Is it worth chancing, and what to chance?
Hi there
With the current inflation in standard I'm wondering whether it's worth chancing stuff. I guess the Gavel and prophecy wand are the ones to go for as they don't require linking But is it worth it, given the current lower prices of uniques. Are there other items to chance? Or should I just collect chances and sell en masses for ex? How many chances would it take to hit a unique? (Roughly) Any advice welcomed. Tyvm Turnip |

Chances are my favorite orb. I play solo/self-found so they're a gateway to uniques that I doubt I would find using the regular drop mechanics.
My claim to fame is that the first try for an Alpha's Howl worked... one chance was all it took. Currently trying to chance an Marohi Erqi. I'd put the chances at about 1 in 500. Last edited by Shagsbeard#3964 on Oct 12, 2015, 1:56:01 PM

I don't know enough to say if it's worth it, but chancing is definitely a big part of my plan for my goals in the game.
So I actually have a question, which was asked and answered on a Reddit thread, but I can't help but doubt it. Can you chance a base item with an iLevel below that of the required level for the unique and still roll it? (They said you could) |

" As far as I know, you can. About chancing, I'd advise you not to rely on it unless you have thousands of chance orbs. If you're going for a t1 unique, think of chance orbs the same way you would think of fusings if you're attempting a six-link. You have to be realistic about these things.

Thanks for the response! And the advice - nowhere near that quantity, so strategies should be adjusted. :)

I've never chanced a unique, but I pick up every imperial bow, judgement staff, occultist vestament, prophecy wand, and gavel that I find. I carry a stack of chances in my inventory and when the item inevitably turns blue or yellow I just toss it on the ground (i only do unid recipes). I used to collect Agate amulets but I gave up on that after doing 18 portals worth with full inventory each time in warbands. Now i just collect agate amulets and try to sell them white lol.
Not sure how many attempts ive made so far, but it's a lot. So I guess I could say not worth, and by the time I hit something valuable I'll probably have spent more in chance orbs than if I had just traded them up to exalts at this rate. I've used countless amounts of chance orbs and not 1 single unique aside from a Kaom's Strongbox which didn't count for the achievement. Granted I'm only going for things I deem are worth chancing like prophecy wands, agate amulets, leather belts and certain strongboxes. Before 2.0 was only chancing gavels and agates but with the troll gavel it just doesn't seem worth trying for mjolner especially since the price tanked.
IMO if you're gonna gamble, go big or go home. :)
In case you're wondering which strongboxes to chance...
Regular strongboxes, armourers, jewelers and cartographers each have a unique variant.
@Shaihalud222: ilvl does not matter in regards to chance orbs. Just a lowly standard player. May RNGesus be with you.

" Is the self-found just due to not really enjoying trading, or is it a strictly self imposed limitation? Marohi Erqi is a basically worthless unique now (the cheapest one available at the moment from a currently online trader is 10 alts), so unless you get it within the first 2 or 3 chances, you're wasting currency. I had been using chance orbs to try to get uniques, but after the frustration of hundreds of failures, I've just started converting them into scouring orbs (Catarina trade), and will probably eventually turn them into regrets (leo trade, once I get him to level 6). With both of their trade ratios, each regret orb is only 5.12 chance orbs. At current exchanges, that's about 100 chance orbs per exalted. This seems preferable to gambling with them, especially when the rewards of these gambles are tumbling in price. |

Heh. I only ever chanced a unique in an Endless Ledge race (I think I ended up with a Wurm's Molt). At last I got the Achievement to show for it. =^[.]^=
