3 questions regarding ignite mechanics
Hi, I have three questions regarding ignite that I could not answer through the information provided on the wiki.
1. With the introduction of Forsaken Masters, Catarina offers a mod that does the following: "1% of Fire Damage Leeched as Life." I know a regular life leech gem will not work since the ignite isn't the actual hit, but how about a 'global' fire life leech like this mod or the one found on Doryani's Invitation? 2. When you have a x/20 Elemental Proliferation linked up to your skill that applies ignite, you gain 15% increased burn duration. This will leave you with a 4.6 second ignite. The wiki states your ignite does .2 of the original hit EVERY SECOND. Do I gain an additional tick that does 12% of the intial damage? Do I gain no additional damage at all unless I reach 5, 6 or 7 seconds? In other words, how does increased burn duration affect my ignite damage? 3. Does the notable Heart of the Flame's fire penetration affect ignite damage? Thanks in advance for any answers. |

1) No damage over time/degen cannot leech. (leech is an on hit effect, dots/degens don't hit)
2)I reads damage/second however it's a smooth degen effect, it doesn't deal all of the damage/sec at the 1/2/3 second marks, it deals 20% of the damage over 1 second. So any partial second from increased burn duration will deal an appropriate fraction of 20%. 3) As far as I can tell, fire pen from any source is an on hit effect, and ignite can't benefit directly from it. However the base fire damage(ignore this statement if the ignite is provided by Herald of Ash, or you are using Three Dragons) is still being effected and will indirectly effect the burn damage. |

"Leech is an on-hit affect. Degen does not hit, so it cannot apply. ""X damage per second" does not mean it waits a second and them does some damage - it's a rate at which damage is constantly dealt over the time. Just like how a car moving at "100km per hour" doesn't stay still for an hour and then teleport forwards 100km. The damage is constantly dealt over the whole time. The increase applies to the rate: just like if you increased the car's speed by 10%, and it's now smoothly moving at 100km/h, increasing the rate of damage over time applies the same way. "No. Penetration is an on-hit effect, it cannot apply to damage over time. It can apply to a hit which causes an ignite, which means the base ignite damage would be larger. " If a modifier was worded "Fire damage ignores x% of fire resistance", would that cause non-hit fire damage to penetrate fire resistance? Or would this still be bound by the hit mechanic? |

"It wouldn't penetrate if you're using that as the game term, because the term penetration is by definition referring to an on hit effect. Such a theoretical modifier should apply to degen, but that's entirely theoretical as such a modifier can't be made as its not supported by the game system, partially because no modifier of that nature can be made to work on degen that way, because degen can't be applied differently based on it's source.
