What am I doing wrong with "Power Charge On Critical" support gem ?

Hi,

I have a witch, using Arc linked with the Power Charge On Critical support gem.
I have some chance of critical strike, not much, maybe around 5%.

However, even after dozens of kills, I have never seen any charge appearing on my witch.

Why isn't it working, what did I miss ?

PCoC works on crit, not on kill like power siphon.
Your base crit is too low. With only 5% you will crit on every twentieth hit. Furthermore PCoC only gives a CHANCE to aquire a charge on crit. Ranging between 30% and 50% that means you get a charge only every 40th - 65th hit.
To have PCoC a significant effect you need to improve your base crit by taking some cc passives in the tree and/or by linking an increased critical strikes gem.

Thank you for your answer, but I have tested it again, and after 30mn of gameplay, not a single charge has appeared. There must be another thing that I've missed... ?

Your crit chance just way too low. Try Ice spear + GMP/LMP + Power charge on critical - this combination can easily generate power charges even without critical passives/gear

This isn't entirely true, but the right idea. 5% chance to crit does not guarantee 1 crit every 20 attacks. Each attack is calculated on its own. With that low of a crit chance, you could see 0 crits in hundreds of attacks. Along with the fact that Power Charge on Crit is also only a chance to grant a Power Charge when you finally do crit, you are not likely to see many Power Charges at all.

Andrey has some pretty solid advice though, if you are trying to generate charges without a lot of crit chance. Ice Spear's second form has 600% increased crit chance. Ice Spear's Base crit chance is 7%, so 7+7*6=49% chance to crit. However, I don't think Lesser or Greater Multiple Projectiles would make a difference unless you have Voll's Protector. In which case, you wouldn't be using Power Charge on Crit. As far as I know, the skill either crits or it doesn't (unless this has been changed). Basically, you would only get one chance at a Power Charge per cast. Whereas, with Voll's Protector, you get a guaranteed Power Charge for every enemy hit with a critical strike. Either way, the skill has 49% chance to crit enemies at a distance. That's much better than 5%. It take a few casts to get a charge still, but you'll definitely see a difference.

I am using power charge on critical very effectively.

one more important thing!
are you using totem?
if so then totems don't trigger power charges, you have to trigger them yourself while casting (ice spear for example)separately from the totem, even if you don't do dsmage.
