SET FREE THE ASCENDANCY POINTS (or rework the lab) [New ascension methods/lab rework ideas]

you bought cool stuff thinking the game would stay d2 and you could use it as the game added d2 content. Then we got platform content that unlike most of the d2 content is mandatory because people donated to this game for the d2 content. Ironically the Lab is mandatory because no one wants to do it (in my opinion).

Never in my wildest dreams/nightmares did I ever imagine at the time that my favorite game of all time would be turned into shit that I would no longer want to play. After Labyrinth was released I was dumbfounded and switched to hating the idea of an online game where a game I thought I would play and financially support into the indefinite future was no longer playable. You see, PoE is the first time I ever signed up for an online game where I had to upgrade to the latest version and the latest version was a piece of shit.

You thought wrong.
This isn't D2, this is PoE.
Even though it''s basically the same still.
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

I think what was meant, or at least my view is, that D2 was a super great game. PoE was a superior "upgrade" to D2 than even D3 was. That means the game play of PoE more reminiscent of the great game play in D2 than even D3 was. Labyrinth just shit on that though, IMHO.

Well, I think that you're actually focsing wayy too much on the lab, which makes your overall opinion/view of the game very negative at the end.

I agree. It's such a small part of the whole game.

While even the smallest of things warrant an opinion, to act like the world is ending because of the lab, might just be a tiny exaggeration.
Carry on my waypoint son, there'll be peace when maps are done.

Try to make maps meet, you're a slave to the meta, then you leave.

If we just could do it once and then have it grandfathered so we never had to do it ever again.

But this is bad content we have to run over and over and over and over and over and over and over for the rest of eternity for EVERY character.

It's 4 times per character and you don't need to at all. You also don't need to do maps, or start the game or even get out of bed in the morning.

If you want to get anywhere in life or in game though... you'll have to do something for it. Sometimes that's fun stuff, sometimes it's not. And yes that applies even to entertainment and games. You can never please everyone.

Unlike a standard MMO game where you might play one characters for years, we might say PoE nothing less than flaunts its cyclic nature. To extend playtime, we're expected to relevel if our character fails, we reach its expected power level or just get bored. We're encouraged to play leagues and other events where we need to start from scratch, level our characters, masters, assemble their gear/gem sets and fill out atlas anew every time.

That's one thing at least where lab conceptually doesn't feel at odds with the rest of the game.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.

Another viewpoint would be to agree 100% with your first paragraph, and then substitute the following for your last sentence:

You get to experience the sensation of "WTF is this platform mini-game piece of shit doing in an ARPG?" up to four times for each new character you make.

... and to add the following thoughts ...

Most of the time, you get at least the option to develop your character in new ways in RPGs or ARPGs simply by leveling. The leveling process is supposed to proxy getting enough experience and skill to build up your repertoire of available skills and your options for character development. The "you gotta do something special to become special" stuff is not unheard of, but it isn't usual. Moreover, whatever "special" thing you're asked to do to specialize your character is usually in line with the rest of the game and it tends to make sense in the way in which you're being asked to specialize your character. Wizards do wizard-like things to specialize in their wizarding, for example.

In POE, though, there's this extra process that you're intended to go through that is supposed to make you "special" in some way, except that it's more limiting than the regular passive tree and everybody follows that same process, no matter how they're planning to specialize their character. Apparently everybody's training to be a fucking emporer in POE and competence is shown in part by navigating a set of platform mini-game activities, instead of the more usual, straightforward trial-by-combat or some demonstration of wisdom and intelligence, both of which are probably far more closely connected to actually being a good emporer.

All of this really emphasizes what a "special" process picking your character's specialization is in POE.
Now that prestige classes will finally leave lab in 4.0, will GGG get it right this time or will they find new ways to repeat old mistakes?
