Lvl 29 Active Gems

It is possible to roll a +2 elemental gems roll and a +1 to all gems roll on a Catarina staff/scepter, as such, with a corrupted active and empower, wouldn't a level 29 gem be possible? And if so, would it be worth using the other prefix slot for it? I know you would be losing a lot of spell damage, but for some skills would the gem level beat it out?

as far as I remember there have a discussion months ago saying that poison arrow is one of those who can get huge benefit on higher gem level.

+3 empower
possible corrupted poison arrow which is lv21

Which is lv27...

Level 21 Gem through corruption
+1 from Paragon's -> 22
+2 from Lava Caller etc. -> 24
+5 from level 4(+2) corrupted empower with Catarina's mod and paragon's

-> 29?

I think SRS would be digging that... (could still roll cast speed, mana regen, x as suffixes).

Catarina's mod is +1 to lvl of support gems, aka empower which adds +1 to the active, also corrupting the empower adds another +1, thus lvl 29. Not 100% sure Catarina can sell bows though, would be nice.

In general, each level is worth 9% more damage than the one that came before. Multiply how much you're getting and compare it to what you're losing to see if it's a good deal.

If you have 400% spell power, that means 2 levels is worth:

1.09 ^ 2 = 1.1881
0.1881 * 500 = 94.05

94% increased spell damage. There's a reason everyone defaults to crit.

Thus the post. Would the other +1 level from catarina's mod be worth it for certain spells, and if so, what, srs seems like a nice choice, and was wondering if there were any others.

I have only seen cata mod on 3 or 4 link items. Helms can roll +2 minion but their ilvl is not enough to roll it alongside the cata mod.


A wand can roll +2 gems and +1 gem alongside a cata mod but it will only be 3l. So empower skill gem and 1 support as opposed to a 5 or 6l without the cata mod.

Imo its not worth it for a main attack gem like srs or any spell for that matter but it might be cool for a herald or an aura or blood rage or something along those lines
