Looting -- The official thread for discussing the loot system. Updated 18th March, 2013.
I say instanced loot is garbage.
Let me explain. I'm the kind of person that likes to play with anyone. Friend are first, but if none are available at the time I'll play with anyone. I prefer to play with peaple that are new to a game so that I can introduce them to all the details and what not. Because of that, I dislike instanced loot. The most prominent reason for that is that i like to say "hey, look at that, don't you need that" or "see this is what you should be looking for" or "omg I'm so jellous, why you always get the good stuff". all that gets eliminated as soon as you don't see the same loot as every one else. |

" Eh it could use longer timers for bosses. |

Clearly the best solution is to have players able to choose which loot they want based on the group/party/public/friends.
Free for all, short time, or individual loots, and others, can even get creative, round robin, etc... Maybe even have groups vote when being formed, or have the leader or group work out which method they prefer for that group so we could try out different ways. this way everyone is happy, everyone gets what they want, and it's all win. /thread |

It is not best solution.
Sorry. Sometimes, you won't get what you want, sometimes you will. Even having this as an option hurts the meta game. Also, just because many people who prefer Instanced don't know this. You are aware you will get less loot with an instanced option compared to solo. If all you care about is loot, you will get less in an instanced setting. " its been said a million times and solves the problem, i can only assume the coding would be difficult or expensive for it not to have been implemented already. Even though ggg have said they prefer ffa, this is one of the longest threads and there have probably been more posts on loot drop mechanism specifically than anything else. I dont mind pure ffa actually, so long as rules are established. I mainly play in endgame stuff where we have our own rules, maps to map openers and own-name loot; this is prevalent in public and private map parties endgame. If something drops we are unsure of we randomly assign it............which is basically own-name and the most popular loot mechanism on default. |

With 1000-2000 acounts online I just see perhaps max 2-3 public parties on the noticeboard. I wonder what is dicouraging players to group up...

I’m really hoping that GGG has loot changes included in V1.0: That would be a very welcome OB surprise.

The only change that might be needed is taking away the timers entirely.
Any "options" otherwise = choices someone can make to restrict other players. ... I have played public games almost entirely since I started PoE, and now my friends list is big enough where I don’t need pubs. However, we do open up groups to public sometimes, other times we invite people who are looking for a group in global chat by request. Some people I run with don’t pick up anything until the fight is over - others will grab everything of value and not care about who needs what, so what! I loot fast with one guy and take my time with the other. They have the choice of partying with me or not. If I am in a group and someone is a jerk, I can be mean, I can try and take crap that is theirs or get the other players to do the same. However, if they are nice, leave something on the ground that is valuable when they don’t know who it fell for or whatever, (like I do) I will offer to friend list them. Politeness does get people invited to good groups time and again. There are some people I group with who try to take everything valuable, but they also bring their own high level maps! so good for them! I'm happy to let them grab some of my loot if they are hosting a kickass party that is getting me a pile of XP – I’m just happy to be invited. Please do not take away players freedom to decide on their own how to behave. It’s one of the best things this game has going for it. /edit spelling |

" That is your opinion. I don't see why you try to pass it off like fact. " I don't see how anyone can prove this. The meta game is obviously hurt right now with so much of the player base playing single player only or mostly single player. " An infinite timer in my opinion is essentially an instanced system and I don't see how that would be less loot. But even if it is I would much prefer to play on that. Standard Forever

" Freedom of choice would be there with more options. There is less freedom right now. Either people put up with FFA in one way or another or they play solo. I don't see a lot of freedom there and apparently neither do the other players who are now asking for something else.
