Hogwash.
This is the weakest (I do not want to call it stupid) argument defending the lab
1* If I have to choose consistent role vs better gameplay, the choice obvious. Fixing broken game design, is more important than full adherence to the lore
2* Heck, if you want to be 100% consistent with the lore, it may be explained in this way:
"Azmeri secretly built shortcut to Ascendancy chamber, to reward clever people, who can be smart enough to find this shortcut. Izaro found this passage, he is afraid that we want to prison him again, so he fights with us."
Voila, we are good with lore again!

I did suggest once that every major race/nation in the game world (maraketh, karui, vaal, ezomyte) might have a form of ascendancy trials and they could be very different from lab. The problem with that is the following - if that becomes a method of introducing new sets of ascendancies you will still have to do lab if you want imperial ascendancies and if it's just an alternate method for the current set who's gonna pay for it?

There were quite a few people getting pissed about money being spent on the XBOX port because they won't play it so we can probably assume that players which are fine with the lab would get pissed that resources are going for something as frivolous as an alternative. Mind you, XBOX port has an extenuating factor of potentially being able to bring more money back than was spent if it becomes popular. That likely wouldn't be the case with a lab alternative, you can't hype something that might be interpreted as a bandaid for a blunder and the amount of potential customers it could pull back is suspect.

Which does bring me to something, if GGG released a separate set of supporter packs with the intention to fund a lab alternative would you buy it?
