Erasmus, the Imperial Gemcutter, is an old master gemcutter I had GGG invent for us. I instantly liked him when he appeared, and I have hopes this is not the last we'll hear of him. When you read the flavour text it's very important that you read it in the Templar's voice, because. ;)

I was interested about either a Headhunter (as for me it's the funniest item in the game) or something more common.

Two reasons made me retract from the Headhunter idea :

-It's a really popular item, and i was sure someone would do a card for it at some point. I was right as there's already 2 of them i think at this point.
-I'm one of the unluckiest person when it comes to RNG so i was afraid i would never had the pleasure of dropping my own card ever ^^

That's why i chose to do a prismatic ring card.

I always liked this base item as it's usefull on every characters people do.

I always alch two stone rings and transform them into prismatics when they roll bad. I then trade 5 of them into a new one when they are terrible.

I wanted to make a card for a legacy version of the rings (10% to 12% AR implicit) but GGG said it was not possible. A live version is fine still.

The reasonning is : No Item level so the item can be used either while levelling or you can choose to keep the cards and turn them into rings later to have higher rolls.
It's common enough to be able to get one in a reasonnable amount of time without having to commit too long for it.
The drop rate of the card is not rare as it's a white base without any guaranted stats. You still have to alch the ring.

The flavor text is just a little fun story i tried to tell. My english isn't good enough, so i wrote something that GGG helped me turn into a more "poetic" sentence. A poor guy put all is soul into the craft of a prismatic ring for his future wife and got stomped by a rhoa on his way home.

I wanted an item to be considered as a little bonus while farming/leveling, so i hoped it would drop in a common area like Ledge or Aquaduct. The Rhoa story background made GGG to put it in Mud Flats + Fetid Pool wich is really cool.
As i explained in a thread somewhere, i really like farming Mud Flats as it provides a really good density of things to do/get. Lots of lockboxes, masters, corrupted areas and occasionnal feathers to keep the fun active. Now with a card i consider useful that drops there it's even better :) . I hope every areas could have this kind of activity density.

Now that it's up in a news post, I figured I should write up about my experience being a Highgate supporter, and the theme behind my card.

The actual experience was awesome. I filled out the form with what I was going for, picked the item, and got several prompt replies, leading up to the flavor text being finalized and sent off to have the art done. I felt like I was treated well and there was no urgency or rush to just knock the card out and move on to the next one.


As for why this particular unique and theme? Well, that's a longer story.


Last summer I discovered that I have an enlarged aortic root, along with having Marfan Syndrome. I don't show the typical signs of someone with Marfan Syndrome, besides being tall and near sighted, so I slipped past being diagnosed with it until I went and saw a cardiologist for an unrelated issue. My aortic root was extremely dilated, at a size of 5.2 cm. Due to this and having Marfan Syndrome, I had to undergo heart surgery to avoid having an aortic dissection, or god forbid, an aortic burst.

I ended up having a new procedure done in the U.K. called PEARS, which stands for Personalized External Aortic Root Support. Instead of removing my aortic root and replacing it with an artificial one, they took measurements via a CT scan and 3D printed a mesh to fit around it instead, to support it and keep it from growing any larger.

Needless to say, I was terrified of this, and the months leading up to the surgery are some of the hardest in my life. I found all this out when I had just graduated from university and was about to start working full time, and this led to it being extremely difficult to focus on work; being a programmer, my output at work slowed down quite a bit.

I had my surgery on April 20th, 2015. I woke up to the troubling news that during my surgery, my ascending aorta had dissected and needed to be replaced; they still managed to fit the mesh over my aortic root, so I still get to have my original root in place. I was pretty zonked on what would be considered a "heroic dose" of morphine and anesthetics, so the next few hours were a blur. The next day, during the afternoon, I started feeling intense pain in my legs. It turns out that after being replaced, my aorta continued to dissect all the way down to where your aorta splits off to send blood flow to your legs.

I came fairly close to needing more high risk surgery, but thankfully my blood flow improved enough overnight to avoid needing that. My recovery has been long and hard, much harder than it would be if I had just had the surgery with no complications; my chest has fully healed and no longer hurts, and has a pretty wicked scar. I can do almost everything I did before on a day to day basis, besides a full grocery trip; I can walk maybe a quarter mile before I need to sit down again, and my legs start to feel the burn after only 50-100 steps. I've only got 60% of my original blood flow going to my legs, and it definitely shows.

I truly have a corrupted heart, just like Kaom, and what better way to commemorate such a terrifying life event than to get to add my own little bit to my favorite game?

I've always been a big fan of claws, especially elemental claws. Most of my builds are mana intensive, so when the Gemini Claw was introduced I was excited. The implicit of +14 life/mana on hit is what inspired the card art, along with the name. Gemini=Twins for all you non-astrologers out there. The tattered garbs of the girls are obviously colored to represent these 2 resources as well. The in-game 3d art of the claw is even derived from the Gemini symbol that I posted above; it's 2 crescents intertwined.

The flavor text is a haiku (5/7/5) that my friend wrote in college for an English composition class; she passed away 3 years ago. She was a Gemini too, we were very close. Using the orb girls was a no-brainer for me; it symbolized our friendship, that the girls so lovingly embraced our mana and life orbs; the Gemini claws implicit fills our orbs.

I had originally asked for T1 phys damage, but this makes the card very rare, and leaves no diversity. T1 attack speed makes the card more common, and appeals to both physical and elemental builds.

Process was relatively painless; GGG does a great job of getting back with you pretty quick and are as accommodating as they can be I think. Thanks again to Shaun, Gary, Tom, Eban, MikeP, etc.
