PoE needs more US server locations: US East and US West
Before posting, I found this thread here, but rather than gravedig, I figured I'd make a new post:

Sometimes as high as 200ms for extended periods of time (hours/days). Usually it floats between 110ms and 175ms. Very little jitter/variance. Most of this latency is in the Softlayer network. Softlayer is the hosting provider that POE uses in the USA. Their server cluster is in/near Dallas TX USA. https://www.softlayer.com/press/release/1941/softlayer-now-powers-online-games-for-more-than-100-million-players So, no matter where you are in the USA, you have to go to Texas. Apparently they have no other servers in/near the US. Depending on the route taken, I can get down to 40ms to the Dallas area for other websites/servers. But, in this case, my packets go into the Softlayer transport network pretty early, and apparently their networks between here and Denver and Denver to Dallas have some serious saturation problems, resulting in some pretty bad desync. It probably doesn't help that I play Ranger. The reality is that GGG probably can't afford more servers/manpower for the number of paying customers they have, but if they could, I would tell them that they should really consider setting up a cluster somewhere on the east and west coast. Los Angeles is good for the west coast, and VA/NJ for east. Latency matters for a game like this, and unfortunately, the US internet backbone isn't as great as it should be in that regards. Also,.... Softlayer/IBM. They charge premium rates for competitive-average servers. If you have in-house sysadmin talent, you could have really done better. GGG, please consider in the future setting up a US West and US East cluster to compliment or replace your US South-Central servers. This thread has been automatically archived. Replies are disabled.

As your post kinda hits on, routing is more important than physical location. I live in Los Angeles and my latency is almost always between 40 and 50. I have two guildies in Albuquerque that are on different ISPs. One's latency is usually 60 to 60 and the other's 70 to 80. (we always check out latency when we start our weekly party and before boss fights).

" Wow, that does sound pretty bad. I don't know which server cluster you would need to be connecting to. Do they have one in Australia? Island nations have some particularly interesting issues when it comes to Internet access. Ironically, it's often easier to get access to them rather than land-locked countries/states due to land use rights. Just have to worry about those anchor dragging frigates. |

I play with 250 ping on Yuropoor servers while being a proud and free AMERICAN on bloodlines for hours at a time and it is honestly not a problem.
It's not like dota 2 were you need perfect timing to execute a last hit. It's just spamming spells 90% of the time especially in parties it gets even more dumbed down.
