Yet another disciple of RNGesus
Disciple of RNGesus and SCIENCE that I am, I found ZiggyD's recent video glorious and inspiring and plan to follow in his footsteps shortly. Here are the rules he gave on his stream; I'm still deciding how to modify them, if at all:
Rules
This is a Path of Exile playthrough devoid of free will, you must leave everything to fate. The dice (or random.org) decides all! basic ruleset below!
- Random 1-7 for class - Random 1-26 for each letter of your name - Random each skill gem selection - Random 1 (yes) 2 (no) for if you have to use a skill gem that drops - Random 1 (yes) 2 (no) for if you can use a gear upgrade or not - Do your best to understand the will of RNGesus! In his video, he also randomizes between passive skill points, which I love. And I'll be doing it in hardcore, so if I can't make things work my character's death will be a clear sign that my devotion is insufficient. At which point I will start my journey anew! Other ways Ziggy randomizes, which I like: - If a base drops that you want to craft, roll 1 (yes) 2 (no) to see if RNGesus will allow it - When you get to a major boss (e.g. Brutus, Merv) roll between all of your active skills to see which one you are allowed to use Things we've added or clarified: - Randomizing the number of letters in the name (1-23) (I'll expand this as we go along) Frankly, I've been having a hard time balancing all the hype for 1.2-PoE with current-PoE: I've been finding it hard to maintain the same kind of enthusiasm that I'm used to, but (except on rare occasions) when I start playing another game I quickly itch for PoE again. This project, then, will sustain me until the new leagues hit--and, perhaps, grant me the favor of RNGesus. I'll stream some of it (twitch.tv/sayyadinaatreides) and post text updates on the rest. If you have any ways that I can better serve RNGesus, please let me know!
Attempt 1: Atylmtb the Witch
Check out the video This started out in a fairly mundane way. A beautiful +1 fire gems spirit shield dropped off of Hillock, but it was not meant to be. Atylmtb began her journey through Wraeclast wielding the powers of both fire and ice, freezing and burning all those who dared to stand in her way. Atylmtb had just received inspiration to begin the study of summoning (with RNGesus guiding her to Lord of the Dead and a Summon Skeletons gem) when, confined to freezing pulse and no portals in her final fight, she was Brutally murdered.
Attempt 2: Iofuncpu the Templar
Video of Part 1 RNGesus guided Iofuncpu (whose name may imply the future gift of a CoC gem) to begin his work with the liberal use of sparks, supported by sweep at close distances. The Machine God even permitted the crafting of +1 to Lightning Gems staff to better continue his work. The passive tree stayed wholly in the upper half, inspiring Iofuncpu to study well, devote himself to the power of the elements, and learn to bring ever more enemies into his path. RNGesus tested Iofuncpu's faith by constraining him to the use of sweep in the fight against Brutus; however, he was gracious enough to permit the use of portals to ease the trial. Iofuncpu shined in this challenge, and was rewarded with the gift of Glacial Cascade to handle future enemies. I'm working on resolving the choppiness visible in the stream (especially during the Brutus fights). Part 2 of Iofuncpu's journey will likely take place tonight or tomorrow, on stream and with updates to YouTube and this thread. Let me know if there's anything you think should be changed! Random 1(yes) 2 (no): if you can drink the purple-flavoured water or not

Your loss. It's DELICIOUS.
In all seriousness, I think the game has plenty to offer before resorting to these sorts of arbitrary 'life extenders'. That or a time-killer until 1.2.0. All in all, it reminds me of No Country For Old Men, and that amazing haircut. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

" I'd agree about what the game has to offer, but I've still been "itchy," for lack of a better word, the last week or so. I blame the incredible amount of hype GGG's been able to drum up for 1.2.0. In order to avoid being struck down, I will preface this by saying that I've been watching plenty of BSG lately. But.....I've never actually seen No Country for Old Men. *hides* "Nothing happened." - CharanJaydemyr, TheWretch

It was SUCH a great reference too. :( Pearls before Sayyadina and all that.
I'm not entirely sure if I believe in free will (apparently the term for where I stand is Soft Determinism, which means we get to choose the little things, but not the big ones, give or take), but I do believe in fully enjoying *whatever free will* we are given within any game's constraints. I would not have responded this way to anyone else's threat about this practice btw. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

" I think it's perfect as something fun for people who normally only play in the temp leagues and want something to kill time until the new ones start. Also a subtle shot at all the other people who always complain about how the game is too random. This shows just how much MORE random it could get. |
|
" Oh, aye, for sure. I just got weird flashes of Sayyadina in sacrificial robes and looking just like Lady Jessica from David Lynch's Dune in the throes of a Water of Life ecstasy, offering herself up to this false god 'RNGesus' and panicked, just a little bit. https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.

" I don't think entertaining side activities always reflect that a game is dead or lacking the content to keep players entertained. Some people, like ZiggyD, go out of their way to build on the existing content and entertain the people viewing their streams or what not. |

I'm acknowledging that ZiggyD, for whom I have zero but respect and admiration, has to please a lot more viewers than Sayyadina. Thus while I'm not surprised Mr D has concocted such a hilarious means of making the game 'more' interesting, I fear seeing the word 'disciple' in reference to someone who has struck me as naught but almost agonisingly strong-headed and independent gave me pause.
I trust she is but dabbling in this strange cult. A phase. I hope... https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable. Last edited by Foreverhappychan#4626 on Aug 13, 2014, 12:14:35 AM
