Noob can't kill Piety, help me understand why

Character: https://www.pathofexile.com/account/view-profile/nReCon/characters

In Act 4 during the quest "The Eternal Nightmare" you have to kill Piety and I've been struggling really bad on this.

I keep dying over and over again and basically he does so much damage to me. I use my Enduring Cry and pop my granite flask and health pot and by this point I'm already atleast at 50% hp.

With Enduring Cry all my resists except chaos are maxed at 75% and my HP should be high enough from what I've seen in streams.

Please help me figure out why I'm dying so fast. Am I missing some super important skill or link or is my gear just really bad ? I've been trying to stack phys dmg, max life and resists.

In-case I find better gear:
Level on Piety attempt was 57 and HP was 3639 and resists without Enduring Cry (F: 64%, C: 89%, L: 67%, Chaos: -13%), Armor 2055 (Estimate Phys Reduction: 39%), unbuffed.

By your post I assume that you are facetanking her. Is there any particular reason you're not using a Quicksilver flask or a movement skill (Such as Flame Dash) to avoid the damage of the beam?

The beam does 50% physical 50% lightning, if I have to guess it's the part that hurts you the most. Avoid that and you should be fine.
Her beam attack will one shot you regardless of how well you're geared. This game isn't like diablo 3 where difficulty is artifical and simply based on gear walls, you actually have to avoid stuff. Use flasks to keep your health topped off, don't stand in the lightning balls she shoots out but don't be afraid to run through them either, they do a lot of damage over time but not too much if you're just passing through.

Stay close to Piety because her beam attack is easier to dodge the closer you are (geometry). Basically when she starts that up you just run in a circle, staying ahead of the beam, and using any abilities you're able to without getting caught. Generally it's a good idea to use this time to pop your warcries or other buffs/curses.

Once she stops using the beam then go back to killing her. If you have low AOE then you'll need to make sure you're killing the eyeball generators as they appear or you'll get overwhelmed later on.

Also, it's generally best not to stand in the red lightning orbs of death, and leaving more than one Eye spawner active is a very bad idea. Take your time to avoid her attacks.

Might be worth rerolling your Quicksilver or Granite to Staunching; preferrably the Quicksilver so your Granite can roll Iron Skin instead. Staunching is probably the most important modifier a Flask can have, Bleed is one of the few effective attrition methods.
Oh I'm using a Quicksilver pot too and whenever the beam shows up I just run around the boss until it goes away but frequently the stupid amount of adds that he spawns gets in the way and makes me auto-attack instead of running and even if I don't stop and auto-attack most of the time he beam is back within seconds and that only allows me 1 hit on the boss if I'm lucky.

And even when the beam is gone I have a hard time out healing the incoming damage from all the adds hitting the boss hitting and his giant balls of damage everywhere.

Life pots being used are Hallowed with 23% ele resist, Sanctified with +20 charges and 70% armor.

@Nasreth, I didn't know about the eyeball generator thing, this will help thanks :)

Sounds like your build doesn't have enough AOE to deal with the eyes. You have to kill the little towers that spawn them so that you don't get overwhelmed. Alternatively, add an increased area of effect gem to your ice crash link and melee physical damage or weapon elemental damage as well.

edit: you're welcome, glad to help. it's a tough fight but once you understand the mechanics it gets a lot easier. if it makes you feel any better, act 1 cruel is a lot easier than act 4 normal.

I killed Cruel Piety with < 60% in all resist, 1700hp, 1.6k dps and not even died once (and zero portal used!!!) at lv 50-ish as a melee char. Sure I have a bit of armor,10k ish, and can block (don't think you can block her beam or her AOE) but I am sure it is not the main key to survival here. As a lot of people mentioned before here are the main tips:

1) Don't be greedy! Wait for an opening and land a few hits and get ready to run. Sure it doesn't sound as heroic but... If you time it right you can do some damage without get damage at least in the first half of the fight before more AOE stuff show on screen. GTFO before she starts sweeping you with the beam and if you see those red AOE orb around, just stop attacking and move.

2) Movement, movement, movement! If you have no movement skills you are pretty much dead for this fight. Whirling Blade, Leap and Flame Dash (with fast casting) are the 3 best skill against her imo. You will need that not much for the rotating beam (if you need that you probably doing something wrong since with only 20% movement boost I can out-run the beam in circle not even using quicksilver flask). I found the movement skill is better for avoiding the big red AOE thingy and I used flame dash for my char with 0.75s casting time which is pretty slow. I am use Whirling Blade is much fast but it was a FB build so I can't use any movement skills that requires a weapon.

3) Do not let her move to the wall. I found that if you stay away from the wall she will stay away from the wall. Some range builds try to play safe and stick to the wall and that is where you get trapped.

4) Practice practice practice. Before you go fight her in Cruel or Merc, go back and fight her in Normal but try not to attack. Just learn to dodge her attacks and learn to time her attack. When you think you got the timing and movement it will suddenly become much easier.

IMO if they make Piety's beam rotation direction random the fight would be a whole lot more challenging.. even more challenging if the rotation speed changes. After you learned the pattern the fight became kinda dull...

Thanks this is great information, I'm gonna hit level 58 and then give it another try (I gave up after it crashed mid-fight).
Here's how I handle the fight:

1) Get a feel for the timing of the beams. I don't know if it's an exact timer, but they come pretty regularly. Watch for her to face a random direction, which is when the beam will start.

2) #1 priority between beams is to kill the nests that spawn adds. Most of the adds themselves should die from AoE skills. Get some damage on Piety as well if you can, but it isn't important now.

3) When you see the beam coming, get right next to her and start circling. At melee range it is very easy to outpace the beam, and I use this time to get most of my damage on Piety. Movement skills and/or increased movement speed are helpful here, but not mandatory.

Apparently she can walk her way over to a wall making it impossible to dodge the beam. I've never even seen her move myself, but if this happens you should probably just reset.

I've only died once on this fight, and that was because I misclicked and ran the wrong way around Piety, straight into the beam.

You should change the setting of left click (on your mouse) to move only. The default setting is auto attack, that is why you keep stopping to attack enemies. And as others have mentioned you definitely need a staunching flask. You should also have a flask to remove frozen and chill at this point in the game. If you have to, run through the circles on the ground to avoid the laser. They don't deal a lot of damage as long as you get through them quickly. Also, a topaz flask of stuanching is really useful for this fight if you can get one.
