Volume/Mass based Inventory System
The goal of this suggestion is to remove the tetris style minigame, which arises from the item management in the current box/grid based inventory, not to increase the inventory size or the implications of a limited inventory.
Why? Because it sucks and it's not fun. If I wanted to play tetris, I would play damn tetris. Players encounter the annoyance of this system with a click on the ground, which sends an item magically flying in the air, defying mighty gravity. I often know I have enough boxes free, but the inventory trolls me hard, it feels like a punch in the face. "Better order your sh*t, before I will let you carry all of it!" Yeah, thanks a lot... A volume/mass based inventory removes the tetris, the grid, the boxes, while increasing the gameflow and usability of item management. A good example can be found in Eve Online: http://i.imgur.com/YrfnU.jpg Adapting this to POE would mean: - addition of a capacity bar - converting of item properties ( 1 box = 1kg or 1 volume unit) - untying of item capacity property from item inventory icon, which doesn't require normalization of item icon sizes, scrollable inventory field can be used - removing of x,y values of the item location on the grid in the database, which probably means less stash opening lag (around 2-3s in the last stress test) - all item sorting can be done client side, which allows easy introduction of filters and sorting, searching functions for the stash - default state of the stash could be one big scrollable inventory field in a tab - extra tabs would be just a group of items with the same customisable tag/label, eg. 'for sale' 'for low lvl twinks' 'rares for 2 name trading', all would detract from the same stash capacity - instead of buying stash tabs, players buy stash capacity, this allows for stash capacity packs eg. 100 for 5€ and 200 kg/vu for 9€ - usability horror with 20 and more bought extra stash tabs would end, I find this very important, currently after a certain number of extra stash tabs every additional one decreases your enjoyment of this spent money - allows the additions of alternative inventory views, eg list with details I probably forgot something, but thanks for reading. This could work, it wouldn't mess with the number of orbs you would get per town portal scroll and could have all the nice features described.
