Customizable NPC group followers - For the solo players
|
It would be great if we could actually level, gear up and customize NPC party members.
This could be done simply by letting us group with our other created characters or via NPC's for hire sort of thing. Guild Wars did this and I loved it. Groups are fickle things: - some people run ahead - some people melt your screen - some people don't contribute - some people make it so you can't see wth is going on the screen - etc Solve this by letting players build and customize their own NPC groups. If you wanted to go that extra mile, make the user able to switch between the NPC's and his own selected character. So in essence you could take over the skills and fight with any of the characters. I think this would bring new life to the game. TRUE FACT

Would be great for not having to wait for people to join your group or trying to find a group doing what you are doing.... or solo players for that matter.
I don't think GGG would be ok with doing this as I believe they want as much social interaction as possible. (social interaction is the only reason I can see for keeping trading how it is... even though its just "hey this for this" "sounds good" "ty, have a good one" and trade is done) If npc party member did become a thing, I have an idea" Allow the player to use a mirror to copy another players stats/skills onto an item created by the mirror. (right click mirror in inventory, left click player to copy, mirror is replaced by item to be used in npc party member crafting) npc party member created with the mirror would then have the same weapons/armour and gems socketed. An ally created in this way could not have there gear changed or there gems switched. All stats on the npc party member created with the mirror would be at 60-80% of the original character that was mirrored. |

" if they do then the game won't last because once people get a taste of group play and see what happens they quickly loose interest in group play I can't count how many times I've died because some idiot opened a box before we were ready or some CoC goof melted the screen and nobody could see anything and the result was death Group play is ok until you hit mid level and when you need help in Act 4 but a mentioned it usually results in death, lag or DC so I prefer to stay away from it as much as possible The only real way for me to stay interested beyond new gems to mess with is to add NPC groups which would extend the replay ability and lifetime of the game for me TRUE FACT

Yeah, I agree.... currently in area's with a flashy mob or a coc/discharge build my fps drops below 5.... even solo during the last boss of act 4 I get 1-3fps average. Npc party members would have to be able to use low lag attacks/spells and during times when you decide to group with other players either not be usable or take up a party member slot.... imo.

Throne of Darkness (Diablo 2, the samurai version) had this, including different tactical battle options/position. It was pretty cool but after a while, I stuck with one setup since it was kinda tedious to always arrange your bunch before fights.
Unfortunately, mercenaries & co are burried deep, deep in the "cool stuff we'd love to do whenever" pile. Exit, pursued by a Plummeting Ursa.

Guild Wars had a decent version of this idea. It's not new. Nor it is wanted here. I don't want the balance of play to be based on a team effort. I'd quit.
