Steam unknown error when starting

So...
"Failed to start game (unknown error)" I get this message when I try opening the game through Steam. Tried reinstalling, validate game files (which always shows 4 broken files but does not try to fix them and they seem to remain there), Run as administrator (which won't work when tried with whatever .exe in the main PoE folder), restarting both Steam and computer won't help either. Surfing through the forums I found the only person that fixed this had to format his comp... I ran PoE before in this very same OS without a problem, and have been seeing several posts either here or in Steam forums with that same problem, including the 4 broken files on validation. Is there a solution for this? I'm not willing to format, with dozens of other games I could play instead.. I just wanted to play some PoE again with friends :) Last bumped on May 19, 2016, 7:13:23 PM

Hey there! I'm sorry to hear you're having this trouble :(
I can see you tried running Path of Exile as an Administrator with little success; could you please try closing down Steam and restarting it as an Administrator? After doing so, please verify the integrity of the game cache once again, and check your antivirus settings to ensure that's not blocking your connection to Steam or Path of Exile. If Path of Exile still does not work please disable the Steam Overlay by opening Steam and clicking Settings > In-Game Settings > uncheck the box next to Enable Steam Community In-Game and click OK. After doing so restart Steam and launch Path of Exile once again. If this issue persists after following these steps, you may need to try contacting Steam Support. Hello! Thanks for the fast response :)
I tried all of the above, but to no avail. But.. Steam seems to be actually trying to re-download the 4 failed files, and it actually does, but they still won't work.. and checking the last update date on the files I found out those 4 files are: CrashUpload.exe PackCheck.exe PathOfExileSteam.exe twitchsdk_32_release.dll Maybe something wrong with those? :) |
