Lead Dev Chris Wilson walks us through the new build as we play it!

Grinding Gears lead dev Chris Wilson was nice enough to do a Q&A as we play the new build and explain some of the changes and what is next for the game.

Kudos for Chris for staying and answering everyone's questions on the stream.
We'd like to hear what you think of what he had to say.

Oh BTW we will be giving a couple beta keys away to people who post constructively on this thread :)

Thanks for sharing. Will be watching and so far from the looks of things GGG really improved the game!

As I am new posting to this forum, I don't know if this has been discussed already, but I have to say that the way the team is implementing hardcore mode is very interesting. As someone who intends on playing hardcore mode exclusively, I like this idea as I know I will be deleting my character when it reverts to normal mode, but I can also at least get my buddies to try out this mode with me without that risk of completely losing their characters.

It seems that GGG is doing a marvelous job of making this game very conducive to community formation and making it something that will appeal to many different tastes. Though I'm not in the beta, it's seems like the PoE community is mature and very helpful, and that's certainly refreshing.

I can't remember the last time I was this excited to play a game. Thanks for the Q&A - a lot of great answers.

I wish I had some constructive comments, but to be honest - after watching hours of footage, the game truly looks like its turning out to be exactly what I've been waiting for.

I guess if I could comment on anything, it would be on inventory 'auto' sorting - as in, if I pick something up and there's room in my inventory, just that items are not compacted properly, will it rearrange things to make it fit, or do you have to do it yourself?

I'll be editing this post later, but just wanted to jot some things down before I forgot.

The game is so far looking amazing. As the above poster said, I can't remember being this excited to playing a game in a long time; and I spend a LOT of time browsing through both free to play and pay to play games that look like they have any promise to them.

-I'm not sure if this was addressed in the latest patch, but was a function added so that right-clicking on a piece of gear would automatically equip it instead of having to drag it into the correct slot?

-From the gameplay videos I've watched so far, the majority of gameplay appears to be continuously mowing down large groups of mobs by spamming AoE skills. Additionally, most "boss" fights appeared fairly easy, just spamming skills and potions. Perhaps increasing the potion cooldown time would make it more challenging?

-The map overlay seems a bit hard to see in bright areas, is there any way to increase the contrast on it?

Great interview!

Many thanks to Chris, who was characteristically friendly and informative (and it turns out he has a subtle sense of humor, too).

I picked out two particularly useful nuggets from this interview:

*The lowest item level to spawn six sockets is 50

*Segregated LAN play is being considered as a "for pay" option

And, no, I dun need a key, obviously. Good luck to posters on the thread who do! =^[.]^=

There's no autosorting feature. Players need to manage their inventory manually. This feature may be added at some point though it would be a very low priority.

I believe there's a feature like this in the works.

Obviously, the balance is still getting worked on. Significant changes come through with pretty much every patch.

The transparency of the overlay map can be adjusted. More work is planned to make the feature more useful.

I have noticed in numerous videos that item drops from mob kills seem common, and most are left to rot on the ground. Will this drop rate be turned down at some point? And if not, is there a function to set item names to transparent, or a fade to transparency after X amount of seconds? Having items names clutter the playfield is somewhat of a detractor to the visuals.

Will there be a way to expand your carrying capacity or increase inventory space at some point? I like the fact changes were made to the random drop system to increase the exploration of content. That is a huge plus over a lot of other games, where farming is the only way to gear up. It would be nice to carry a bit more to limit the need to travel back to town as much.
