combat log

PvP in PoE is a bit hit and miss for me. On rare occasions the character I have spent a great deal of time levelling up, loving, and basically playing PoE for - I get some even and balanced PvP with. I don't really subscribe to the PvP cookie cutter builds because I employ the fact that PoE is extremely customizable, and diverse, and makes it what it is.

BUT..

There seems to be a 'trend' towards certain builds on the PvP scene that completely and utterly trivialize any strengths I would consider to be an asset with my character. I would love to get a rolling combat text, or some kind of combat log that I can analyse, and see WHY someone was able to effectively either 1 shot me from off screen, or do some kind of hit and run that make me feel like a trivial creature from normals starting zone. I would like to know WHY I was one-shot. I want to know how someone was able to ignore 6k health, and trivialize 75% resistances. I'd like to see for myself how my health pool disintegrated with the aid of numbers.. how damage was catalogued against me and, most importantly allow me to analyse the data myself to understand HOW i'm getting so trivially busted and allow me to figure out on paper how to start to counter some of these appearingly god like setups out there.

Not going to bore folks with my details.. a hour in the arena would probably illustrate my point, but I'm not complaining about OP builds, just in need of combat logs so I can identify where I need to go to provide any kind of competition to these other super builds.

/salute
Trivialized your entire character? 6k HP 1 hit, felt like you were a normal difficulty white mob? Like having max resist means nothing. Like wearing gear did nothing but add weight. Like you need more HP...but its just never enough?

Xxxxx character was criticalled at 400-1000% normal DMG.

............welcome to high level PvP, its fucked up...enjoy your stay.

Honestly though it doesn't matter how good your character is. How perfect your build. How thought out your tree is or how great your gear may be. You can crunch numbers til you're dead, trying to min-max and try to keep up with the damage output so you live more hits. Doesn't matter, I've been there...trust me im like you. Critical will continue to make every effort you put into this worthless. So don't worry so much, maybe down the line when critical get toned down and PvP is about the better player/gear/tree. Then crunch numbers and perfect your stuff. GGG has stepped in to tone it down quite a bit but legacy crit gear still remains. We'd need a universal PvP critical damage reduction coded into the game. Like the 20% node near marauders, but just hard coded. If its already a thing, it needs to he higher.

Thanks MullaXul,

Your reply was actually close to what i was hoping. In the vain effort for me to write up a report to GGG and show logs, show combat text, and help realise what would make PvP more balanced than some specific builds ruling Wraeclast, I would love to assist.

Seems more 'fun' builds are trivial in PvP than i even realised, i watched my work colleague get walloped time and time and time again, by several characters (seemingly same kind of build) without being handed a bone, he actually has a fun decent pve build. We laughed at it, and his final comment before logging was "Well that was fun, dont think i'll be doing that again". it's not entirely the reaction GGG wanted from PvP i am certain, but it was his real reaction nethertheless.

Ok i'll leave it there, but food for thought. Still reassuring that it's not just me that is getting my ass handed to me looking like a real novice and left wondering if focused on the 'wrong' build.

:)

You guys may find low level dueling more enjoyable. 28 or 40, creativity is a bit more rewarding and its accessible. There's a lot of guys here that primarily low level PvP that could help you out. New crafting benches also cater to the lower levels quite well.

the current PVP state in HLD is that the dmg output u can stack is far higher than hp/es u can stack, hence its a better idea to invest in defenses that make you block/dodge all incoming dmg than to try to tank any part of it. There are specific builds that can tank a lot but its reserved mostly for Slay (EA tank).
In 1v1 vs phys crits its a decent idea to EC + echo and IC and then try to run your opponent down, retreat when phys immunity if over and repeat. Vs spell crit spell block via saffel (coz of +5 max res) + using the appropriate purity.

All of this wont help in FFA much, since in sarn there is a lot more chaos and a lot less smart play - so its dominated by flickers and punctures mostly.
