningless.

It's a difference, sure. But how does it indicate a difference in beliefs? There's no end of reasons people could have for visiting or not visiting a forum. It's impossible to draw conclusions about their beliefs from whether or not they visit a forum. You just can't reasonably say that the opinions of the lab from people who visit the forum will be different from those of people who don't visit the forum without knowledge of the opinions of the non-visitors, which none of us have.

The poll in question isn't trying to decide if people have an opinion on the lab. It's asking what the opinions people have on the lab are. Due to the way our brains work, it's most likely impossible to play through the labyrinth without forming opinions on its content. Humans may be biological machines, but we're biological machines that are really, really good at judging things.

By your definition all polls are meaningless though, unless you put a gun to everyone's heads and demand a response.

When has this escalated to interrogation at gunpoint? Pulling up random people and politely asking for their opinions is the customary method, you don't gather a crowd and ask for volunteers.

Which is pretty much what board polling does, and the reason is sucks so much.

If you ask random passers-by to participate in your poll they can refuse and keep walking

Well sure, two subsets of people are excluded that way:
- those in a hurry
- assholes

And unless the poll is about rights of assholes worldwide I don't see how will that skew results.
