The Closed Beta of The Awakening is live!

Seriously, do some people understand the concept of a beta model? It seems that many either view it as a simple game extension they can leap into and have fun via all the new content without realizing how buggy it might all be, don't give a crap about the notion of actually helping GGG test out the new environment with feedback, or are simply looking for an advantage over others by gaining valuable insights on the content before it finally gets a proper and official release.

As for the notion that people have set up multiple accounts to try and rort the system, I'd think GGG would stay on top of such an obvious ploy via identical ISP addresses - I hope! I have a dozen or so accounts that I used a while back to stash stuff (don't bother any more as I have more than enough stash tabs now on my main account) and it would never have occurred to me to try and use them to stack the odds of getting an invite. I know it sounds naive, but it would be a cheat to me, not only with the game but with other players - like RMT. One entry is enough, and if I get in great, if not I'm fine with that too, especially as I think there'll be some work involved with the process.

For a change of subject, could one of the people who did get in at least post the rest of us a picture of the provisional new skill tree!? I've yet to see one anywhere yet.

I don't get why we have to wait for a stupid timer to get invites one by one. Why can't everybody just select what part of the game they want to play - stay on 1.3 or play beta, if they want. More people more feedback. I don't know about you, but I don't want to (and won't) play 1.3 with so many changes and new cool stuff out there...

this is extremely upsetting, was hoping to test stuff out. This feels very unfair for those who have invested a lot into path of exile not to get to play simply because we aren't marketing the game further for them on twitch, o well.

Makes PERFECT sense, lets give beta access to someone who doesn't even log in or play the game. Looks like D3 it is until Act4.

because if they open the flood gates they will have no way to manage their sever load, so it would just result in endless crashes and render the whole beta unplayable.

We want to experience a good game and don't want to die to desync and other stuff all the time so a closed beta is just fine!

Eh, I think the problem is they hyped up the beat with all those infos, countdown and all, despite knowing only a handful of the playerbase will actually get to participate in it. Lot's of people don't want to get spoiled (I'm sorta one of them), so watching streams is not really an option (though I never watch streams either).
They could've done the whole thing without the whole build up and whatnot. Wondering if they can get the hype up again for the real release, if people already know of everything that's to come.
I guess at least we'll know about the newest fotm-go-to builds, now that they changed up some established mechanics.
