Cursed Items

Just an idea for Cursed items.

This topic generally revolves around adding a negative effect. It may or may not coincide with a powerful positive effect.

I'd propose two potential takes on this.

One would be the ability to curse an item, sitting in the implicit slot, but opening up an additional prefix and suffix slot (4 + 4 = 8 affixes + 1 curse.) It's then possible that the act of cursing the item would roll these additional affixes; and likely also that the item would be relatively locked, like corrupted and or mirrored items. (But heck, I wouldn't complain if you could do jewelers and chromatics on one.)

Another, alternate possibility would be just letting curses take up affix slots (prefix/suffix). This would open up the possibility that the curse itself has both beneficial and negative site effects. Another similar concept is that the curse's presence could open up higher tiers of the other affixes. Or for the more sinister approach, the curse could simply be a bad thing that can show up.

Either way, I'd recommend removing any affixes (prefix or suffix) that is considered to be generally trash, and allowing these more interesting curse options to potentially turn an item into gold or vendor trash.


An example of a mixed curse might be an effect that causes life and energy shield loss on active skill use, but increases damage. Another curse might cause you to take damage if you haven't killed/damaged anything for a reasonable duration. Not all curses necessarily need positive effects.

Lol, perhaps another curse could make it so you cannot use any unique items.
