Bubbling Flasks heal too much
This is not a balance complaint, flasks with the "Bubbling" prefix seem to work incorrectly since a recent update.
"Bubbling" life flasks grant more instant healing than "Seething" life flasks, even though "Bubbling" also gives regeneration in addition. This makes them strictly better, which is both odd from a balance stand point and not in line with how they used to work. It seems like Bubbling flasks are supposed to grant 50% reduced amount in total, split evenly into 25% instant and 25% regeneration, but they are actually granting what is close to 50% instant and 50% regeneration. This might have happened due to confusion with the wording, since it is phrased as "50% reduced Amount Recovered" (=50% of the initial total) and "50% of Recovery apply..." (= 50% of that 50% reduced total). The two passive modifier types "increased life recovery from flasks" and "increased flask effectiveness" were not overlooked, they were even explicitly taken into consideration. Up to now I did not find a perfectly fitting hypothetical calculation though. This find started as a Reddit thread, which also includes a video, see here. Both the reddit thread author and I tested "Bubbling Divine Life Flasks" (with various suffixes), in case the bug is limited to that flask size only. Edit: The bug seems to be connected to the life recovery nodes. Bubbling flasks without any altering nodes don't have the issue. I know this post is pretty old but was playing today I also noticed my bubbling flasks being weighted much more towards the instant side rather than 50/50. I searched around to see if anyone else had noticed or documented what was going on with bubbling flasks and I found this thread. I decided to look into what was happening and from my test it appears that "X% increased effect of Flasks" is affecting the value healing on the flask (intentional) as well as the "% Recovery Applied Instantly" portion of the affix (unintentional).
If you have 18% Flask effect bonus using a bubbling flask will be equal to the same quality seething for the instant portions in addition you will still receive some recovery over time. I don't know if this helps the developers solve the issue but the formula used to predict the instant portion was just add the flask effect % to the intended 50% (eg. 24% effect of flask becomes 74$ instant/26% Over time, before flask duration multipliers) You can see my samples and my calculations on this Google Sheet. Most of it probably relatively useless but seemed accurate outside of a bit of rounding. Also the wiki entry for flasks says "Modifiers to effect of Flasks does affect recovery amount and is additive with increased recovery from flasks and flask quality." This seems untrue, I believe they are multiplicative. Some one could fact check me and change that but you know whatever really who knows how up to date wiki is. TL;DR - at 18% increased effect of Flasks bubbling strictly better than same tier flask of seething. Last edited by goraklol#3818 on Feb 7, 2017, 2:48:06 PM
