Ball lightning hit frequency

One big thing I am wondering...... Ziggy said that a mob is hit every 200 ms by ball lightning and can not be hit more than that (referring to GMP only maybe?).... however is that per each individual cast (Ball or group of balls if using gmp/lmp) or global to all balls cast by you?

If it is global then you would assume casting ball lightning really fast with big aoe would be pointless for increasing damage (better for increasing aoe obv) since the amount of times it can hit is capped and maxes when it is being hit by one. But it looked pretty powerful when he was stacking them plus he also said that increasing aoe and lowering speed would increase effective dps so I am getting mixed messages from him.

yes, he said that in the video, it's global
But he also said that using slower projectiles and increased aoe would increase effective damage. Implying that the balls damage can overlap. This is what I mean by mixed messages.

If you use Slower Projectiles, any given enemy will be in range of a ball for a longer period of time, meaning that it can be potentially hit more times.

Example - if there is one enemy and you fire one ball, let's say at normal projectile speed the ball is within range of the enemy for 1 second. That means the enemy will be hit 5 times.

If you use slower projectiles and the enemy doesn't move, then the same ball might be in range of that enemy for 1.5 seconds, meaning it can hit 7 or 8 times before going out of range. Thus, higher damage potential.

Yes but you have to think that you can simply cast it more than once to keep an enemy constantly hit. And since you arent wasting gem slots to get more hits out of each ball you can simply use those slots to improve the damage overall getting the best of all worlds.

That is unless the damage of separately casted balls ball can overlap, which is what I suspect because he said he thinks this is the optimal setup.

If it works like spectral throw, individual casts can hit the same enemy at the same time, meaning faster cast speed and slower projectile speed would be very beneficial with this spell.

Ya spectral throw was actually what I was thinking. In a video Chris said they realized shotgunning was too powerful with the skill (just like this one, it used to shotgun before but apparently does not now), yet there is no "global" max for how many times spectral throw can hit per player (individual casts can overlap, especially at the end of their range or if you use slower proj).

I think it was just poor wording when Ziggy said "lightning strikes once every 200 ms and each target can not be hit by a lightning strike more often than this".
I wonder if reduced duration increases the frequency in which the balls zap enemies.

it will have no effect there is no duration.
