Golgathors GroundSlam/BloodRage build Updated 1.2

Hi,

wanted to share some thoughts on my adaptation of a groundslam build.

Update: Patch 1.1 had a lot of negativ impact on this build, screwing up starting area and the desasterous change to life leech need to be adressed. You have to decide compared to before if you want to keep life or have reduced damage or lose health and lose life. I hate being forced to decide between crap and bullcrap but decided for life.


Update: Patch 1.2 made it even worse. Even less health, fat loss of damage, fat loss of +max resistances in the starting area and the 2% elementaladaptation is lost entirely. Three things are not so bad : Masterof the Arena, Bloody bludgeon nodes and that they integrated the 2% life leech into the +life on hit nodes to give them a reason to be taken. Nevertheless values are still too low. Anyway leech is still nerfed, so you need it. Destroyer node still not worth taking as well as Executioneer. Nice Ideas but not well done: Martial Experience / Combat Stamina. Still Templartree access is bad due to the bad faith and steel/Catalyse nodes. All in all got FAR worse for Marauder. The only thing by far what is cool : Battle Rouse. But since survivability is nerfed dramatically this is only a sidenote and a anyway needed attunement for the crappy, untested and foolishly implemented leech nerf.

What I did not like about those is the usage of blood magic. I mean, we are always at the pulse of battle, every single life point is valuable, or?

Actually I came to this build via levelling a witch, where I noticed that for this mana % life leech was needed and I thought that is a big advantage and how we can make the most use out of it.

Some stats from my char:


lvl 81
~4120 Life
~ 14100 DPS Heavy strike
~ 10500 DPS Ground slam


mana leech 2% ( + 3% from warlords mark ) = 5%
life leech 9% ( + 7% from warlords mark + 5% from blood Rage) = 21%

Attack Speed +30% ( + 15% from 3x Frenzy )

100% Rarity

So basic idea is to have a strong weapon, pile up life leech and some mana leech, support it with Hatred Aura and Blood Rage.

Actually it is a shame that you have lost access to at least +8% life nodes, those 6& ones are really crappy.

- Nodes less than 8% life are not worth taking
- Nodes less than 12% damage are notworth taking

Resistances:
1) You will mention that I aimed for a 0% of Resistance for chaos ( ended up in 8%), this makes me together with high life regeneration have the negative aspect of blood rage bearable ( and be viable in Spider Maps and to surprises of those evil Exiles like Ion Darkshroud, I hate him!)
2) I also wanted ( despite of e.g. newbee build) to use as few resistance nodes as possible to maximize life/armor/offensive usage by at the same time having 69+ in all elemental resistances ( you can expect to have always 2 endurance charges on this wil max out resist to 77%).


Skills:
1) For mass enemies :
Ground Slam + Physical Damage + Added Fire Damage + Multistrike + Faster Attacks ( powered by Hatred ) : 2100 pDamage + 800 Fire Damage + 780 Cold Damage

2) For single target :
Heavy Strike * + Physical Damage + Added Fire Damage + Faster Attacks ( powered by Hatred )
6000 pDamage + 2300 Fire Damage + 2250 Cold Damage
Note: Dont use Multistrike instead of Faster Attacks! Reason is simple: Multistrike choses the target for the additional targets randomly! So if you have to kill one specific mob out of a group ( e.g. killing the rare mob with makes his allies not to die)
3) Mobility :
Leap Slam + Concentrated Effect ( To get more damage on spot, large groups anyway die like nothing ) --> max 3800 pDmage, max 1300 Cold damage
4) Triggers:
a) I chose to go for a higher CodT level to have a more Armour version from Molten Shell. With lvl 15 CodT you can go for lvl 16 MS with 822 Armor what is a lot.
b) For Frenzy it is no problem to trigger less often since anyway it is refreshed per kill.


Actually you dont need a 6L item here, with the 6th slot, there are multiple options:
1) Push Fire damage wirh fire penetration
2) Add even more life leech ( what makes you more flexible in choice of ring/amulet/weapon/gloves)
3) Blind for more crowd control


Also cold damage is pushed even more by cold penetration!

Curses:
1) Warlords Mark: Actually due to the change of life leech I went away from this. Reason is the new leech mchanics, simply makes no sense to curse all if you leech only from one.
2) Vulnerability: This is my new standard curse.
a) 25% damage flat is best, this increases
I) cold damage from hatred
II) fire damage from "Added Fire Damage" Gem,
III) for sure more physical damage ( and since melee penetration is not linear but like a rising curve, more damage results in even more rise!) a
IV) and for sure with same amount of life leech % more damage results in more absolute # of life leeched
3) Enfeeble: Best for Boss Fights with heavy melee damage


Key to this build is a hammer with 450+ physical damage. Ignore all elemental damage!
You can get one for a hand full of chaos. Also chose max damage over DPS ( fast hammer), since attackspeed comes over skills. Id you manage to have a 12+ % attackspeed you can exchange the Berserkering Node and go instead of this towards Sentinel, or Leather and Steel, or the upper Endurance Charge in Templar Tree

Also nice item is the Wurm's Molt belt, which is made for that build ( and also this you can get for 1-3 chaos). But what you need is only 2% Mana Leech in case of not cursable enemies, this you can also get from a ring/amulet. But normally these are more expensive.

