My goal for this character was to make a survivable, CHEAP summoner that doesn't use snapshotting and includes almost every summoner skill.
Does this build have good survivability?
90% of the time you are completely surrounded by minions, you should have around 4k life, a decent amount of armour, maxed out resists including chaos resists and + to max resists. I think that it has above average survivability compared to many other builds.
why not use snapshotting?
Because ggg are removing snapshotting, and this build doesnt need it at all. Im not sure if montreguls is considered snapshotting or not but the build functions virtually the same without it.
Is it cheap?
this may be the cheapest build ever! check out the mountain ledge map below, the required items are the cheapest you can get, three of the items I used are worth 1-2c, the 5L chest and defensive gloves and shield are the only expensive bits, but they should all be under 20c
skill tree progression
I chose to level with flame blast and searing bond till I got to level 60, animate weapon works nicely for leveling also, more as a distraction than anything, but these little guys do damage too :)

Raise Zombie (quality is better but pricey) minion life x3 multistrike x2 melee splash x2 increased duration reduced duration vaal summon skeletons leap slam convocation faster casting x4 raise spectre dominating blow animate weapon sprectre damage gem, depends on what spectres you use. I use conc effect gem spell totem summon raging spirit animate gaurdian minion/totem elemental resistance desecrate flesh offering reduced mana vaal clarity I havn't tested vaal haste but I hear its fairly common among summoners, probably a good idea to get a discipline gem also
Gear
5L6S chest piece , you need every socket you can get, I spent 20c for my chest example: Armour based gloves and boots, prices vary, I like the vaal carress gloves for the +2 to vaal summon skellies and the bones of ullr boots for the +1 spectres, but in a hardcore league you need to prioritize your defences. I was lucky to get a pair of corrupted bones of ullr with +2 to vaal gems. BrightBeak, the attack speed makes moving around with leap slam fast and the resistances are nice too, its also cheap as fk, shouldnt spend more than 1c for one of these. Helmet- I use geofri helmet because it has decent stats and was easy to roll 4 blue slots on it, this is why I chose it over skullhead. A nice +2 minion helm would probably be better, but also expensive. I traded for my geofri helmet but iv seen then go from 20c to 1.5ex. note:this item is not necessary for the build, if you cant get it right away, dont worry about it too much. sidhebreath amulet, costs about 1c for an uncorrupted one, theres a good chance one will drop for you some time also, players with more money should look for one corrupted with added minion damage. Everything else: just try to get as much life, resists and armour on the rest of your gear. When I first switched to summoning I used three brightbeaks just for resists(two in off hand). It shouldn't be too hard to max out your resists and get a decent amount of chaos resists or even max out your chaos resistance.
Luxuries
everything in here is not necessary for the build, but are nice to have
look for a corrupted bones of ullr with colors you can work with and a decent corruption mod, I picked these up for 6c but I think they are worth much more This will run you around 4 exalted, you put it in your off hand, summon half your zombies, then switch to your main hand and summon the rest. This isn't really snapshotting in my eyes since your not going to town and swapping around gear and gems. This item makes the build a little bit more static as you can no longer switch your weapon sets to save your animated gaurdian unless your okay with losing your stronger zombies. but if your animated gaurdian is dying, your zombies probably are also. I picked up mine for 26c but will probably run you closer to 30c depending on the rolls I bought one of these for 1.5ex and the other for 1c, so im not really sure what they go for. They work slightly better than regular mana flasks for this build. except in 50% slower regen maps, then they are your best friend.

5L chest:
Dominating Blow
because who doesnt like having an army of minions? This skill has a ridiculous mana cost, but is definitely worth it. Because of this you probably wont be running any auras, but dont worry, your army more than compensates for that. So far the most enimies I've had converted at one time is 52, but the average seems to be around 20-25 enimies at one time. I suspect this number will increase to around 30-35 once dominating blow and increased duration are level 20
Animate Weapon
I originally planned on using this more, but dominating blow keeps you pretty occupied most of the time. Animate weapon comes in handy when your fighting bosses or just feel like taking a break from being on the front lines converting enimies. At most I usually have 5-10 weapons at a time just because im more focused with dominating blow. Although you have less animated weapons it seems like they do more damage, but I have absolutely no proof for this.
Zombies
4L on gloves
minion life to keep the zombies alive longer, most of the time doing maps I dont lose many, one or two maybe, just summon a new one in map, aint no snapshotting here. on the off chance that your down to 4 zombies or less swap weapon sets if they arnt all large zombies and resummon all 8, doesnt take very long.
Spectres
4L on helmet
the spectres you choose are up to you, I like the evangelists because they almost never die and probably save the lives of some of your other minions also. There are alot of other spectres I want to try so this section may get revisited in the future.
Animate Gaurdian
when you first start summoning you dont really want to use expensive items on this guy, or even use him at all. leercast and dying breath are the two items you will use every time. what will differ is the body armour, boots and gloves you animate.

as you accumulate excess currency you can start dropping more and more on gear for this guy, I plan on testing a gaurdian that uses evasion gear, what I have so far:
Utility
this will be in the open socket in your 5L chest this will be one of your most common skills, usually you will be using it right after you leap slam or if you want to focus your mob on one group of enemies. In vary rare cases you can use it to get your minions away from certain invaders. you usually only have time to use this when you are fighting a boss, other times dominating blow and animate weapon take up too much of your time I pretty much never use this skill unless I am summoning spectres, the only reason I dont have this in my offhand weapon set is that getting 3 blue slots on a brightbeak is not fun.
Auras
since Im not using auras at the moment I dont have much to say about them, I plan on using discipline, I will update this section when I start using auras.
note: the reason I dont use auras is that dominating blow costs alot of mana and reserving it would just mean me using my mana post more often
vaal summon skeletons
I have vaal summon skeletons in my corrupted ullr boots with some other auras, I just use these guys on invaders and bosses, and have never had a problem with a map boss and theres only one invader that comes to mind that my minions have a hard time with
summon raging spirit totem
only use this if you are not using montreguls grasp, put this on your offhand weapon. I found I only even used this when fighting a boss, and it was really hard to see if they were doing any damage, they would probably work better in a dual totem build than this one.

normal setup
main hand weapons: offhand weapons: when fighting bosses switch to your offhand, desecrate if you have to and use your flesh offering, then switch back to get your animate guardian back out, or if it is too dangerous for your gaurdian just stay on your offhand set and summon a raging spirit totem.
montreguls setup
the difference is the position of the skills in the weapons
main weapons: backhand weapons: your backhand weapons are almost never used except when summoning zombies, I will move desecrate here also once I chrome BBB on my brightbeak and swap in faster casting.
