Pantanos' Max Phys Mitigation Iron Will Incinerator
Hey Guys,
i recently made, after finishing more or less with SC version of the onemonth league, a build to be able to clear Endgame Maps in Hardcore with the special challenges the Flashback-League throws at us. Im not quite there yet, just reached lvl 79 and only did low maps so far, but i had such a blast in these few days, I decided to share early. Maybe some of you want to try it out. _________________________________________________________________________________ Defensive Philosophy:

Main goal of this character was to be as tanky as possible while preserving enough damage to clear high content in reasonable time.
What are main threats in current Flashback-Leagues? For me it was hard hitting phys or chaos mobs. So the first goal of this build was to reach a as high as possible physical mitigation. Natural choice nr. 1 was stacking Endurance Charges. These give 4% Phys. Damage reduction per Charge. So with 7 Charges up all the time, we have already 28% phys mitigation. We want to get this as high as possible, just a little reminder : on 75% mitigation we get around half the damage we get on 50% mitigation (a normal armour only value). on 90% mitigation (its capped at 90%) we get only 1/5 of the damage we would get on 50% Mitigation (armour calc doesnt work exactly like this, but as a rough estimate its ok, if you want to know more about armour in POE: http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Armour) our goal should be to reach the 90% or get as close as possible. So our next natural choices are armour, the "Soul of Steel"- Node, that offers beside 30% increased armour another 4% Phys Damage Red.) and of course the Chaos golem (another 4%) EC 28% SoS 4% Chaos Golem 4% These sum up to 36%, so if we want to reach the 90% cap we need at every level 54% mitigation from armour. This isnt a value too far off. _________________________________________________________________________________ Offensive Philosophy

I really didnt want to create a Tank, that cant handle Stuff himself, so i wanted to have some offense to handle things. Dead Mobs dont hurt that much anymore.
We are already forced to go in the area between Marauder and Duelist for Soul of Steel, so going Melee would have been an option. But i didnt think i would have enough skill points for enough melee nodes to make it work, so i needed something that would work out with less points. So i chose Incinerate as a skill, because it is quite easy to get some Damage on it with low investment into it. I thought about Totems, but we dont have the points to go for Ancestral Bond, so we have to go SelfCast. Because we are able to get alot of Strength Iron Will is natural Choice. Incinerate got very High Mana Demands and again we have to choose that Option to sustain Casting, that needs less Points, and as it happens to be Blood Magic is just around the Corner and even offers juicy Lifenodes on the top. Going for BM prevents us from using Auras (so Determination is no Option in future) but it enables us to use the Jewel Clear Mind. It is highly recommended to use this Jewel with this Build because it ramps up your Damage due to offering some Increased Spell Damage we dont have on our Tree. _________________________________________________________________________________ Endgame Tree (leveling trees yet to add)
Spoiler
So after clearing out what we are aiming for, tinkering out a tree didnt take too much time
I went for this one: http://poeurl.com/zA4CrHh You will have problems with getting enough Dex and Int while leveling (you can level as Incinerator without much problems, going flame totems etc option like always, i didnt) So as you can see i did some strange routing to get more attribute Nodes. If you manage to get enough Dex and Int from gear later, you can spec out of it, but remember you really want some Str on it too. _________________________________________________________________________________ Gear:

You get alot of Ele Res from Tree and of course End. Charges, so you dont need to much from gear. Concentrate on maxing out life from gear and get some chaos Res. Yes you have plenty room on gear to cap Chaos later on. This gets me to the second defensive goal i had, being able to mitigate Chaos Damage from eg. Beyond Bosses. Beside needed Dex+Int (Amu is a good place to solve this, we need as much Str. we can get! Get some Proj. Speed on your weapon! i got 40% on mine and its just wonderful, because we dont have too much on tree. Use a pure armourshield, good rares a often cheap, and they offer huge amount of armour I advise you , at least early on, to get a Armour/ES hybrid Chest, because its alot easier to get the right colours on it. You dont need any fancy and expensive uniqs. If you have the currency to get some, you probably know which would be suitable _________________________________________________________________________________ Gem Setup:

Inc - GMP/LMP - Fast. Cast. - Spell Echo - Iron Will
get your 5 link as soon as possible, they are dirt cheap, just invest some chaos you get from Chaos Recipe as soon as you can do it (item level 60) As long as you dont have it, drop Spell echo or faster Casting. Give your Chaos Golem some Supports : Chaos Golem - Minion Life - Minion + Totem Ele Resistance It gives you the final 4%, he is like a 8th End Charge, make sure he lives before tough fights Put it in your weapon. Its the only Place you get very easy 3 blues The Rest is to your Choice, CwdT setups etc is matter of choice i do not want to take from you. Its not needed for the Build to work. _________________________________________________________________________________ Bandits

Spoiler
Short answer Enduring Cry. Your Charges have a Duration of 16s. Its not too much asked to use End Cry every 10-15 secs. You get used to it very fast. Link it to Increased Duration. It wont lenghten your charges, but it lenghtens the time you get extra life regen from it. Its a nice bonus. expecially in tough situations.

Spoiler
Of course not. If you play really bad you still die. But you can play quite bad and still live :D Nullifiers are your nemesis. Be careful with these. They steal your charges in split second and make you vulnerable. Hard hitting Ele Mobs are dangerous too, but not more dangerous in comparison to other build, you still have capped res. Keep up your charges and you will live

Spoiler
A lot of nice Situations. I pick just two favs. Facetanking 3 Beyond Bosses at once (think it were 2 Haasts and that Chaos Bow guy) in cowards trial. It was hard but i cleared that Map. Though it was quite cowardish to do so. I did it for science! :D
Next nice experience was a double Ghosted Haast in Dried Lake (i was on lvl 72 or something at that time). I cant say which Ghosts, but i facetanked him without dropping below 90% life I managed to keep my Phys Mit most of the times at 90% now at nearly lvl 80 it gets a bit harder (im around 85% atm), but i guess i could fix that with some Gear upgrades Had another Cowards Trial as Zana Daily today and it already went alot smoother even than before. Im looking into adding a video of a run of this particular map in the future, because it showcases the strenghts of this build. For a lot of builds even this run of this low maps with beyond bosses would be too dangerous to do it in a HC enviroment. _________________________________________________________________________________ Defensive stats ATM:

This is just a quick idea, i will hopefully have time to improve this little Guide over time and add some more videos and stuff. I will try to answer all questions if they come up Cheers Pantanos Last edited by Pantanos#3518 on Oct 13, 2015, 6:34:04 AM

I made a build similar to this in Tempest.
got 6 endurance charges and went up witch side of the tree for more damage instead of the 7th charge. I also didn't get BM so i was using Determination + AA and linked BM gem instead. Tree looked like this One of the tankiest caster builds i ever played. What you should mention is Lightning Thorns, it'll kill you in a split second if you're not careful, which goes for all Incinerate builds. Thats what got me. |

" yeah i guess so, didnt notice ligh thorns in particular as dangerous, but as you can see in the video, you do feel any elemental reflect.but not more to be in itself really dangerous.ligh thorns maybe add the problem that you can shock yourself. will watch out for these and test what they do to me |