For Bossfights:

1) Drop the rejuvenation totem ( for decoy cases but also for sure for life)
2) For enemies with high melee damage ( like incinerator Tunneltrap) you can exchange Hatred with Determination Aura ( see http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Map_Bosses)
3) Use Enfeeble as a Curse for enemies from 2)

What helps for this build:
1) 2x Reduced mana gem, will sooth mana usage and make it also viable in maps where you have less mana regeneration. For this purpose also I skilled Mana Flows in Duellist tree.
2) Assemble gear with resistance and life, for the last 2-3 items ( normally amulet/rings) then calculate what you need and aim for those items on the market. I got mine for 3-5 C each ( but only because I wanted Rarity on them, otherwise would be even cheaper and with +STR on them!).

What do you think about this build? Any remarks or recommendations? Am also not 100% finished with it.


Upgradepossibilities:


Alternate skill tree to be used with Marohi Erqi and Conctrated Effect Gem.
I would only recommend this with a 6L since Marohi is significantly slow ( 0.85 Attackspeed).

Why Marohi then if it is so slow?
The best damage booster you can get is Concentrated Effect since it gives the desired more modifier. This works multipicative instead of the general increased which is only additive.

Also this brings a nice advantage: For maps where you can manage easily you can exchange due to same color the Concentratde Effect Gem with Rarity Gem!

HS: ~17500 DPS
GS: ~23000 DPS

I want to boost the HEAVY Strike with a % gem also so it is faster to boost DPS.
The Fire Penetration Gem I put there since also this works with a multiplier instead of working additive. But I am not finally happy with it, but by today dont see any better option ( + Chaos Damage/Cold Damage/Lightning Damage is flat, and since as a melee we don't skill elementaldamage doesnt pay off)

Upgradepossibilities ( Gem + Quality)

Bloodrage ( gives you + leech, fat!)
Heavy Strike ( gives more Attackspeed, up to 15%, thats huge!)
Concentrated Effect ( % gives you reduced mana usage. Sounds undesirable but is actually best you can get, since sustaining a 6L mana consumption is massive! Without % my GS is 142 mana per Strike, with % only 122!)

Faster Attacks ( gives max +10% Attackspeed, ok)

Added Melee Physical Damage ( low, not worth it)
Added Fire Damage ( low, not worth it)
Ground Slam ( increased Stun, not really desirable)

Since the upgraded mana cost of the 6l, i had to adopt the skilltree a little.

well i was wondering about this build but i see great deals in increased are of effect from templar and iron reflex

why didn't you go for them? or is it just not worth it (at least templar part) ?

also how is the chos dmg on bloodrage? u said you were aiming for 0% chaos resist but ended up having 8 so isn't more chaos resist better for you since you take around 4% chaos dmg per second?
About your 100 point tree.

1. There's a wasted 10 str node near Resolute Technique, leading nowhere. Another one at lower Marauder start. Can remove both of them.
2. Don't know if I would spend two points at the Duelist Endurance Charge to get to Diamond Flesh, +10 str and EC duration instead of just +10 str (connecting via the life nodes).
3. Do you really need US? 3 points is quite an investment.
4. Not a huge fan of entering the Duelist zone via the armor nodes. I know the Enforcer-Twohanded nodes also aren't too great, but I think I'd prefer them.
5. I'd drop the whole upper part of the marauder skilltree, those 10% damage nodes aren't too great.
6. If you take "Blunt Instrument" from bottom not top, you save another skillpoint as you can drop a +10 str node.

Just 1., 2. and 6.: 3 skillpoints saved
1., 2., 5. and 6.: click me
I traded 40% increased damage for 2 more free skillpoints, fire resist and +1 max fire, if you want to get some damage back, Executioner gets you 12% for one point, and next to "Baptism by light" you get 10% damage/10% armor and 12% mace damage.

Update for 1.2

The new skilltree is absolute bullshit.
Less damage, loss of 2% to all max resi, less life, and finally loss of 1% life reg makes this built obsolete. And with this my affinity to the game.

Honestly I think it's more of a "learn to play" issue here.

You keep whining about life leech while this isn't even an issue.

You keep crying about low life and low damage, while I saw a streamer on Beyond League with absolute SHITgear doing INSANE damage with Groundslam while having 6K life (again, with absolute SHITgear).
