how work? "Block chance applied to spell"?

i saw item with "50% Block chance applied to spell"
can anybody tell me what the function of this passive? |

Normally you can only block Attacks. That passive allows you to block Spells as well, though with a lower chance.
So if I wear a shield with 24% block chance, I would only have a 12% chance to block Spells. |
