What is the difference between jewel base types?
There will be multiple types of jewel base : crimson,cobalt,viridian...
But other than their names/colors vary, i dont see any difference. In the skill tree the jewel sockets arent colored, you can put them any kind of jewel. D3 treasure goblins's escape portal is an entrance to Wraeclast

Hopefully the base type (crimson=str, cobalt=int, viridian=dex) limits the affix pool.
Based on just the affixes we have seen the pool for all gems will be pretty insane if all gems can roll any affix. It will put rolling things like amulets or wands to shame. edit: actually I might be right. Look at the awakening page. The red jewel gets mace and melee bonus while the blue gets rarity and es on hit. Both gems have things you would associate with that alignment. Last edited by Splift#4377 on Apr 17, 2015, 8:07:31 AM

it is probably for their affix pool , if it was not i am sure we would not be able to see jewels like 18% phys damage 4% attack speed in a magic jewel or 4 of 4 caster mods in a rare one. Some mods maybe possibly roll in all of them tho
