The rich get richer, the poor get screwed
" I hate to say it, but it's true. This is the one thing weighing this game down for me right now. It's not the desync; it's the trading to get what you can't make due to drops and their particular form of RNG. -VG- Invited to Beta 2012-03-18 / Supporter since 2012-04-08

I heard on release they were going to rename PoE to Path of Economics. :D
Crafting doesn't exist in POE. Gambling does...and the house always wins.
Velocireptile - I LOL'ed. Which made me fart. I wish the office were empty right now :( Hardlicker - I had to push the dog out of the way so I could get to the sexy quilt. |

" Yes, there is a large difference. I know how ranks work on Sc2. " This is gloating. Also, your math is wrong. A cursory look at sc2ranks lists just under 3000 masters league players in the USA, and 200 GM players. 200 is a significant chunk of 3000. " I know this, and didn't even bring up team ladder. " Kudos to you for your dedication to succeeding in a game! No, I'm not being sarcastic, I think it is great when someone sets out to achieve something and has fun along the way to succeeding. You don't happen to drive a dark green Ferrari do you? (If that doesn't mean anything to you, then never mind, it's an honest question. If the answer is yes, I will keep mum as to why I asked unless you say otherwise). PoE Origins - Piety's story http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2081910

I have enjoyed reading through this thread.
I like to be able to trade in games. It can be fun. It's really kind of annoying in PoE. I *think* folks have gotten disheartened and turn off trade chat altogether as I find it extremely difficult to trade rather nice stuff. I keep holding onto the memory of a mention of an online trading system.......Boy, that'll be nice. However, the reason for my response here is simple. The rich can't get richer while the poor get screwed in this game. Eventually these 'rich' folks would be trying to charge more than it would cost to craft a BIS item. The exception to this is something irreplaceable/non-reproduceable like a pre-nerf Kaom's (assuming you consider this BIS). As for the argument of currency sink and how that effects people who play the game versus the people who trade all day (or never map)... It doesn't take more currency to map than you make in a map. You have to have a big enough base (of maps) when you start, to avoid the RNG issue some folks have. If you want a challenge you alch the map and run it no matter what the mods turn up. Playing self-found would make it very difficult/impossible to chisel every map, but you don't need to. It is true that some maps will roll low quantity and that might cause you to scour/alch in some cases. You can literally set yourself up to manufacture alchs at an alarming rate. Scours are more difficult to obtain, but you never have to use them and you absolutely will loot some. You can also manufacture chaos at a good clip if you prefer that route. If you are playing self-found and find maps to be a huge drain on your currency, then I am assuming you are quite picky with what mods you will run. This seems to defeat the 'looking for a challenge' argument. Ok..I think I wrote just about way too much there...... |

" In my opinion "freedom of choice" is overrated. The fundamental idea of the game is to progress your character. To accomplish this, there are different ways. However, there are ways which are more efficient. As a result, the more obvious a choice is, the less freedome you actually have. If trading is >>> then selffound and playing in groops is >>> then solo, your actually choice is heavily influenced by circumstances. I think people actualyl do no chose, but adjust to certain circumstances. As a result the game might become less enjoyable, because your choices are getting more and more obvious. If there is a lighting skill A which does 1000 DPS AOE which hits all enemies on screen and another lighting skill B which does 800DPS single target, you can not talk about "the player can make their own builds, because they can chose between skill A and B" Thats just nonsense. The people would be victims of the circumstances and >HAVE TO< chose Skill A because its obviously better for achiving, the overall objective of the game. Even if Skill B looked cooler and is more enjoyable to use, the majority would stick to A. This situation would create a "conlict between interests". And a good game has to avoid such a thing at all costs. Currently we have a conflict between "the wish to progress efficiently" and "playing solo/selffound - the wish to achive things on your own". I would call this a heavy game design mistake, but I am no expert, I just try to use common sense. Just saying: "You dont have to play in groops" is ignorant of the fact, that this interferes with another wish/desire of the gamer. |
