Jeweller's Orb- Comes with links or ONLY adds sockets?

lets say i have a great high lvl armor that is 4L now.
if i use Jeweller's Orb to get 6S, are the links random? or will i keep the 4L and the 2S might or might not be linked? |

you will most likely lose that 4L before you will get a 6S, IF you will ever get it.

It is random, you can the sockets linked or not linked by using Jeweller's Orb.

Jeweller can give and take links as well.
I've had boots with 1 socket. Used a jeweller, got 4 sockets and 2 of them were linked already |

Can any item have the max number of sockets for that item, no matter what its ItemLevel?

ilvl 50+ for 6 sockets
also yes jewlers can give links but i dont think it's even possible that you would ever get 5 or 6 links from using it, most i've seen is one link on say a 6 socket 3 times, never two links to the same sockets IGN @TiznaraN

" Nope, there are required item level for differing number of sockets. I beleive these are the item levels required for the number of sockets, but I may be off slightly. 1 socket : 1 2 sockets: 1 3 sockets: 15 1h weapons, shields, and everything below 4 sockets: 28 helmet, gloves, boots and everything below 5 sockets: 35 2h weapon and body armor 6 sockets: 50 2h weapon and body armor Hope this helps |
