ReverendBizzarre: ele cleave templar [6k life, 45k+ dps]

Heyo, im the creator of the elemental cleave builds, this started way back in closed beta when i made my shadow, Wytchfindergeneral, a character that had 10k es and 250k tooltip cleave dps, you can see a video of that character in my signature.

After open beta was released this character was extremely nerfed so i had to remake the whole cleave build and had to go life, so i chose the templar because its the best possible starting point for ele builds. After i started this character a few streamers noticed me being the only high level melee in open beta that didnt rip every 15 seconds and it triggered quite a fad which still lingers

I am at level 89 with 6k life and almost 30k tooltip on cleave(which in reality is around 45k because of shock), using 2 hyaons fury because they are a lot cheaper than most 300 elemental dps swords, unfotunately they are slower so you get less dps than you would from rare weapons.

Cosndering on using vaal pact now, the build has no problem against reflect without it but since it doesnt have much life regen it could be worth it, ill update if its worth getting or not in the next few days

Current tree (for level 91):

Complete walkthrough

Example gear:
Spoiler

nothing too expensive, this is generally what you want to aim for, preferably youd also want movespeed on boots.

Bandit rewards:
Spoiler
First time take Oak's +40 life

Second time take the reward from kraytin

Skill leveling:
Spoiler
Do not level cleave past level 1, leveling it only increases the mana cost but not the damage since this is an elemental build
Do not level whirling blades or leap slam, depending on your preference of travel, dont level it because mana cost increase and the bonus is just physical damage like cleave, which is useless for this build.

Level the rest to maximum level

Auras:
Spoiler
Use anger and wrath along with purity of lightning, use clarity for a while until you have enough mana regen on gear.

And use a high level clarity instead of anger aura on half regen maps

Cleave Links:
Spoiler
Cleave 4l: Cleave-weapon elemental damage-Life leech-multistrike

Cleave 5l: Cleave-weapon elemental damage-concentrated effect-life leech-multistrike

Cleave 6l: Cleave-weapon elemental damage-multistrike-concentrated effect-Life leech-Faster Attacks

Curses:
Spoiler
Use elemental weakness OR conductivity since the bulk of the damage is lightning, start and continue to use the curse you get your hands on first. Link the curse to reduced mana or curse on hit leapslam/whirling blades.

Totems
Spoiler
Use whatever totem you like best, i used a rejuvenation totem because i happened to get my hands on a 20% quality one, but you can use a spell totem linked to summon skeletons, a decoy totem, devouring totem, do whatever you like.

Gearing
Spoiler

If you want, you can choose to run a lightning coil, it think it is best in slot for this build because you are not able to get much physical damage reduction through armor on the tree or gear, so wearing a lightning coil helps a lot, it also goes very well with this build because you have to get a lot of lightning resistance to combat reflect.

This part is pretty obvious i think, just use armor/es stuff with life and resistances.

The weapons have to be fast and with good elemental rolls.

As rings and amulets they should have life, elemental damage, mana and mana regen with resistances if needed.

Belts, this is the place where you want some elemental damage % mod, try to get life and resistance on them too.

As weapons go use Axes or Swords with hgih attack speed and high elemental damage, nothing too fancy, you'll do big damage with almost anything that has some decent mods on it

Flasks
Spoiler
Use: 2 Seething life flasks
1 bubbling life flask
1 granite flask of iron skin
1 quicksilver

Video:
Spoiler

Havent recorded anything since patch, but it clears a lot faster than the OB build and it can do 78 maps without problems, especially because it has pretty huge damage reduction (lightning coil and high light rez lets you tank 78 dominus slam on flask)

very old and shitty quality videos from a long time ago
Spoiler
Level 67 map High dps gearhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edpRhlO18KY&feature=youtu.be

level 67 map tankier gear:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nSfKSAzonW0&feature=youtu.be

Old build, no unwavering stance or static blows: Half regen precint with some other mods, using clarity instead of anger(less dps than normal):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8WtYVH9bAg&feature=youtu.be

Post any questions you have or your current status on this build in this thread so i can respond to them easily and quickly. If you have any videos of your ele cleaver doing maps that you want to share just post them here and i'll add them to the video section with your name stapled to them.

I will happily respond

PS: This build also works great with Rain of Arrows, just replace cleave with the RoA and multistrike with increased area, youre going to do quite amazing dps with it.

Well, like i thought in the another thread, mine is very similar.

Few thoughts i have regarding the differences of our builds:

Inner force: anger and wrath double their effect with cleave, so also inner force gets doubled. So 30% increase to auras goes up to 60% increase. The dps boost is awesome.

Soul siphon: One of the really awesome things with cleave is the mana cost. 21 mana with 5 link for an aoe attack. Pretty much 1-3 shot mobs (now in merciless act3) and with soul siphon i get 25 mana back for each killed enemy. No need for mana leech gem --> could use culling strike for more dps or IIQ/IIR or life leech for added defences.
I happened to get +12 mana from kills on my gear (which i rather changed into something more useful) so not running out of mana that easily. For bosses i use instant mana flask, that fills my mana completely every use.

Both of these are ofcourse increases to dps, which aren´t that necessary for this build because the dps is nice to begin with. Also travelled to the starting area of shadow for +24% att.speed and some life.

Gear: This build is really flexible with gear.
My main goal is to get as much flat elemental mods on rings, amulet and gloves. This is because the flat elemenetal values get doubled to cleave.

On weapons i intend to get %weapon elemental and att.speed mods and on top of that 1-2 flat ele mods (could be crafted "easily" with regals). This is because as far as i know, the %weapon elemental damage on weapons also apply to the other weapons damage, the flat ele values do not.

Chest, boots and helm can be purely defensive (unless i get my hands on wakes too). I use ES gear with +life rolls on them. So far not very lucky with gear drops. (2,1k life and 900 ES)

But yeah. Pretty solid build =)

When would you suggest switching from the 2h/sweep to cleave as a main ability? Somewhere in the 20-40 range?

yes, thats about when you have enough points to spec into a bit of dexterity so you can wield whatever swords or axes come your way, you can also use a jade amulet if you dont have enough dex.

have you considered going marauder tree because it is easy to access diamond skin and trolls blood.in my opinion it is not worth going in mid tree hp regen nodes

what you think about blood magic you could drop mana leech gem then.

I would still need to go to the middle of the tree for the elemental damage and life there, and getting celestial walker would be too many points also.

With bloodmagic i couldnt use auras such as purity or vitality when they are needed because reserving a % of your life is a bad idea, also the mana reservation of auras is pretty high now so i would lose a nasty amount of life.

Yeah. Cleave can be a bid deceptive with its hit chance.

I had 75% hit chance, but i didn´t mind it because missing wasn´t an issue.

Cleave actually misses if both hits miss, so with 75% chance to hit, the actual chance to miss is only 25%^2=6,25%

But only hitting with one of the weapons really lowers the dps way more than i thought.

Really nice to have your build as a reference point. They are similar, but yet different.

"I only use cleave, no reason for me to use a single target attack since i dont have the links nor will i do more dps."

So it's not possible to get Dual Strike to do better? (I'm pretty new to the game)
