Felix's "The Windripper" Inquisitor Tornado Shot - Atziri Farm/Uber Viable: Detailed Guide

This is a crit/elemental bow build utilizing the Inquisitor ascendancy, as well as the Windripper unique bow, to bypass enemy resists and essentially deal nearly full tool-tip DPS on an elemental based build.

Pros:
Spoiler

Fast clear
Elemental penetration (thanks to Inquisitor)
Tanky without mitigation through leech and the Vaal Pact Keystone
Great single-target DPS
Allows for a utility attack setup
Can be played MF if you so choose
Can run any mod aside from elemental reflect (Including phys reflect and blood magic)

Cons:
Spoiler

Takes a bit of currency to get running (not a good starter build)
Difficult to break the 5k life mark
Cannot run ele reflect
Accuracy may be a bit difficult to obtain. I only have 85% however, and it has never posed any problems
Templars don't have pants

A little background:
This build has several variations, like most bow builds, but I have chosen to use Tornado Shot as it provides both AoE clear and single target with only a swap from GMP to LMP. This allows for another gem setup to be used for either utility or burst damage; both will be outlined below. Other setups include Lightning Arrow/Ice Shot/Split Arrow and Blast Rain, but those skills, namely LA/BR, are very common to current meta builds (*cough*VOLTAXIC*cough*) so I chose to go with something that fits the Windripper in a more thematic sense.

First things first, the damage :

General Mapping DPS(Malo's): (6 Frenzy, 3 Power, GMP)
Spoiler

GMP DPS with full buffs(Malo's): (Atz Promise, Silver Flask, Vaal Haste and charges)
Spoiler

LMP w/charges only(Malo's):
Spoiler

LMP w/full buffs(Malo's):
Spoiler

-Facebreakers- GMP w/charges, LMP with charges, and LMP w/full buffs respectively:
Spoiler

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I was able to cap crit on my TS, so I swapped to a pair of 90% crit multi Facebreakers; they were a huge boost. 70k general mapping dps, 80k single target and 116k burst is pretty damn good for an ele bow build.

...And now for defense:
Spoiler

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can see, aside from the Acrobatics Keystone, over-capped resists (mostly) and minor evasion on gear, there isn't anything too special here; this build gets its survivability from Vaal Pact

Skill Trees:
Spoiler

Leveling Tree:
Lots of traveling. The first damage node we grab is King of the Hill followed by Lethality; the rest is a big long run from Templar to the Ranger section of the tree.

Level 90 Tree:
Don't pickup Vaal Pact until you've got Vitality Void and the other 3 nearby nodes for life/mana leech. Fill out jewel slots as you need them: Place a Static Electricity on the long run from Scion to Ranger (the only jewel slot with some dex nearby)

Ascendancy Points:
Normal and Cruel points should go toward Righteous Providence>Inevitable Judgement.
On Merciless take Augury of Penitence for a little extra survivability and damage.

Bandits:

Oak, Kill, Kraityn

Gems/Links

Primary Skill:

6L:
Tornado Shot>GMP>WED>+Light>+Cold>Increased Critical Strikes.

For a 5L, remove Added Cold.

The single target setup is identical for 5L/6L, but instead of GMP we use LMP.

(For a detailed explanation as to why... Take it away Mr. Ziggy.)

The TLDR is that on top of a smaller 'less' multiplier on the gem itself (vs GMP), LMP trumps no multiple projectiles because we get huge gains from the small projectiles that explode from the original tornado. Thus, LMP is a DPS upgrade over something like Pierce or Slower Projectiles.

Secondary Skill:

You have two solid options here, though one is more suited for a 5L and the other for a 6L. With one 6L and one 5L, I recommend TS in your 6 and the following in your 5:

If you do not have two 6L's:

Frenzy>GMP>Power Charge on Crit>Increased Crit Strikes>Faster Attacks

This is the utility setup, it ensures that you always have your full potential DPS rolling on your Tornado Shot for bosses and also makes running Vulnerability maps more comfortable (no worrying about Blood Rage DoT).

If you do have two 6L's:

Vaal Burning Arrow>Trap>GMP>Increased Crit Strikes>Elemental Focus>Concentrated Effect

This is a burst setup that works very well for cheesing Atziri split-phases and plain ol' boss deletion. The single target damage from this skill is absolutely nuts and works like most trap/mine setups for downing Atziri: Tornado Shot builds usually have something like a Puncture Trap setup here, this is the elemental equivalent (albeit, it's a Vaal skill). If you do use this setup, I highly recommend using two leveled VBA gems and filling both during trash for Apex/Alluring Abyss/Core/etc... That way you always have 6 nukes to drop on whatever boss you're up against.

This setup can work in a 5L, you simply remove Conc Effect, but after some testing I found that I preferred the Frenzy+PCoC setup (my WR is only 5L) and I think that's the way to go. It's definitely worth a try either way though, very cool to see 5 mini, fiery discharges wrecking solo enemies.

4-Links:

Spoiler
You have some choices to make here. I have a 5L/6S Windripper, so I was able to throw my Summon Lightning Golem in the open socket. Aside from Blink Arrow, Wrath, Lightning Golem, a Herald of Ice+Curse on Hit setup and a CWDT+Immortal Call setup, feel free to play around with various Vaal skills (Haste/Grace).

