Burning Arrow Duelist

NEW VERSION: TEMPLAR

Pre Avatar of Fire, Additional Arrow Version

The Idea

I wanted to make use out of burning arrow, since it is a somehow underused skill. I developed a playsyle which is similar to a burning discharger. However, recent changes to enduring nerfed the reliability of discharge. Burning arrow has the advantage that it works well even if only few enemies are around.

The principle of my build: Go for high physical damage and use conversion on top of the added fire damage of burning arrow to achieve a high fire damage per hit. Chance to ignite and elemental proliferation will turn this skill into an area of effect one. Constant firing guarantees the a high average of the burning damage, because always the highest burning damage is taken.

Progression: Duelist Starting Area into rush to resolute technique. I used lightning arrow for leveling. After reaching the burning damage and being able to use a decent 5L I switched to burning arrow. Lava lash and burning duration is planed for the end game.

Key Items

Since I use point blank I am always in melee range. This enables Chin Sol. Which has on top of the physical damage sweet fire damage. With the additional multiplier no other bow can keep up in terms of damage. Also, the knockback kicks the source of burning damage into other enemies, which is quite nice.

Dual curse is a nice increase in dps.

That quiver is mandatory for conversion.

Skills

The main attack will be:
Burning Arrow - Elemental Proliferation - Chance to Ignite - Weapon Elemental Damage - Increased Burning Damage.

It will not work without a 5L. 6th Link will be Fire Penetration. My 5L currently costs around 30 Mana and has a very low attack speed. Hence, it can be easily ran on mana.

I chose burning damage over added fire because it both will result approximately in the same dps while the quality of burning damage gives additional chance to ignite. Overall (including the curses) is 44%(lvl 20 chance to ignite)+10%(20q burning damage)+25%(lvl 20 burning arrow)+14%(lvl 20 flammability)=93%. This is pretty reliable.

As for auras I use Determination, Grace and Anger.

Curses are Flammability and Elemental Weakness. They are both linked to blood magic.

For utility I used Molten Shell with Increased Duration as well as Enduring Cry. This enables me to go in melee range.

Playstyle

Close combat. I usually dual curse and run into melee range. I aim for the targets with the lowest fire resistance to achieve the highest proliferation burning damage. If the enemies are hard hitter I keep up molten shell and enduring cry.

After 3 shots or so I usually can work around and pick up stuff while watching the world burn.

My Other Gear

Stuff could be better. More % elemental damage as well a life on the rings would be nice.
However, added damage synergizes well with Chin Sol.

Pros and Cons

+ high single target damage
+ super cheap gear
+ comparable (to other builds) Burning Damage for AOE damage
+ reflect is not an issue at all because you'll use a single target and can adjust your damage by standing far from the target.
+ fun to play

- curse Immun / fire res enemies are a pain without a 6L / fire penetration
- requires specific jewellery for high damage

Love it.

I've never even thought of using burning arrow with prolif. Nice one.
Funny, I started theorycrafting the SAME build two days ago, but I am starting as a Templar. Your Dex seems kinda low so you should work on that, here is what mine looks like.

The only problem I can currently think of is sustaining a 50 mana cost in a 6L and survivability because you can only leech from that one enemy you are hitting. Also not sure how good BA on its own would be against bosses.
Low level map bosses die real quick. I use potions to sustain mana and life regen for life. I guess it can be polished somehow, but it works for me so far.

The highest dex you'll need is 212 for Chin Sol. I get that on my gear.

I've been leveling a ranger to go for the same idea, but focusing on crit and crit damage for bigger ignites. Haven't made it high enough level to tell if it's better or not, but crits are fun. :D

I have a LA ranger and I use burning arrow with ranged attack totem for single target dps. I've found it to be quite good for single target/boss fights. So I don't think there is any worry about dps in that regard.
Is Chin Sol definitely better than Lioneye's Glare for this build? I would think not having to go RT would be quite nice.
i want to try this on a ranged attack totem on my next build.

i think im going either witch or marauder, and want to try to use hrimnor's resolve, searing touch, and infernal mantle together. going to try to use incinerate, and i think this burning arrow totem with ele prolif could work really well with it. good luck on your archer
A great idea to try would be Infractem which has innate pierce so you can hit all the
mobs in a room with a single BA.

Overall though seems quite a good setup/build.BA is cleary underused and ele prolif
might be the answer to that.
To crit or not to crit ?