I am currently using:

Helm (3G/1B): Blink Arrow, Wrath, Blood Rage, Teleport

Gloves (3R/1G): CWDT>Immortal Call>Increased Duration>Vaal Haste
-This setup grants the benefit of Inc. Dur. to both Immortal Call (protection against physical burst) and Vaal Haste (a huge DPS cooldown, to use the MMO term)

Boots (2B/2G): Herald of Ice>Curse on Hit>Assassin's Mark, Vaal Haste
-Primary Method of power charge generation. On curse immune maps, use the Frenzy+PCoC 5L setup or just go without. This Vaal Haste can be swapped for Vaal Grace on tougher maps

Slight Skill Discussion:
Spoiler

I chose Lightning Golem over Ice Golem because attack speed really does wonders for this build by boosting both leech rate and DPS (the lightning dmg aura and attack speed beats out +crit/accuracy from Ice Golem in my gear)

Your Curse on hit setup is HoI>CoH>Assassin's Mark. You can throw Frenzy in place of Vaal Haste/Grace here for single target cursing if you wish.

Gear:
Spoiler

There is only one required unique for this build, the Windripper, but there are a couple of others worth noting:

Helm: Rat's Nest

This helm gives crit, movement speed, a ton of evasion and that sweet, sweet attack speed this build generally lacks because we don't get any from the tree. The increased rarity and smaller character model are nice bonuses

Gloves: Maligaro's Virtuosity/Facebreakers

Maligaro's did receive a nerf, but use them until you have capped your crit for TS, then swap to Facebreakers. Using the Inc. Crit Strikes gem in our Tornado Shot makes it very easy to swap to a pair of Facebreakers: try to get a pair with 90% crit multi. They increased my DPS by 8k on the low-end and 11k on the top-end.

My Current Gear:
Spoiler

Gear Discussion
Spoiler

Helm:
Rat's Nest is BiS here, but you can get away with an evasion helm that has life, resists, and some accuracy.
Chest:
Any 5/6L evasion based chest with life and resists is good. I farmed/bought Dapper Prodigy cards for the one I'm using and chaos spammed 'til I got something worth using. You can find something much better than what I've got; it's essentially a budget 6L. Belly of the Beast, Daresso's Defiance, and Lightning Coil (if you can cap resists) all work well here too.
Gloves:
Maligaro's help you cap crit and provide attack speed w/a small amount of crit multi. Use them until you have capped crit on your TS, then swap to Facebreakers: FBs brought my crit chance down ~4% to 91.8, but the crit multi boost that a 90% multi pair can give makes a big difference. Otherwise, go with rare gloves - life/resists/attack speed/accuracy/elemental damage rolls.
Belt:
A rare leather belt with life, resists, and WED. Not too much to say here.
Boots:
Life, resists, and movement speed. If you have an open prefix, you can craft WED here.
Amulet:
This is your problem solving spot. I got lucky with a bricked Sidhebreath that gave some pretty GG stats, but the important things to look for are WED, crit, crit multi, accuracy, life, either a lightning or cold damage roll (or both) and whatever resists you may still need. The Amulet slot is a huge DPS booster, so I recommend filling out most, if not all of your remaining resists on your rings to get the most damage as possible out of it.
Rings:
Here you want to get resists, life, crit, WED, crit (which my rings are seriously lacking) and maybe some accuracy if you can manage. Getting a wee bit of int here (so you don't have to take two +30 nodes like I did), or some strength to help with the WED gem is a big plus too.
Quiver:
Here you want a Spike-Point Quiver. It has a crit implicit which allows you to craft another crit roll. The big stats here are WED (at least 30%), an added elemental damage roll, crit, crit multi, life and any single resist you may need to cap out. Quivers can get a crafted attack speed roll as high as 12%, but I feel that there are so many sexy stats you can get on them that it's worth bypassing attack speed if you need to fit something like a last bit of resistance or more crit.

Leveling
Spoiler

Uniques:

Storm Cloud (no link unfortunately :c)

Level with a Storm Cloud and Lightning Arrow/Shrapnel Shot as a normal ele bow build until 28 when you can swap to TS/Blast Rain.
At 25, throw your Maligaro's on.
At 28 you can also swap into Wake of Destruction

This setup should carry you all the way up to your Windripper, but I swapped out Storm Cloud pretty early on for a series of crafted bows that had decent crit and ele damage rolls. (I like to burn Alchemy Orbs while leveling)

2, -8 Elreon rings are a HUGE help. I recommend getting 2 Two-Stone -8 rings with life and extra resists until you grab the small, .4% mana leech node near Vitality Void to help sustain mana. You should able able to find some for less than 5c crafted, or buy blues and Aug/Regal them yourself as you level up (crafting them early can raise the level requirement well above what they were).

You can also level with Ice Shot/Split Arrow/Lightning Arrow in place of Tornado Shot, but again, I like the theme this build gets going with a bow called Windripper and shooting little tornados.

Hey, i'm currently using your build and I was wondering what flask setup you were using. Also, would you consider making your profile public so I can checkup on your gear progress? thanks

your build is very good but i would change 5x5% max life from a scion wheel to -> golem's blood +15% max life +10 str + 1.6% regen in 3 passives and bravery -> 24% ar ev +13% max life in 2 passives

you get extra 3% life, some decent stats, and +1 jewel next to it.

gonna try it in 2 weeks league tho

oh, and why not instrument of virtue ascendancy? +40% attack dmg, +10% ias - just cast your bloodrage/vaal haste. augury of penitence seems to be useless on tornado shot char

gl :3
how much hp u have? it looks really low man
the dps is low, and no reflect means you can't deal with a lot of end game content, including most important content in game: atziri

The dps cant be rly hight at all thx to windripper (130-160 ele dps base). Starting a windripper build u should know that you will be able to clear midtier maps fast and highmaps not rly effective.
try to stack magicfind and farm for a endgame viable char.
